A few weeks ago, we saw four beautiful new images of Keira Knightley, Jude Law, and Aaron Johnson in Joe Wright’s upcoming adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s Anna Karenina.
With a script coming from Oscar-winning writer Tom Stoppard (Shakespeare in Love), and a supporting cast that includes Olivia Williams, Kelly Macdonald, Emily Watson, Ruth Wilson, and Holliday Grainger, this should be one of the finest British films we can look forward to being released this year.
To go alongside the four images we saw last month, we now have two wonderful new images to share with you, courtesy of IMDb, of Keira Knightley as the eponymous Anna Karenina and Aaron Johnson as Count Vronsky.
“The third collaboration of Academy Award nominee Keira Knightley with director Joe Wright, following the award-winning box office successes “Pride & Prejudice” and “Atonement,” is the epic love story “Anna Karenina,” adapted from Leo Tolstoy’s classic novel by Academy Award winner Tom Stoppard (“Shakespeare in Love”). The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna (Ms. Knightley) questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”
We have in fact seen these images before, but in somewhat grainy scan-form, making these hi-res images much, much easier on the eyes. (Admittedly, Johnson is holding a gun, so ‘lovely’ may not be quite the right adjective to use, but it undeniably has aesthetic beauty, just like the image of Knightley.)
Anna Karenina will be released here in the UK on 7th September, and its US release date has recently been scheduled for 9th November. Last year, November saw the release of The Descendants, The Muppets, Hugo, My Week with Marilyn, and The Artist in the US. Setting a later US release for 9th November almost certainly stakes Anna Karenina’s claim as an Oscar contender. I can’t wait. As usual, you can click these new images to enlarge.
