Last week we saw a remarkable new extended behind-the-scenes featurette from Tom Hooper’s Les Misérables, and this week begins with the beautiful new poster from the hotly-anticipated film.
Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, and Amanda Seyfried lead an excellent cast, and with the unique and innovative approach to sing live on set, rather than in the studio, I cannot wait to see how it turns out in a few months’ time.
“Set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, Les Misérables tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption—a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Jackman plays ex-prisoner Jean Valjean, hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert (Crowe) after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s (Hathaway) young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.”
Sacha Baron Cohen, Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks, and Helena Bonham Carter complete the cast nicely, with Hooper directing from a script by William Nicholson (Gladiator, Shadowlands), who adapts the original classic novel of the same name by Victor Hugo and the world-famous stage musical.
Les Misérables will be released on Christmas Day in the US, and is naturally a very strong Oscar contender across the board in the coming awards season. Here in the UK, it will arrive on 11th January, a date which cannot come fast enough. For now, here’s the beautiful new poster, which you can click to enlarge. Enjoy.
