The-Wolverine-PosterArriving in the height of summer, James Mangold’s The Wolverine promises to be one of the best superhero movies of the year, with Hugh Jackman returning once more to the role we all know and love him for.

The first teaser trailer is set to debut on Wednesday this week. And ahead of its arrival comes the first poster, giving us a rather epic look at Jackman reprising his role as Logan / Wolverine.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

Jackman is joined by a brilliant supporting cast, led by Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Will Yun Lee, Hal Yamanouchi, Brian Tee, and Svetlana Khodchenkova.

Mangold is directing from a script penned by Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback, with Jackman producing alongside Hutch Parker, John Palermo (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Drive), and Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men, Constantine).

*Minor spoiler alert*

That slash across his chest in this first poster for The Wolverine below looks pretty nasty! Jackman previously teased that the coming film will feature a kind of Kryptonite for Wolverine, and so the slash might well not heal as fast as he’s used to.

The Wolverine will be released in 3D on 26th July in the UK and US, and that’s a release date that can’t come fast enough for me. Be sure to come back on Wednesday to see the trailer when it lands. For now, here’s the film’s awesome first poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
