We’ve been looking forward to DreamWorks’ Turbo for a while now, with a great first teaser trailer dropping at the tail-end of last year.
Damen got a chance to see a preview for the upcoming blockbuster a few months back, and he really liked what he saw – you can read his DreamWorks Animation 2013 Preview here.
We’re expecting the first full-length trailer to drop pretty much any day now. And ahead of that new arrival, Yahoo Movies have debuted the first poster, with our beloved little snail front and centre.
“Turbo is a snail who dreams of being the greatest racer in the world, just like his hero, 5-time Indianapolis 500 champ, Guy Gagne. His obsession with speed and all things fast has made him an oddity and outsider in the slow and cautious snail community, and a constant embarrassment to his careful older brother, Chet. Turbo desperately wishes he could escape the slow-paced life he’s living. As luck would have it, he gets that chance one fateful day after a freak accident when he suddenly finds himself vested with the power of incredible speed. Ryan Reynolds leads an absolutely stellar voice cast, taking the role of the eponymous Turbo himself. And joining him will be Paul Giamatti, Michael Peña, Michelle Rodriguez, Bill Hader, Luis Guzman, Richard Jenkins, Ken Jeong, Maya Rudolph, Ben Schwartz, Kurtwood Smith, Snoop Dogg, and Samuel L. Jackson.
David Soren (Merry Madagascar) is making his feature directorial debut, directing from a script he co-wrote with Robert D. Siegel (The Wrestler) and Darren Lemke (Shrek Forever After), based on an original concept by Soren.
Netflix and DreamWorks have already partnered up to develop Turbo into a series, due to arrive on the former network before the end of the year. So things are definitely looking good for the upcoming animated blockbuster, and I feel like it could be the one to beat this year.
Turbo will be released in 3D on 19th July in the US. Alas, its UK date is currently miles behind on 18th October, but it definitely looks like it’s going to be worth the wait. Here’s the first full poster whilst we wait for the new trailer to hit.
