The-Place-Beyond-the-Pines-PosterOf all the films coming out this year, Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines is amongst the highest that I can’t wait to talk to people about. I saw the film at its debut at TIFF last year and instantly fell in love with it.

For my money, it is Cooper’s finest performance to date (including Silver Linings Playbook), and Gosling brings nothing less than the immensity we all know and love from him.

We saw a brilliant new trailer earlier in the month ahead of its spring release. And now IMDb have debuted the first theatrical poster, following the teaser poster that we saw at the start of the year.

“Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.”

Gosling and Cooper are joined by Dane DeHaan, who gives a similarly brilliant performance to round out the leading trio. And starring alongside them are Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen. I personally think DeHaan and Mendelsohn ought to be given full credit on the poster below, because they’re both absolutely terrific in The Place Beyond the Pines. Hopefully when the UK poster lands, their names will be part of the focus as well.

Cianfrance is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine) producing alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).

The Place Beyond the Pines will be released in the US on 29th March, with its UK release date set for 12th April. I can’t wait to see this one again. It is utterly immense. For now, here’s the first poster, which you can click through to enlarge.
