White-House-Down-PosterRoland Emmerich’s return to blockbuster territory this year is shaping up to be one of the best movies of the summer, with Channing Tatum and Jamie Foxx leading the charge in White House Down.

The action-blockbuster sees Foxx star as the US President and Tatum as his protector, and we’ve seen plenty to persuade us that this is going to be a lot of fun. Sony have released a great new featurette for the movie, going behind the scenes on construction of ‘The Beast’, the limo-cum-tank designed to protect the President. The featurette notes that, unlike most films, all they had to go on when designing the vehicle were exterior photos, with the Secret Service naturally keeping quiet on the specifics of the limo. The White House Down crew started with a single headlight, and worked their way up from there.

In Columbia Pictures’ White House Down, Capitol Policeman John Cale (Channing Tatum) has just been denied his dream job with the Secret Service of protecting President James Sawyer (Jamie Foxx). Not wanting to let down his little girl with the news, he takes her on a tour of the White House, when the complex is overtaken by a heavily armed paramilitary group. Now, with the nation’s government falling into chaos and time running out, it’s up to Cale to save the president, his daughter, and the country.

Maggie Gyllenhaal completes the leading trio brilliantly, and the three star alongside an excellent cast, headed up by Jason Clarke, James Woods, Richard Jenkins, Jake Weber, Lance Reddick, and Joey King.

Emmerich is directing from a script by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, The Amazing Spider-Man).

White House Down will be hitting US theatres at the end of the month on June 28th, and has its UK release date set for a few months later on 6th September. And after you’ve watched the featurette, you can head over to ‘Tweet the Beast’, which is a great little feature that allows you to command the vehicle itself.
