The-Place-Beyond-the-Pines-PosterDerek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond the Pines is easily one of my favourite films of the year. I saw the film at TIFF last year, and absolutely loved it. And naturally, I’ve been looking forward to seeing it again and being able to talk about it.

Ryan Gosling and Bradley Cooper are exceptional in the leads, and it’s definitely a must-see movie this month.

The first trailer landed late last year, and was followed by another great UK trailer earlier in the year. And with the film’s US release date coming up fast, a new clip has surfaced online.

*Spoiler Alert* If you want to go in without knowing much, you may want to avoid this clip.

“Luke (Gosling) is a professional motorcycle rider who turns to bank robberies to support his newborn son, but when he crosses paths with a rookie police officer (Cooper) their violent confrontation spirals into a tense generational fued. THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES is a rich dramatic thriller that traces the intersecting lives of fathers and sons, cops and robbers, heroes and villain.”

Gosling and Cooper are joined by a stellar ensemble, with Dane DeHaan and Ben Mendelsohn both giving very notable performances here. And starring alongside them are Eva Mendes, Ray Liotta, Rose Byrne, Bruce Greenwood, Mahersala Ali, and Emory Cohen.

Cianfrance is once more directing from his own script, with past collaborators Jamie Patricof, Alex Orlovsky, and Lynette Howell (Blue Valentine) producing alongside Sidney Kimmel (Moneyball, Lars and the Real Girl).

The Place Beyond the Pines will be released in the US on 29th March, with its UK release date set for 12th April. I’ve been looking forward to seeing the film again for months now, and am so glad that it’s finally almost here. This is definitely a must-see movie of the year. I can’t recommend it strongly enough.
