If it is, it’s awesome.

Yesterday brought with it our brilliant first look at Hugh Jackman on the set of Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, and it looks like the first teaser poster may have surfaced online for an entirely different Jackman film, The Wolverine.

The sequel to 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine has been in development for some time now, and last summer we heard that Fox had finally found its director in James Mangold (Walk the Line; 3:10 to Yuma).

The last thing we heard about the film was that the studio had set its release date in the US for 26th July, 2013, so we have just over a year to get into highly-anticipated mode for what’s bound to be an awesome blockbuster – Jackman just is Wolverine in my eyes.

ScreenRant (via Collider) have now put up a photo of what looks to be the first teaser poster for next summer’s film, and if it is – Fox is yet to confirm/deny – then it’s a brilliant start to what’s sure to be a great ad campaign.

Set in Japan, the sequel’s script has been written by Christopher McQuarrie (The Usual Suspects), with a rewrite from Mark Bomback (Die Hard 4.0), and filming is set to get underway once Jackman has finished up working on Les Misérables later this year. He’ll be returning to the role he first took up back in 2000, and this time around, we can look forward to seeing him:

“beginning a forbidden romance with a Japanese woman whose hand in marriage is, unfortunately, promised to another man. Since Logan won’t take “no” for an answer, it puts him into battle with her father and her samurai-sword-wielding brothers and Silver Samurai.”

Having been through its fair share of starting and stalling, it’s good to know that the project is underway, and even if it turns out this is fan-made, that only shows that there’s already deserved anticipation surrounding it. Either way, the poster is awesome, and if The Wolverine wasn’t already on your radar, hopefully this will go some way to pinning it in your mind now. More as we get it.
