Spring-Breakers-Teaser-PosterHarmony Korine’s Spring Breakers gave us a great new international poster earlier in the week, giving us a look at the leading quintet front and centre.

At the time, we weren’t sure exactly when we could expect it to hit the big screen, but now its US release date has officially been confirmed, and a new teaser poster for the States released.

Vulture report that the film will be hitting theatres on 22nd March, which will see it going head-to-head with DreamWorks’ The Croods and Antoine Fuqua’s Olympus Has Fallen. Three very different films, with fairly different target audiences, and here’s to hoping that all will do well that opening weekend.

“Brit, Candy, Cotty, and Faith have been best friends since grade school. They live together in a boring college dorm and are hungry for adventure. All they have to do is save enough money for spring break to get their shot at having some real fun. A serendipitous encounter with rapper “Alien” promises to provide the girls with all the thrill and excitement they could hope for. With the encouragement of their new friend, it soon becomes unclear how far the girls are willing to go to experience a spring break they will never forget.”

Selena Gomez, Vanessa Hudgens, Ashley Benson, and Rachel Korine star as the young and impressionable leading females, with James Franco starring as Alien, the lead male, and Glee’s Heather Morrison completing the cast nicely.

Korine is once more directing from his own script, with Skrillex and Cliff Martinez (Contagion, Drive) composing the score.

The film has been receiving slightly mixed reviews on the festival circuit – you can read our review from TIFF here. I saw it out in Toronto last year and thought it was great; not my favourite film of the festival (that honour goes to Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing), but definitely worth seeking out.

Its reception has been fairly universally clear on one thing, though: This is going to have people talking this spring. And it’s all but guaranteed to become a cult classic. Selena Gomez and Vanessa Hudgens step out of their Disney/High School Musical image, with Hudgens especially showing a side to her we’ve never seen before.

Spring Breakers is now set for release in the US on 22nd March. Still no word yet on when we can expect it to land in the UK, but here’s to hoping it will be around the same time. For now, here’s the new teaser poster, and I’d imagine that we’ve got plenty more coming our way soon.
