#1 – The Shawshank Redemption
Frank Darabont’s 1994 masterpiece, The Shawshank Redemption, is without a doubt one of my favourite movies of all time. As far as feel-good movies go, it doesn’t get much better than this. Morgan Freeman narrates and stars alongside Tim Robbins as Ellis Boyd “Red” Redding in this tale of friendship and unbreakable spirit.
Andy Dufresne (Robbins) is found guilty of the murder of his wife. Facing a lifetime in prison for a crime he didn’t commit, Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, where after months of gruelling torture and rape at the hands of “the Sisters”, Dufresne strikes up a friendship with Red and the other inmates at Shawshank.
So why is this my number #1? Well apart from the obvious (Mrs Dufresne’s extramarital activities – the very activities which indirectly lead to her murder) this is a story about friendship, brotherhood and how with your friends behind you, you can face even the most insurmountable odds and come out winning.
Plus did I mention is has Morgan Freeman narrating?
