Universal Pictures have released the first trailer and poster for A Walk Among the Tombstones, director Scott Frank’s (The Lookout) new dark crime thriller starring Liam Neeson.

Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling mystery novels, the movie will see Neeson play an alcoholic former cop in the movie, and his investigation into the kidnapping of a drug lord’s wife leads to him having to team up with a heroin trafficker in order to track down the men responsible for the crime.

From what we see in the trailer below, A Walk Among The Tombstones looks a lot darker than many of the other movies of this type that Liam Neeson has done recently, so it definitely looks promising.

Also below are some new stills for the movie, along with the official synopsis. Scott Frank also penned the screenplay and his impressive writing credits include Minority Report, The Wolverine and the upcoming Assassin’s Creed starring X-Men: Days of Future Past’s Michael Fassbender.

Based on Lawrence Block’s bestselling series of mystery novels, A Walk among the Tombstones stars Liam Neeson as Matt Scudder, an ex-NYPD cop who now works as an unlicensed private investigator operating just outside the law.  When Scudder reluctantly agrees to help a heroin trafficker (Dan Stevens) hunt down the men who kidnapped and then brutally murdered his wife, the PI learns that this is not the first time these men have committed this sort of twisted crime…nor will it be the last.  Blurring the lines between right and wrong, Scudder races to track the deviants through the backstreets of New York City before they kill again.

Also starring Dan Stevens, Boyd Holbrook and Sebastian Roché, A Walk Among the Tombstones is set to be released on September 19th, 2014.
