Svetlana-Khodchenkova-and-Hugh-Jackman-in-The-WolverineAfter catching the epic first theatrical poster for The Wolverine this morning, a new alternate poster and a set of eight awesome images have debuted online.

The Wolverine’s first teaser trailer is dropping this Wednesday, and we can’t wait to see what director James Mangold has brought to the table here.

Hugh Jackman’s return as Logan / Wolverine has been long overdue, and this latest entry in the X-Men movie franchise can’t come fast enough. Especially with Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past not far off on the horizon, either. Though they may be unrelated, in terms of plot, we get to see Wolverine return for both of them, and that can only be good news.

Based on the celebrated comic book arc, The Wolverine finds Logan, the eternal warrior and outsider, in Japan. There, samurai steel will clash with adamantium claw as Logan confronts a mysterious figure from his past in an epic battle that will leave him forever changed.

Jackman is joined by a great ensemble, led by Hiroyuki Sanada, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto, Will Yun Lee, Hal Yamanouchi, Brian Tee, and Svetlana Khodchenkova.

Mangold is directing from a script co-written by Christopher McQuarrie and Mark Bomback. And Jackman also produces alongside Hutch Parker, John Palermo (X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Drive), and Lauren Shuler Donner (X-Men, Constantine).

These images give us our first official look at Khodchenkova as Viper, and it looks like she could well be a favourite villain amongst moviegoers this year, sporting an awesome green outfit below.

The Wolverine will be released in 3D on 26th July in the UK and US. If you haven’t already, start committing that date to memory, because this is going to be awesome. For now, here are the latest images from the film, which you can click through to enlarge, along with the alternate new poster. Be sure to come back on Wednesday when the first trailer lands.
