Opening largely unopposed, and wisely so, all predictions for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire have the anticipated sequel opening huge around the globe, with the potential for some record-breaking numbers by the end of the weekend.
The movie opened in cinemas here in the UK yesterday, and it arrives in the US today, following early previews last night. And after catching a trio of new TV spots earlier in the week, Lionsgate has released a new TV spot heading into the weekend, teasing more action from one of the biggest blockbusters of the year.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Jennifer Lawrence is of course front and centre once more, reprising her role as Katniss Everdeen from the best-selling books. And starring alongside her this time around is Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Willow Shields, and Donald Sutherland.
Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is behind the camera for the sequel, and he’s directing from a script written by Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire), who adapts the original novel by Suzanne Collins.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is now playing in regular and IMAX cinemas in the UK, and is released in the US today, November 22nd.
