With less than two months to go before Katniss Everdeen and co. return to the big screen, Lionsgate have begun stepping up a gear as the countdown continues for the release of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
The studio launched the latest trailer over the summer, giving us an extended look into the second instalment in the film series (the third and final film will be a two-parter). And now it has released a new poster, with Jennifer Lawrence front and centre, along with a ‘Moments Worth Paying For’ trailer, in conjunction with FindAnyFilm.com.
For those unfamiliar with the campaign, ‘Moments Worth Paying For’ is essentially all about promoting film in cinemas, and showing that film is something worth paying to see. To date, the campaign has naturally focused on blockbuster movies, and Catching Fire is pretty much as big as they come.
THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE begins as Katniss Everdeen has returned home safe after winning the 74th Annual Hunger Games along with fellow tribute Peeta Mellark. Winning means that they must turn around and leave their family and close friends, embarking on a “Victor’s Tour” of the districts. Along the way Katniss senses that a rebellion is simmering, but the Capitol is still very much in control as President Snow prepares the 75th Annual Hunger Games (The Quarter Quell) – a competition that could change Panem forever.
Lawrence is of course joined by another fantastic cast, with new and familiar faces alike, led by Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Elizabeth Banks, Jena Malone, Stanley Tucci, Woody Harrelson, Lenny Kravitz, Jeffrey Wright, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Willow Shields, and Donald Sutherland.
Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend) is at the helm this time around, taking over from Gary Ross. And he’s directing from a script written by Simon Beaufoy (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire), with Michael Arndt (Little Miss Sunshine, Star Wars Episode VII) doing a rewrite, adapting Suzanne Collins’ original novel.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire will be released in regular and IMAX cinemas on 21st November in the UK, with its US release date following the next day on November 22nd.
