The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey finds us back with Jackson over a decade later and despite the new cinema technology of 48fps which is being used for the first time on this scale there is a keen familiarity to much of the film.

The difference in tone, in the writing for the less varied company of characters and in the unexpected change from two films to three Phillippa Boyens has a unique perspective on the creation of the two trilogies.
