With Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) taking over the helm for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, we should have a fresh new eye brought to the table on the anticipated sequel, following the pretty astounding success of last year’s franchise-starter.
The first teaser trailer launched back in the spring, taking us back into the world of Katniss Everdeen and co. And with the full trailer set to debut at Comic-Con this weekend, Lionsgate have teased a set of new character posters, revealing the new form-fitting costumes for Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and her fellow tributes.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Jennifer Lawrence is joined once more by another stellar ensemble, led by Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Willow Shields, and Donald Sutherland.
Francis Lawrence is at the helm, directing from a script penned by Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire), with Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Star Wars Episode VII) doing a rewrite, all based on Suzanne Collins’ original novel.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released on November 22nd in the US and UK, and is sure to be one of the biggest movies of the year. As we await the arrival of the first full-length trailer this weekend, here are the new character posters, along with a new image of Katniss, Peeta, and Banks’ Effie Trinket.
