Andrew Niccol’s The Host is due to hit theatres in just over two months, bringing with it a potential new franchise for Stephenie Meyer’s work, following the end of The Twilight Saga last year.
The first full-length trailer that hit back in November was more than a little bit awesome. And after catching a new set of banners earlier this month, the first character poster for Saoirse Ronan landed yesterday. With a new set of individual posters on the way, Just Jared have been kind enough to give us the second, of Max Irons as Jared Howe.
“Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading ‘soul’ who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves – Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.”
Ronan, Irons, and Jake Abel star as the young leading trio, with support coming from Diane Kruger, William Hurt, and Chandler Canterbury.
Niccol is directing from his own script, adapting Meyer’s original novel of the same name.
Meyer has spoken in the past of considering the possibility of turning her novel into a new trilogy, and if the film does well at the box office, then there will no doubt be a new wave of voices clamouring for more from the author and the film in the years to come.
The Host is due to be released in the UK on 22nd March, with its US release date set for a week later on 29th March. For now, here’s the latest in the new series of character posters, which you can click to enlarge. And we should have more for you soon.
