While it didn’t exactly break new territory or impress many critics, Bruce Almighty proved to be a commercial hit with its simple premise and charming allure, raking in an estimated $484M worldwide and spawning a less-than-desirable spin-off that’s better left unmentioned.

It’s no surprise, then, to hear that Universal are looking to capitalise on its success with a long-awaited sequel.

According to the ever-reliable folks over at Variety, feelers have been sent out to screenwriting duo Jarrad Paul and Andrew Mogel (Hot Tub Time Machine) in the hopes they’ll dream up a story worthy of telling.

Directed by Tom Shadyac, Bruce Almighty starred Jim Carrey (The Mask) as a guy who, after becoming disillusioned by the forces at will, is awarded the powers of God to teach him just how difficult it is to be ruler of all things. Jennifer Aniston (The Break-Up), Morgan Freeman (Red) and Steve Carell (The 40 Year Old Virgin) co-starred.

No further information is known at this point, but we’ll be sure to keep you updated as and when anything new is reported.

Vin Diesel has pretty much put rumours of a sixth and seventh Fast and the Furious film to rest this week by stepping out of the shadows to pretty much (two important words there) confirm them.

Speaking on the writing process of the much touted sixth film (a process that I’m sure is ably aided by a veritable surfeit of Hot Wheels miniatures and a lot of vroom vroom sound effects) he has stated:

With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space. We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages.

To this he added that the studio said “you can’t fit all that story in one damn movie!” which for my money is Universal braying for two films worth of box-office, what with their engine currently running on last year’s Fast Five dollars and all.

Director Justin Lin is confirmed for the sixth and everyone seems to be assuming that he and the cast will return for both new outings considering that most of them are pretty much box-office poison outside of the franchise (and by most of them I ironically mean the two leads stars Vin Diesel and Paul Walker). Even so that’s no bad thing because as long as you lobotomised yourself on the way in Fast Five was undoubtedly rollicking good fun.

It’s yet to be seen whether the two films will be stand-alone pieces or whether they will form one two-part contiguous story but either way I’m excited. Whilst they won’t be anything like The Hobbit or Harry Potter 7 they will definitely rival them as pieces of all out entertainment.

So we’re all sitting here waiting for a new trailer for The Dark Knight rises which as yet has failed to materialise but fear  not as we have this new international trailer for Snow White and the Huntmans from Universal Pictures via their Mexico office. One movie in 2012 that we know will have no problems with promotion has to be Snow White and the Huntsman or SWATH as it’s becoming known on Twitter mainly due to the fact that it has Twilight star Kristen Stewart in it! This trailer does look fabulous with Chris Hemsworth this time waving an axe rather than his giant hammer from Thor. Also love seeing Charlize Theron as the baddie, she looks fabulous! Roll on Summer 2012!

Here’s some first look images that we received earlier in the week for Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax. It stars Danny DeVito, Zac Efron, Ed Helms, Taylor Swift, Rob Riggle and Betty White. It’s directed by Chris Renaud and is released 27^th July 2012.

The 3D-CGI feature Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope.  The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams.  To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Danny DeVito will lend his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler.  Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic young boy who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Ashley, the girl of Ted’s dreams.  Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is the third feature created by Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment (Despicable Me, Hop).

In my opinion the more Dr. Seuss there is in the world the better we are for it, and this new trailer for The Lorax gives a quirky twist to the usual hyper saturated colourama of CG animated features.

Based on the Dr. Seuss’ children’s book of the same name, The Lorax is directed by Chris Renaud​ and stars Danny DeVito​, Zac Efron​, Ed Helms​, Betty White​, Taylor Swift​ and Rob Riggle​ and has this brief synopsis to account for itself,

Here’s something you don’t see every day! We’ve got some new set photos of Kristen Stewart wearing a Snow White costume while wading through the no doubt freezing Atlantic for her new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. Earlier in the week we got a glimpse of the Twilight star donning her rather more sturdy armour but today she looks rather more feminine in her Snow White costume.

Snow White and the Huntsman is currently filming on Marloes Sands beach in Wales for the movie which we can expect to hit our screens summer 2012. As well as Stewart, the movie stars Charlize Theron​​, Chris Hemsworth​​, Sam Claflin​, Ian McShane​, Toby Jones, Nick Frost​, Ray Winstone​​, Lily Cole​, Bob Hoskins​, Eddie Marsan​ and it’ll be with us Summer 2012. Universal Pictures have unveiled a promo poster for Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me 2.

Despite not being released until July 3, 2013, directors Pierre Coffin and Chris Renaud are already hard at work on the follow-up to last years surprise animation hit, which has since grossed an estimated $543M at the worldwide box office and boasted the voice talents of Steve Carell, Jason Segel, Kristen Wiig and Julie Andrews.

Apart from that, details are thin on the ground, but it’s safe to say this will be one of 2013′s most anticipated releases.

During Comic Con 2011 a few weeks ago, by far the biggest hit article we posted was our live blog for Universal Pictures’ new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. This is mainly due to the fact that Twilight star, Kristen Stewart is in it! But Stewart aside, the cast for this one is rather fabulous and also includes Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole, Bob Hoskins and Eddie Marsan (with more in the pipeline!).

It’s so great to see yet another big movie being shot here in the UK and especially at Pinewood Studios which is simply a movie magical place to be with all it’s history!

Snow White and the Huntsman, a new epic action-adventure from Universal Pictures, has now begun production at Pinewood Studios.

The crew has started to construct some fantastic sets on the Studios’ backlot, as well as on some of its world famous stages.

Alexandra Maria Lara (Downfall) has landed the lead female role in Rush, The Playlist have confirmed.

The rising actress will star opposite Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Daniel Brühl (Inglourious Basterds) in the racing film.

Written by acclaimed screenwriter Peter Morgan (The Last King of Scotland), Rush centers on Austrian Niki Lauda’s (Brühl) rivalry with English racer James Hunt (Hemsworth).

Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind), whose ambitious The Dark Tower was recently delayed indefinitely by Universal, is attached to direct.

Filming is expected to begin early next year.

News have come thorough via The Hollywood Reporter that Sin Nombre director Cary Fukunaga (currently winning plaudits for his adaptation of the Emily Bronte classic, Jane Eyre) will be working within a very different genre for his next feature. The American filmmaker will direct sci-fi thriller, Spaceless, for Universal, and will also rewrite the screenplay based off the original spec by Jeff Vintar (one of the screenwriters from i, Robot).

It’s a trippy, reality-bending tale of an assassin in space who awakens to find himself deep in the galaxy, having no recollection of what happened since breaking into the space station where he was to perform his hit. Alone (and with a limited air supply), he must try to solve the mystery of his death.

Earlier this year, it was announced that Fukunaga would direct and co-write No Blood, No Guts, No Glory (one of the scripts from the 2009 Black List). It looks like Spaceless has now taken priority over that.

Currently delighting the crowds at Comic-Con Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman panel is showing a lot of early proof of concept footage and some character art along with the Q&A.

Our man in San Diego is liveblogging the event right now and from his comments is looks as though this film is making good on its promise to be a ‘darker, grittier’ take on the fairy tale while the rival Snow White film with Lilly Collins is apparently being played more for laughs.

Charlize Theron tells us that she’s playing the character of the Queen as a serial killer and Kristen Stewart’s Snow White is done up ala Tim Burton’s Alice, in full armour.

The studio are also releasing the character art online, check below for the first pictures of Stewart, Theron, Hunstman Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin.

Comic Con 2011 is now in full flow. NBC Universal are about to kick off with their panel for which stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Marsan, Lily Cole, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, Toby Jones and is directed by Rupert Sanders.
