Talk of a second sequel to complete what will become The Hangover trilogy has been circling ever since the second film, The Hangover Part II, took the box office by storm last May and did even better business for Warner Bros. than the first film.

THR are now reporting that the second sequel’s leads, Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, and Zach Galifianakis, are close to finalising their contracts, and it’s expected that they’ll be seeing a dramatic increase in their wages.

The first film saw the leads taking under $1m. each, which is to be expected, when it was a pretty low-budget film that no one could really predict beforehand would do as well as it did. Following that success, turning a $35m. budget into north of $450m. worldwide, the principals’ salary increased for the sequel, taking $5m. up front and a portion off the profits, which saw their final earnings in the mid-teens, after the sequel took more than $580m., surpassing the half-billion mark and then some.

And now it looks like they’re getting a hike once more, with such good business expected for the finale, with their paycheques looking to be about $15m. apiece, plus the extra off the backend again after the film gets released, which, if all things go well, could easily see them with north of $20m. each. The trio are said to be presenting a united front in their negotiations, and clearly they’re being taken seriously, which is excellent. (I remember watching Galifianakis back in the day on that little-known show Tru Calling, and wouldn’t have guessed in a million years that he’d be taking a $15m.-plus contract in a matter of years.)

As Cooper updated last month, the third film is set to take place in Los Angeles, and is expected to deviate from the formula of the original two:

“I hope we’ll start shooting next September. I know (director) Todd Phillips is working on the script. We stuck to the formula in the second one but the third would need to close the trilogy. I think it’ll take place in L.A. and not adhere to the structure.”

And it looks like they could be going into production slightly earlier than anticipated, with the studio hoping for shooting to begin this summer, eyeing a release on Memorial Day 2013, which is the last weekend of May, giving it the same slot it opened in last year.

Incidentally, Fast & Furious 6 is scheduled to be released that weekend too, and whilst the target audiences are a bit different, it will be interesting to see how the box office results look that week (the figures would no doubt be huge), if they do both end up opening on the same weekend.

Co-writer Craig Mazin was hired to work on the script pretty much as soon as the sequel came out, and Cooper’s quote above suggests that Phillips has been working with him on it too, having co-written the second with Mazin as well.

The plot is understandably being kept under wraps, though Collider note that there are rumours circling that it will involve Alan (Galifianakis) escaping from a mental hospital.

The studio have recently had to put one of their expected blockbusters, Akira, on hold, as well as taking Arthur & Lancelot off the calendar completely, so it’s looking likely that they’ll want to push on and fast-track The Hangover Part III as quickly as possible. More as we get it.

Shrek’s journey has been one of highs and lows, but it was running out of interesting places to go, something even Shrek the Third director Chris Miller would agree with. Concentrating on another of Shrek’s travelling companions was always going to be a tall order; making a supporting character stand alone in a film can go either way. Miller and co have definitely succeeded with Puss in Boots in the new 3D film of the same name, tapping into the older audience’s nursery-rhyme nostalgia while putting the ‘cool’ back into the time-old stories for the newer generation.

Long before he met Shrek, the notorious fighter, lover and outlaw Puss in Boots (voiced by Antonio Banderas) was an orphan then a criminal then a local hero after an adventure to track down some magic beans and the Golden Goose with tough, street-smart Kitty Softpaws (Salma Hayek) and criminal mastermind Humpty Dumpty (Zach Galifianakis).

Puss in Boots is a hearty hoot with a fairy-tale twist created by feline experts who should count themselves as having got the cream and wiped the floor afterwards with other family animations out there at the moment. Puss is certainly one hell of a fun kitty to watch who revels in his lead role, stepping out of the shadows of Shrek. He gets a chance to reveal his full personality in this, all within a neat 90-minute run-time with some well choreographed action that makes full use of the 3D technology in the sword fights.

Banderas and Hayek conjure up as much sexy Latin charm in their hilarious sparring that a U-rated film can allow, enough to get things sizzling for those old enough to understand, while, thankfully, coming across as playful, squabbling kitties to those too young to know. Banderas’s Puss shows a more vulnerable side in this to his dashing, arrogant self, aided by a purposeful but brief back-story with Humpty Dumpty that balances misfortune and humour in equal, satisfying measure, as not to be over-sentimental. This also serves as Puss’s raison d’être for his spectrum of feelings for his egg-headed friend who betrays him and his subsequent redemption.

Hayek is the confident one to Puss’s self-deprecating side that marries very well in the confrontations – the old ‘opposites attract’ rule. Watching these characters interact is an absolute thrill and creates the film’s high-spirited, often frenetic energy. These ‘meeting of the minds’ moments are wonderfully interrupted by acutely observed feline antics, including the paw-grabbing light trick that is absolutely hilarious after some intense, suave patter.

In contrast, Galifianakis’s vocal performance as Humpty Dumpty adds a child-like innocence to proceedings then changes and becomes self-centred and greedy in nature. Humpty for the kids is like the school bully, hurtful but actually hurting and with more to lose. Galifianakis is a chameleon of charm and menace and an odd, welcoming distraction from the Latin amore at times. It’s this compelling trio of variable characters that make the film so strong in character concept. With Neanderthal-like criminal heavies Jack (Billy Bob Thornton) and Jill (Amy Sedaris) on their case to shake up events, and a Godzilla-like Golden Goose rampaging through the town at the end, Puss in Boots is a well-crafted, well-intentioned romp through fairy-tale land – even if there are a couple of continuity gaffs some might spot, for example, the weighty golden eggs becoming as light as the chick’s feather back at camp.

Chaotic yet beautifully arranged, sensuous yet innocent, Puss in Boots is a fun-packed treat full of delightful, detailed contradictions and touching tales with a manageable-sized cast that you get well acquainted with and fully enjoy. Cat lovers will be in kitty heaven.

Bradley Cooper has been a huge rising star in the past few years, becoming one of the best known faces in comedy at the moment after The Hangover found huge success at the box office back in 2009, taking more than $450m. at the international box office from a $35m. budget.

He also proved himself more than capable of leading a film of his own earlier this year with the brilliant Limitless, which gained success from the critics, especially regarding his performance, as well as impressively taking more than $150m. at the box office, making it something of a sleeper hit.

He and his fellow hungover co-stars repeated their successes this year and then some, breaking the rule of sequels not out-earning their originals, with The Hangover Part II taking more than $580m. across the globe. Naturally, rumours have been circulating that a third film would soon be on its way, and The National Ledger report, via MovieHole, that Cooper has confirmed that he and his co-stars will be returning once more for The Hangover Part III.

The first film found the friends waking up in a hotel room in Vegas, the second shifted gears and moved the location to Thailand, and it seems that the third – and potentially final – film will be bringing the franchise Stateside again, to be set in Los Angeles. Speaking to Graham Norton, Cooper said,

“I hope we’ll start shooting next September. I know (director) Todd Phillips is working on the script. We stuck to the formula in the second one but the third would need to close the trilogy. I think it’ll take place in L.A. and not adhere to the structure.”

If shooting does indeed commence at the start of autumn next year, it’s probably likely that we can look forward to Part III being one of the bigger comedy films of the summer in 2013. With writer-director Todd Phillips working on the script, having co-written the last film and directed both the first films, fans of the series can be sure that the third film is in safe hands. Clearly, with the second film out-performing the original at the box office, there’s still a huge market for their blend of comedy, especially since Part II passed the half a billion mark.

Naturally, to keep fans entertained, Phillips will probably need to mix things up a bit for what Cooper predicts will be the last film, and it sounds like that’s exactly what he’s planning on doing. It’s still early days yet, to it may well be a while before we start hearing about new casting additions, but it’s probably a safe bet that we can expect Zach Galifianakis, Ed Helms, and Justin Bartha all to reprise their roles, no doubt along with the somewhat ridiculous Ken Jeong as Leslie Chow.

Before then, we can look forward to seeing Cooper in some pretty awesome upcoming films, including Derek Cianfrance’s The Place Beyond The Pines, David O. Russell’s The Silver Linings Playbook, and Alex Proyas’ adaptation of Milton’s Paradise Lost, all of which should be immense.

I still can’t get used to Kermit standing, nor Gonzo’s ‘heroic’ pose but any poster with Fozzie in it is worth taking a gander at. The film is out in the UK next year (yes, still annoyed about that) but our US cousins had their fix last week. Turns out it’s a great film… marvellous!

After the Vegas-set shenanigans of a few years ago, Stu (Ed Helms) is set to marry Lauren in Thailand. Phil (Bradley Cooper), Alan (Zach Galifianakis) and Doug (Justin Bartha) all come along and after a supposedly innocent beer by a fire on the beach, wake up in a squalid Bangkok hotel room with no memory of the night before. Doug is missing again, as is Lauren’s 16 year old brother, who must be found and returned before anyone finds out what has gone wrong. As with Vegas, the Wolfpack must try to retrace their steps, find out what has happened and put everything right in time for the wedding, which is likely to be a problem, what with Stu now sporting a tattoo across half his face and Lauren’s brother’s finger sitting in a glass of water….

The Hangover made north of $400m at the box office, making a sequel a virtual certainty. What wasn’t so certain, but nonetheless proves so disappointing, is how by the numbers and lacking in imagination this sequel proves to be. Despite director and co-writer Todd Phillips suggesting that the “Part II” thing is intended to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the incomparably more epic and high-brow Godfather films, it still comes across as ridiculous. In any event, “Part I” would be the better title, given how flagrant a retread this is of the key points of the undoubtedly superior original.

Telephone call prologue, background fill-in, thrashed hotel room wake-up, search for clues, physical injury, Mr Chow, strippers, sudden realisation, race to the wedding, Mike Tyson, photo montage over the credits. It is all so very lazy and predictable. Even worse, in place of the humour and inventive escalation of the original, there is a genuinely troubling lack of laughs, replaced with lewdness, grime and casual racism. The ante is upped from the original, but only in terms of the language being worse, the damage to Stu being more horrifying and the long term injury suffered by the lost member of the party being more enduring. There are elements that are played for laughs that come across as disturbing instead.

If there are positives to be found, they would be in Ed Helms and Bradley Cooper, who suit their roles well and at least give a convincing depiction of desperation, confusion and panic. The Wolfpack get caught up with some interesting characters along the way, but Galifianakis’ man-child shtick has worn well and truly thin and the efforts to beef up his role simply result in clichéd and predictable awkwardness and embarrassment. In the end though, none of this goes anywhere inventive, creative or funny with the abiding fear that the film’s box office haul of upwards of $560m can only mean that there is more to come.

You can rent or buy The Hangover Part II here from 2nd January 2012 or 5th December respectively and least if you watch it at home you can have a shower afterwards.

Extras: A mock-doc pretending to try to dig behind the scenes of what the director and principals got up to in Thailand and the devastation they left behind is an interesting idea, enjoying contributions from JJ Abrams among others. But it outstays its welcome and quickly becomes laughable in a bad way. Other than that, there is a gag reel, a behind the scenes look at how Todd Phillips shoots the comedic scenes, a woefully unfunny tour of Bangkok with Mr Chow and a look at the monkey that for the most part steals the show. Very poor.

The brilliant John Lithgow, twice Oscar nominee and beloved star of the excellent comedy series 3rd Rock From The Sun (which also starred a young Joseph Gordon-Levitt), was last seen taking a more dramatic turn this summer’s blockbuster, Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Variety are reporting that he’ll next be returning to the world of comedy to star alongside Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis in Dog Fight, which will see,

“Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis star as two rival politicians running for a congressional seat in a small North Carolina district election.”

The film is to be directed by Jay Roach, whose credits include Austin Powers and Meet the Parents, with a script coming from Chris Henchy, who wrote the Ferrell comedies The Other Guys and Land of the Lost, and Shawn Harwell, who makes his feature debut after writing on Eastbound & Down.

Along with Ferrell and Galifianakis, Lithgow will be joining a cast that includes Jason Sudeikis, who was great in Horrible Bosses this year, Dylan McDermott, Sarah Baker, and Katherine LaNasa.

Ferrell and fellow producing partner Adam McKay will produce under their Gary Sanchez Productions shingle, along with Roach, under his Everyman Pictures, and Galifianakis.

Dog Fight already has a 10th August release date scheduled for next year in the States, and hopefully we’ll be getting a summer release for the film too, because it sounds like it has potential.

Taking a break from posing heroically the latest poster for Dreamworks’ Shrek spin-off has one of Puss in Boots’ most memorable moments front and centre to emotionally manipulate you into an excitable frenzy.

Antonio Banderas leads with his voice and has Salma Hayek​ as Kitty Softpaws, Zach Galifianakis​ as Humpty Dumpty​, and Billy Bob Thornton as Jack (of Jack and Jill fame) in support.

Given the depths to which the Shrek films have fallen it’s a surprise that the word on Puss in Boots is very positive at the moment, and while I can’t see a dozen sequels sparking off this one like an errant catherine wheel at least we’ll have a decent animated movie from the franchise once again.

While the population of the UK wait like expectant children at a Christmas shop window for the unveiling of the new Muppets film (out in February) the States are about to feel the fuzzy might of the latest movie with its release this week. A fact which makes this particular offering all the more tantilising.

Coming Soon have nine clips from the film and each one is a lot of fun, with Piggy’s take on a movie classic from the 80s my particular favourite, and it draws to a close one of the most successful and hilarious marketing campaigns of recent years.

The cinematic return of The Muppets is a welcome one, yet there was no knowing if writers Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller, along with director James Bobin, had a decent grasp of the essence of Muppetry.

What we’ve seen so far, and something which the early Stateside reviews appear to compound, is that this is a true Muppet film, and a welcome return to form after some less than successful dalliances apeing literary classics.

More Muppets today, with a well-timed jab to the ribs of The Twilight Saga in the midst of its global release week, and these new posters are just perfect.

With any other film there would be a distinct danger of oversatuaration but this campaign has been running for a long, long time (and thanks to a thoroughly irritating release delay for us chumps in the UK will run a little longer) and there hasn’t been a misstep along the way.

Every franchise or series The Muppets have targeted they have nailed perfectly, and while it’s not an exaggeration to offer up the equation that Anything + Muppets=awesome it’s still a sight to behold.

Disney have released a sneak peek at the opening dance sequence from the highly anticipated The Muppets this week.

The clip is short but it certainly lets us know what we are in for. And that’s a whole load of fun, familiar faces and goofiness. Now all we need is for February to hurry up.

Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller are bringing The Muppets back to the big screen and there’s a new glimpse of the film out today.

The merry band of Yahoos have given us this clip which is, fairly obviously, from the early part of the film and sees our new Muppety friend Walter learning of his impending trip to the fabled Muppets studio. I am just as excited as Walter considering I’ve watched the scene when he, Segel and Amy Adams meet their hero and what happens then. Suffice to say there were tears.

The lucky US get this film months ahead of us in the UK with a Thanksgiving release planned across the pond. For some odd, stupid and frankly unfair reason we’re stuck with Muppet hysteria until February next year. I am not ok with this.

The upcoming Shrek spin-off, Puss in Boots, is getting closer and closer to its 9th December release, and as its release draws closer, we can look forward to seeing more of the advertising campaign for the film.

We’ve been seeing plenty of the film over the past months, and if you’ve fallen behind, then you catch up on all that we’ve seen right here. The film sees Antonio Banderas reprise his role from the Shrek films as the eponymous Puss in Boots, with a supporting cast that includes the voices of Salma Hayek as Kitty Softpaws, Zach Galifianakis as Humpty Dumpty, and Billy Bob Thornton as Jack (of Jack and Jill fame).

Yahoo Movies have got a brand new clip from the film that brilliantly shows Puss just trying to sip his shot of milk in a pub filled with people mocking him, and when they notice a ‘Wanted’ poster with his adorable-eyed face on it, things start to get violent. At which point, Puss tells them that they don’t want to make him angry. Gotta love little ol’ Puss taking on the lines of the Hulk. Brilliant stuff.

The film is directed by Shrek the Third’s Chris Miller, and will see,

With its 9th December release date just a month and a half away, we’ve not got much longer to wait until we can see it on the big screen. Though a tad sceptical at first, everything I’ve seen for the film so far has got me very much looking forward to it, and now I can’t wait for the start of December. Without further ado, here’s the brand new clip, entitled ‘Not Looking For Trouble’, to enjoy.

MSN have released this third and most likely final trailer and poster for the brand new Dreamworks movie, Puss in Boots. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, when it was first announced, I had the feeling that it was going to be shockingly bad but after seeing quite a bit of footage from the it at various events and online, it actually looks very good, and this new trailer continues that trend.

Puss in Boots is directed by Chris Miller and has a voice cast which includes Antonio Banderas​​, Zeus Mendoza, Walt Dohrn​​, Billy Bob Thornton​​, Amy Sedaris​​, Salma Hayek​​ and Zach Galifianakis​. It’ll be with us 9th December.

Plot: Way before Puss ever met Shrek, our suave and furry feline hero goes on a swashbuckling ride, as he teams with mastermind Humpty Dumpty​ and the street-savvy Kitty to steal the famed Goose that lays the Golden Eggs.

We’ve seen a number of parody trailers for the new Muppet movie, out in the States on the 23rd of November but not out here in the UK until the fricking 10th of fricking February next fricking year, as well as some great posters of our furry friends and here we’ve got four more to tease us into nostalgic whimpery.

Jason Segel and Nicholas Stoller are the men bringing The Muppets back to the silver screen for which they, and director James Bobin, should receive some sort of medal of honour and it seems as though they’ve made good on their promise to get the film ‘right’ as we’ve seen some great footage and trailers for the movie so far.

With the Muppet theatre under threat from a greedy oil tycoon the band must get back together and save the day (and the theatre) in true Muppety fashion with songs, terrible jokes and a whole host of cameos. Can’t wait…

My only complaint about the new posters – no Fozzie. Here they are, enjoy Muppeters…

When news first came of a Puss in Boots spin-off from the Shrek franchise, I think a fair few people were a little sceptical about whether or not it would be worth watching.

Everything we’ve seen so far has definitely been very promising though, kicking off last summer with the first images and plot description, then the first trailer back in March this year, and most recently a great first UK poster.

Now comes a great new viral video for the film courtesy of ComingSoon.net, in which Puss in Boots tells you how much better he is than your cat. And, in pretty much all cases, I’m inclined to agree. Does your cat talk with Antonio Banderas’ voice? Does your cat have golden eggs? Does your cat ride a horse?

That’s what I thought.

Directed by Chris Miller (Shrek the Third), the film will see,

America is lucky enough to be getting this in just a few weeks’ time on 4^th November, but alas we here in the UK will have to wait until 9^th December to enjoy it on the big screen, and shown in 3D.
