Exhibitor Relations then followed Singer’s tweet up by confirming its release date from Fox, which is set for May 27th, 2016.
That currently puts it in direct competition with Disney and James Bobin’s Alice in Wonderland sequel, tentatively titled Alice in Wonderland: Into the Looking Glass. Tim Burton’s 2010 original took more than a billion dollars around the globe, and it would be incredibly interesting if these two blockbuster titans do end up fighting it out on their opening weekends.
Beyond the title, everything else remains speculation, and no doubt a lot of it will remain so at least until Days of Future Past has been released, which is due out two years earlier at the end of May 2014.
For now, fans of the franchise can sleep sound in the knowledge that Fox isn’t going anywhere, and if Singer is the one to announce the news first, then it’s quite possible that he’ll be returning to the helm once more, as he did with X2.
