With just twelve days and counting until The Hunger Games arrives on the big screen, we’ve been getting an impressive marketing campaign in recent months promoting what could be one of the biggest films of the year.

Just last week, we got a great new TV spot that highlighted some of the epic size/scale we can look forward to in Gary Ross’ adaptation, and now we have a great five-minute featurette from Entertainment Tonight of the leading cast inviting us behind the scenes, talking about their involvement with the project, and showcasing some great new footage from the film.

“In a not-too-distant future, the United States of America has collapsed, weakened by drought, fire, famine, and war, to be replaced by Panem, a country divided into the Capitol and 12 districts. Each year, two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, part brutal intimidation of the subjugated districts, the televised games are broadcasted throughout Panem as the 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors, literally, with all citizens required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss’ young sister, Prim, is selected as the mining district’s female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, the son of the town baker who seems to have all the fighting skills of a lump of bread dough, will be pitted against bigger, stronger representatives who have trained for this their whole lives.”

In Lionsgate’s first adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ original trilogy of novels, we can look forward to seeing Jennifer Lawrence taking the lead as Katniss Everdeen, whom she describes in this new video as a Joan of Arc-like heroine, supported by an impressive cast that includes the likes of Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Liam Hemsworth, Elizabeth Banks, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Isabelle Fuhrman, Willow Shields, Lenny Kravitz, Amandla Stenberg, and the awesome Wes Bentley, almost all of whom discuss their work on the film in this great new featurette.

The Hunger Games will be released in the UK and the US on 23rd March, and will be getting an IMAX release for anyone looking to enjoy this on an even bigger screen, and in case you’ve missed out, you can catch up on all the rest of our coverage for the film here. For now, here’s your five minutes behind the scenes of what will almost certainly be one of the biggest openings of a new franchise in recent years. Enjoy.
