Little Miss Sunshine co-directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris return behind the camera this year with Ruby Sparks, a charming romantic comedy starring the rising young actress Zoe Kazan and Paul Dano.
The film was released in the US over the summer, where it was wonderfully received, and now it comes to our shores in the UK today.
“Calvin (Paul Dano) is a young novelist who achieved phenomenal success early in his career but is now struggling with his writing – as well as his romantic life. Finally, he makes a breakthrough and creates a character named Ruby who inspires him. When Calvin finds Ruby (Zoe Kazan), in the flesh, sitting on his couch about a week later, he is completely flabbergasted that his words have turned into a living, breathing person.”
Dayton and Faris are directing from a script that the young star, Kazan, has penned, making her feature debut as a writer, with Alia Shawkat (Arrested Development), Annette Bening (American Beauty), Steve Coogan (a.k.a. Alan Partridge), and Antonio Banderas (The Skin I Live In) completing the cast nicely.
Ruby Sparks will be heading into UK theatres today, 12th October, with the DVD/Blu-ray set to be released in the US at the end of the month on 30th October. For now, here’s the new UK TV spot to give you a taste of what we have to look forward to. Enjoy.
