We heard earlier this week that Sacha Baron Cohen had announced his intentions to attend this Sunday’s 84th Academy Awards in character as General Aladeen from his upcoming movie, The Dictator.
Apparently, the Academy weren’t too happy with the idea and decided to withdraw Baron Cohen’s invitation, and now Aladeen has responded in kind with a brilliant ultimatum, alongside his appearance on MSNBC’s The Today Show.
I would’ve loved to have seen whatever Baron Cohen was planning to do at the ceremony at the weekend, but unless the Academy gives in to his threats of unimaginable consequences, it’s looking like he’ll be missing the party.
Regardless, these two videos are a great addition to what is sure to be one of the year’s funniest and most controversial films, with Baron Cohen’s natural comedy brilliance discussing the film industry in his dictatorial country, the Republic of Wadiya, in both of the two videos below.
The Dictator, which sees Baron Cohen reuniting with frequent collaborator Larry Charles, will be released in the US on 11th May before coming to the UK a week later on 18th May. I can’t wait.
