The-Heat-Quad-PosterExceeding everyone’s expectations for it over the weekend, Paul Feig’s latest comedy hit The Heat opened to just shy of m. in the US, playing very strong against Disney’s holdover winner, Monsters University.

The film’s box office run is now running at north of $50m., and is sure to continue to do very well in the coming days and weeks. With its UK release still on the horizon at the end of the month, Fox have released a new clip from the buddy cop movie.

Uptight and straight-laced, FBI Special Agent Sarah Ashburn (Sandra Bullock) is a methodical investigator with a reputation for excellence–and hyper-arrogance. Shannon Mullins (Melissa McCarthy), one of Boston P.D.’s “finest,” is foul-mouthed and has a very short fuse, and uses her gut instinct and street smarts to catch the most elusive criminals. Neither has ever had a partner, or a friend for that matter. When these two wildly incompatible law officers join forces to bring down a ruthless drug lord, they become the last thing anyone expected: buddies.

Sandra Bullock and Melissa McCarthy are the unlikely duo leading the film, starring alongside Michael Rapaport, Demián Bichir, Nathan Corddry , Marlon Wayans, Kaitlin Olson, Taran Killam, Andy Buckley, and Tony Hale.

Feig (Bridesmaids) is directing from a script penned by Katie Dippold (Parks and Recreation, MADtv), who makes her feature debut here as a writer.

The Heat is hitting cinemas in the UK on 31st July, and is now playing across the US.
