The-Host-PosterAndrew Niccol’s adaptation of The Host brings to the big screen Stephenie Meyer’s work once more, following the conclusion of The Twilight Saga last year.

Saoirse Ronan, Jake Abel, and Max Irons take the young leading trio roles this time around, and we’ve seen plenty of impressive footage from the sci-fi blockbuster in recent months.

A brilliant new trailer debuted a few weeks back, and now the first TV spot has been released online, via Cambio, giving us a great new look at what’s next from Niccol.

“Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading ‘soul’ who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves – Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.”

Starring alongside Ronan, Abel, and Irons will be Diane Kruger, William Hurt, and Chandler Canterbury completing the cast.

Niccol is directing from his own script, based on Meyer’s original novel, The Host.

I’m a big fan of Niccol’s work to date, with the writer-director coming off the back of the successful sci-fi/dystopian thriller, In Time. And I’m always looking forward to what he’s bringing us next.

The Host will be released in the UK on 27th March, with a 29th March US release date set. So we’ve got pretty much exactly one more month to wait before it arrives on our screens. Here’s the first TV spot to set the tone.
