This new film from Ben Affleck is based around the true events of the 1979 Iran hostage crisis and has Affleck and his extradition team posing as a film crew shooting a sci-fi film in order to gain access to the hostages and rescue them. It’s a crazy idea and today’s first look shows that while Affleck looks to keep his feet on the ground there are moments hinted at when it may lose such a sure footing..
Affleck has an impressive cast for his latest film, including Bryan Cranston, John Goodman, Scoot McNairy, Kyle Chandler, Alan Arkin Clea DuVall as well as a Red State Reunion of Michael Parks and Kerry Bishé. Goodman gets the best lines in the trailer and frankly the man could sell any film to me but the main draw here has to be Affleck whose films so far have shown much improvement over its predecessor - a trend which the success of this film will determine.
Warner Bros. have just released the first trailer for the film and though it’s a little uneven in terms of tone (deathly serious/screwball spy flick/sadness and doom) Affleck knows how to suffuse the atmosphere of his films with a tangible sense of threat which looks as if it’ll be in much demand for this story.
Here’s the trailer,
