The-Host-Character-Poster-Jake-AbelThe first full-length trailer for Andrew Niccol’s The Host landed late last year, and gave a brilliant long look at what could be a mammoth blockbuster franchise in the years to come.

Adapting the original novel of the same name by Stephenie Meyer (The Twilight Saga), the film will be hitting theatres this March.

In recent weeks, we’ve been treated to the character posters for Saoirse Ronan and Max Irons, starring as Melanie Stryder and Jared Howe, respectively. And now the author herself has debuted the latest in the series through her website, giving us a look at Jake Abel as Ian O’Shea.

“Melanie Stryder refuses to fade away. The earth has been invaded by a species that takes over the minds of their human hosts while leaving their bodies intact, and most of humanity has succumbed. Wanderer, the invading ‘soul’ who has been given Melanie’s body, knew about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind. Melanie fills Wanderer’s thoughts with visions of the man Melanie loves – Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body’s desires, Wanderer yearns for a man she’s never met. As outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off to search for the man they both love.”

Ronan, Irons, and Abel star as the young leading trio, with support coming from Diane Kruger, William Hurt, and Chandler Canterbury.

Niccol is directing from his own script, adapting Meyer’s original novel. The writer-director has a brilliant way of crafting new worlds for his audience to live in, and we’re looking forward to seeing his latest effort here.

The Host will be released in UK cinemas on 22nd March, with its US release date set for a week later on 29th March. For now, here’s the latest poster in the series.
