The-Amazing-Spider-Man-2-Triptych-BannerSpidey was the superhero of choice at the New Year’s celebrations at Times Square, and to make the evening even sweeter, Sony debuted a great new preview for The Amazing Spider-Man 2.

The first trailer promised epic action worthy of following up the 2012 reboot, with the more recent international trailer showing off a little of the comedy that was so well received in the first film. And this new preview teases a little of both, promising an awesome showdown between Spider-Man and Electro in the iconic New York setting.

In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy – between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can’t come quickly enough. Peter hasn’t forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen’s father to protect her by staying away – but that’s a promise he just can’t keep. Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past.

Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone once more lead a terrific cast, with Jamie Foxx, Dane DeHaan, Paul Giamatti, Felicity Jones, Sally Field, Martin Sheen, Chris Cooper, Brian Haley, Colm Feore, and B.J. Novak completing the ensemble very nicely.

Marc Webb is back behind the camera for the second instalment in what will be at least a trilogy of Spider-Man films. He’s directing from a script penned by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman (Star Trek, Transformers) and Jeff Pinkner (Fringe, Lost), based on a previous draft by The Amazing Spider-Man’s James Vanderbilt.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in 3D and IMAX 3D on 18th April in the UK, with its US release date following a little later on May 2nd.
