To-the-Wonder-UK-Quad-PosterTerrence Malick’s To the Wonder promises to be one of the most prominent polarising films this year, earning as wide a set of reviews as possible from critics since its Venice debut last year – you can read our review from Toronto here.

The film will be released on our shores next month, and after watching it at TIFF last September, I’m looking forward to seeing it again.

A rather beautiful first trailer debuted just before Christmas, and was shortly followed up by the first international posters. And with its UK release date just over a month away, the UK quad has been released online, which we can expect to see going up on billboards and on the Underground in the next few weeks.

“The film is centred on Neil (Ben Affleck), a man who is torn between two loves: Marina (Olga Kurylenko), the European woman who comes to United States to be with him, and Jane (Rachel McAdams), the old flame he reconnects with from his hometown. Neil’s doubts about his life and loves are reflected in the crisis of faith experienced by Father Quintana (Javier Bardem), who only sees pain and the loss of hope in the world.

In TO THE WONDER, Malick explores how love and its many phases and seasons — passion, sympathy, obligation, sorrow, indecision — can transform, destroy, and reinvent lives.”

Ben Affleck, Olga Kurylenko, Rachel McAdams, and Javier Bardem make up the fine leading quartet, with each giving excellent performances. The odds are good that it will be the storyline and the beautiful visuals that will divide wide audiences.

Malick is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Sarah Green (The Tree of Life, Take Shelter) and Nicolas Gonda (The Tree of Life, Knight of Cups) producing.

To the Wonder will be released in the UK on 22nd February, with its US release date set for 12th April. Whilst we wait, here’s the beautiful new UK poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
