The-Smurfs-2-PosterWhen The Smurfs was released back in 2011, I don’t think anyone expected it to do quite as well as it did. And when the film took more than 0m. at the international box office, The Smurfs 2 was always going to be on the horizon.

The sequel will be heading into theatres next month, and now Sony have released a new full-length trailer over on Yahoo Movies, giving us a good look at some of Gargamel’s Naughties.

The evil wizard Gargamel creates a couple of mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties that he hopes will let him harness the all-powerful, magical Smurf-essence. But when he discovers that only a real Smurf can give him what he wants – and only a secret spell that Smurfette knows can turn the Naughties into real Smurfs – Gargamel kidnaps Smurfette and brings her to Paris, where he has been winning the adoration of millions as the world’s greatest sorcerer. It’s up to Papa, Clumsy, Grouchy and Vanity to return to our world, reunite with their human friends Patrick and Grace Winslow, and rescue her! Will Smurfette, who has always felt different from the other Smurfs, find a new connection with the Naughties Vexi and Hackus – or will the Smurfs convince her that their love for her is True Blue?

Hank Azaria, Neil Patrick Harris, Jamya Mays, Sofía Vergara, and Brendan Gleeson make up the live-action part of the cast. And alongside them, Katy Perry, Jonathan Winters, Fred Armisen, Alan Cumming, Anton Yelchin, Christina Ricci, and JB Smoove lend their voices to the film.

Raja Gosnell is at the helm once more, directing from a script co-written by Karey Kirkpatrick, David Rohn, Jay Schreick, J. David Stern, and David N. Weiss.

The Smurfs 2 will be released in 3D on July 31st in the US and UK, and is sure to be one of the biggest family-favourites of the year.

Since graduating, I spend as much time as possible watching films/TV shows, reading books, and listening to music. So getting to write about what I love is nothing short of awesome. Biggest film-related hope for 2014/ever: Guy Ritchie announcing the RocknRolla sequel is finally moving forward.
