Robert Redford’s The Company You Keep is definitely shaping up to be one of the most promising thrillers of the year.With an all-star cast, headed up by Redford and Shia LaBeouf, we’ve got a lot to look forward to when it lands in a few months’ time.
Following last summer’s release of the first trailer, Sony Pictures Classics released a great new trailer yesterday. And to add to that, we’ve got the first US poster, with Redford and LaBeouf centre stage.
“A single father’s upper-middle class life as a lawyer in upstate New York is shattered when his past as a radical activist member of the Weather Underground is revealed and he is accused of having been the triggerman at a deadly bank robbery years before. Forced to go on the lam, the man evades law enforcement and encounters a series of drug dealers, bomb-planting radicals turned leftist academics, Vietnam vets, FBI agents and Republicans who collectively ponder the legacy of the ’60s while searching for the one woman who can prove his innocence.”
Joining Redford and LaBeouf in The Company You Keep will be Brit Marling, Susan Sarandon, Anna Kendrick, Nick Nolte, Terrence Howard, Stanley Tucci, Chris Cooper, Brendan Gleeson, Julie Christie, Stephen Root, and Sam Elliott. Essentially, one of the most promising casts of the year.
Redford is directing from a script by Lem Dobbs (The Score, Haywire), who adapts the original novel by Neil Gordon.
LaBeouf’s film choices since finishing with the Transformers trilogy have been very encouraging, making a real name for himself last year with Lawless. He’s got a slew of films on his slate that look set to continue to impress, with The Company You Keep being a very promising one among them. And I’m really glad that people are taking notice of his many dramatic talents.
The Company You Keep has its US release date set for 5th April, starting in limited release and continuing to open wider across the country in successive weeks. Its UK release is set for 7th June, which is definitely a date that can’t come soon enough for me.
