Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines is hands down one of the best films coming out this year, with a spot reserved on my Top 10 Films of 2013. I saw the film at its TIFF debut last year and loved it, and I can’t wait to see it again.
Led by Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper, we were treated to an impressive new trailer earlier in the month ahead of its release this spring.
And now, following the first theatrical poster that arrived earlier this week, EW have debuted ten great new images from the film.
“Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.”
Gosling and Cooper are joined by a fantastic cast, headed up by Dane DeHaan, Ben Mendelsohn, Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen.
Cianfrance is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine) producing alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).
Gosling and Cooper are both absolutely exceptional here, with Cooper continuing to prove his dramatic talents are every bit as brilliant as his comedic abilities.
The Place Beyond the Pines will be released in the US on 29th March, with its UK release date set for 12th April. This is one of the best films of the year, and its release can’t come fast enough.
