LEGO Movie

Despite the fact that it isn’t even out yet, Warner Bros. are clearly confident that The LEGO Movie will be a big success for them as they’ve hired Jared Stern to write a sequel. He’s best known for penning The Internship, The Watch, and Mr. Popper’s Penguins. However, before you start wondering why the studio would choose a writer with such a varied résumé, Stern is credited with adding story material to the likes of Bolt and Wreck-it Ralph. Also working on the script is Girl Most Likely’s Michelle Morgan.

Tracking currently indicates that The LEGO Movie will open with upwards of million in the US this weekend, easily taking the top spot and holding off competition from The Monuments Men and Vampire Academy. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote the first movie, and Stern’s involvement stems from the fact that he is part of Warner Bros.’ creative consortium of writers and directors whose aim is to foster new animated projects.

Will Lord and Miller return to direct? The Wrap mentions nothing about that in their report, although it does seem likely that the movie is being written now in order for them to start work on the project once they’ve finished promoting 22 Jump Street.

The LEGO Movie opens in US cinemas on February 7th and February 14th in the UK.
