Reuniting the Rubins is diercted by Yoav Factor and stars Timothy Spall (Harry Potter Franchise, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, The King’s Speech), Honor Blackman (Goldfinger), Blake Harrison (The Inbetweeners), Rhona Mitra (Underworld: Rise of the Lycans, The Number 23), James Callis (Bridget Jones’s Diary, Battlestar Gallactica).

Lenny Rubins, (Timothy Spall) an up-tight lawyer, has to put his dream retirement on hold when his ailing mother (Honor Blackman) emotionally blackmails him into reuniting his estranged children for a Jewish holiday.

They may be peas from the same pod, but in Lenny’s eyes his grown up children are certainly not from the same planet: a survival-of-the-fittest hard-nosed capitalist (James Callis), an outspoken eco-warrior committed to the cause (Rhona Mitra); an outer worldly Buddhist Monk; and to cap it all a bible bashing born-again Rabbi!

They might not see eye to eye, quarrel, fight, but they are still family and it is going to take a whole lot of soul searching and sacrifice for all involved to come together in this heart warming, family comedy that will have you thinking of your own family with a smile.

Directed by BAFTA award-winner Andy De Emmony (West is West), Love Bite stars Luke Pasqualino, Ed Speelers, Jessica Szohr, Timothy Spall, Kierston Wareing, Robin Morrissey and Daniel Kendrick.

High school is over and summer has begun in the dead-end seaside town of Rainmouth. While Jamie’s friends seem to be happy working in the local pie factory by day and looking for a shag by night, Jamie is bored out of his mind, running his pot-head mother’s B&B. He’s desperate to get out of there. But when he meets beautiful, smart and sexy American traveler Juliana at a party, he’s smitten – the world is not so small after all.

But soon after Juliana’s arrival, strange things start happening. One of the local teens goes missing at a party. Then, another. Jamie is warned by an enigmatic stranger that a werewolf is in town – and preying solely on virgin flesh! The only way to be safe seems to be to pop your cherry. (But that can’t be true… can it?)

As the locals are picked off one by one, the boys fear that a werewolf is indeed after them. And for all their talk, it turns out none of them have ever had sex before…

Pretty soon, everyone is dying to get laid…

HeyUGuys visited the set of Love Bite in Glasgow earlier this year, so keep your eyes peeled for a host of exclusive interviews with the cast when the film makes its way to U.K. cinema in 2012.

In the meantime, check out the poster and teaser trailer below:

We’ll be covering the premiere with red carpet interviews and a live stream of events in London and you can follow our ongoing retrospective on the Potter films on the site over the next week.

This new clip sees Hogwarts in a tailspin as the army of Lord Voldermort approaches for the final showdown. Here’s hoping the last film will live up to the unpresedented hype with which it arrives.

This week, we’ll be at the world premiere in Leicester Square along with hopefully hanging out with some of the cast so keep your eyes peeled for our review of all the events that we have coming up.

“Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2,” is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series. The much-anticipated motion picture event is the second of two full-length parts. In the epic finale, the battle between the good and evil forces of the wizarding world escalates into an all-out war. The stakes have never been higher and no one is safe. But it is Harry Potter who may be called upon to make the ultimate sacrifice as he draws closer to the climactic showdown with Lord Voldemort . It all ends here.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is directed by David Yates , stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter , Jim Broadbent , Robbie Coltrane , Warwick Davis , Tom Felton , Ralph Fiennes , Michael Gambon , Ciarán Hinds, John Hurt , Jason Isaacs , Matthew Lewis, Gary Oldman , Alan Rickman , Maggie Smith , David Thewlis, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Bonnie Wright and is released 15th July in the US and UK.

I don’t hate the films (honestly, what is there about them to dislike that strongly?), but I do find myself coolly indifferent to them.

In the interests of placing my cards on the table, I have not read any of the books, nor have I in fact seen all of the films. I suppose that is sort of part of my point. Whilst it would be easy to dismiss my observations on the basis that I haven’t formed a wholly informed opinion, or haven’t given the franchise a decent chance to affect me, surely the fact that I can’t be bothered to see Half Blood Prince or Deathly Hallows Part 1 means something? No, not that I have poor taste in films, rather that for some people the franchise just is not that engaging.

Each successive film has been trumpeted with the “this one’s much darker” fanfare, which is all well and good, but does not really make any difference to the fundamental appeal of the films. I remember sitting down to watch Prisoner of Azkaban, assured that a fresh pair of directorial hands (the acclaimed Alfonso Cuarón of Y Tu Mamá También and Children of Men fame) was going to inject some much needed flair into the franchise, after Chris Columbus’s workmanlike efforts. What I was left with at the end was 2+ hours of “someone has escaped prison and is after Harry, actually he’s a goody, let’s do a bit of time-travel”. I ask you. What an uneventful waste of time. Perhaps if I were of a different age and had been captivated and enchanted by the books, or wonder-struck by the world of Hogwarts as evocatively presented in the first film, it might have all been very different.

But alas it has not. We have had some of the very best of the world’s acting talent on show in the course of HP1-7 (Gary Oldman, Richard Harris, Michael Gambon, Helena Bonham-Carter, Alan Rickman, Kenneth Branagh, Emma Thompson, Timothy Spall, Jason Isaacs, Ralph Fiennes, Jim Broadbent, Brendan Gleeson, John Hurt) and some genuinely accomplished directors have held the reins too, but the three principals have never been up to scratch and the effect has been obvious and jarring. Long ago, a review of one of the earlier films rightly decried the inability of the screen-writers to turn JK Rowling’s three-term book structures into conventional, fluid three-act film structures. Too often the screenplays have simply progressed through the narratives of the books, covering the right ground, but failing (or refusing) to make difficult or daring decisions in the way the best novel adaptations have (LA Confidential, Lord of the Rings, anything based on the work of Raymond Chandler) and the results have been painfully ordinary.

I am sure multitudes out there will disagree. Heck, I can think of a couple of the writers for this site who are not going to agree with me at all, but there has just been nothing in this franchise that has remotely excited me. It’s all been very serviceable, very predictable, when the films ought to be scintillating, electrifying. Now admittedly, the trailer for HP7 PtII looks outstanding – epic, thrilling, barn-storming – maybe it will the darkest and best yet, but frankly we’ve all seen enough thrilling trailers for duff films to last us a lifetime. Remember Pt I looked ace, then most of the critics went “meh”.

I recognise of course that the world is full of films on which many sensible-thinking people have held wildly divergent opinions. What I find interesting is that the HP franchise is such a juggernaut, such a massive hit with so many and so fascinating for so many and yet, despite me being what I would consider to be a devoted and heart-felt film fan, I have remained utterly impervious to its charms. It’s clearly not to do with its genre, as I have deep, abiding love for the Lord of the Rings films, nor is it on account of the youthful cast. The Goonies and Bugsy Malone number among my favourite child-populated films, so I haven’t got it in for child stars. So what is it? Why don’t I care about HP?

All (polite and well-mannered) suggestions would be gratefully received below.

It’s easy to become blinded by the shine from its multiple awards but the Blu-ray and DVD release of The King’s Speech is an opportunity to enjoy Tom Hooper’s excellent film again, and it’s an opportunity well worth taking.

The film tells the story of the ascension of King George VI to the throne and the painful maturation of the man’s public persona and its key ingredient, the voice of a King. The central relationship between Firth’s King George and Geoffrey Rush’s unorthodox Australian speech leads the film from the 1925 closing speech of the British Empire Exhibition to the rousing speech to the nation on the outbreak of War. It is a rich tale, told with impeccable pacing, focus and is something of a triumph for a relatively low budget British independent film.

It may have been decried as Oscar bait on its release, a label as unfair as it was prophetic, but there is something undeniably classic about Hooper’s film with an affecting and rich central performance from Colin Firth. The choices Hooper made with the composition and layering of the speech therapy sessions do as much for the film’s momentum as the crippling moments of public speaking, and the use of silence is pitch perfect and Hooper has spoken about his collaboration with composer Alexandre Desplat which resulted in Firth’s vocal performance having the space to breathe, to be heard.

Their is a line through Hooper’s work in which a public figure and a private relationship play out, his Damned United and TV series Longford and John Adams both played with the notion of discovering a public voice and in The King’s Speech the theme finds its most accomplished execution. We feel emotionally charged and viscerally attuned to the savage expectation, both from commoner and King, of the importance of ‘the voice’ and there is a tangible sense of helplessness in Firth’s King and Hooper’s skill is in relaying the human aspect of the pomp and circumstance; we all feel the same as our words hit the air.

The director’s commentary has Hooper his usual generous self, and the construction of character and his famous ‘triangle of man-love’ between him and Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush is not only great fun but illuminates the on-screen relationship. The real history behind the film is given its due and the DVD and Blu-ray is bolstered with these additions but the jewel here is the rarest of beasts: an Oscar-winner that is worthy of the hype surrounding it, and is even more satisfying on a second watch. Firth arguably did better work with Tom Ford’s A Single Man but here he has to lead us through a far wider world and the reason it works it because Hooper never lets us forget who the man is. In moments of crises Hooper kicks in with a very shallow depth of field and Firth seems increasingly lost in his own prison. To be the most public person in the country and still be completely alone is a hard trick to pull off as an actor and for a director, but Hooper and Firth manage it flawlessly.

The supporting cast is exceptional, Hooper shows his playful side by casting I Claudius actor Derek Jacobi and in Jennifer Ehle he reunites the Darcy and Lizzie of the BBC’s iconic Pride and Prejudice, and it’s churlish to suggest that this film is an automatic Oscar winner and the performances and direction are not worthy of the praise it’s received. Hooper allows the film’s central story to be peppered with small moments as the bedtime story with the Princesses and the embittered interplay between Firth’s George VI and Guy Pearce’s irascible Edward VIII, never drawing our eye away from the story, embellishing it and rewarding us with a solid and inspirational piece of work that will stand with the best of British film for years to come.

Tom Hooper’s film has waltzed through awards season winning accolades for its stars, directors, screenwriters and the film itself, and in order to capitalise on this success the film has been re-edited in the States, taking out the more offensive language and gaining a new, box-office friendly PG-13 rating.

The debate will rage on and on, but this new poster, found by our friends at Best For Film, sets the new tone nicely.

Which immediately richochets off of the cultural consciousness and suggests this moment from a true family classic,

The moments which affected me most in Tom Hooper’s film were the bedtime story with the princesses, or the quiet beakdown before the storm – and it has a huge heart. I’m also extrememly pleased that more people will be enticed into seeing the film, but I can’t help but feel Tom Hooper and David Seilder’s film has been compromised in order to make money.

Offensive language and censorship is a big part of cinematic culture and we are seeing boundaries shift back and forward for social or economic reasons and new version of The King’s Speech will make even more money and prove that re-editing a film is a viable commerical option, even if it plays merry hell with artisitic integrity.

And if you’re really annoyed just make a slight adjustment to the poster when you see it.

Following on from remake Let Me In and the recent Hilary Swank chiller, The Resident, Hammer Films’ third latest cinematic offering, Wakewood, hits cinema screens tomorrow.

After the death of their young daughter in the film’s opening scene, Patrick (Aidan Gillen) and Louise (Eva Birthistle) retreat to the countryside and set up shop in the quiet backwater town of Wakewood in an attempt to patch up their disintegrating marriage. One night, during a disagreement where Patrick is driving his wife to the train station, their cars breaks down and they inadvertently stumble upon a kind of pagan-y sacrificial-cum-rebirth ceremony, preceded over by the town’s leader (Timothy Spall, complete with an Irish brogue that come and goes during all his scenes).

Confronted by Tim and his townsfolk back at their home, the couple are informed that if they wish, they will be granted the opportunity to spend three days with their deceased daughter, whom the residents of Wakewood can bring back to life. After much soul-searching (which roughly equates to around two and a half minutes of screen time) the couple agree to go ahead with the process. After their initial happiness and joy of this seemingly miraculous rebirth, they soon come to realise (surprise, surprise) that their little poppet is not quite the cherub she was in her past life.

After a long absence away from the silver screen, Hammer Films are under new management and back as fully-fledged players in the horror market. Why, oh why, then did they insist on attaching themselves to such an inert film as Wakewood? To make matters worse, the film isn’t even an original Hammer production, and was an acquisition by the studio!

It’s a film which falls flat at pretty much every level. It’s badly shot, badly lit, badly edited, badly acted and worst of all, apart from the grisly effective rebirth scenes, isn’t remotely scary and just ends up being a horrible bore. It never manages to summon up an atmosphere which you could describe as “chilling” and any traditional jumps achieved are via the post-production process, where it’s a case of cranking up a “whoosh” or “thuds” a notch or two on the sound mix. The rest of the film plays like a game of spot the rip-off of other superior films in the genre like Don’t Look Now, Pet Semetery, The Omen, Carrie and of course, The Wicker Man.

Frustratingly, the town whose title the film is derived from, never factors into the story at all. We get no sense whatsoever of the community and why they are fully supportive the black magic used and the supernatural rituals. Unlike other horrors with a similar setting, the location, crucially, never comes to life to become a character in itself.

Aidan Gillen and Eva Birthistle as the grieving couple have nothing in the way of chemistry together and performance wise, are barely phoning it in here. Gillen in particular is incredibly disappointing, and one would imagine the sole reason for doing the film (apart from the obvious monetary one) was that location-wise, it was a car journey away from his home. He does absolutely nothing with the role. In fact, they both deal with the reanimation of their once deceased child with the utmost of ease and act like she’s just been away to a relatives’ house for a couple of weeks and not in the ground for almost a year. They seem to take this supernatural proposal and eventual outcome completely in their stride.

When it’s inevitably revealed that the little girl has gone “bad”, the audience are told this through a kindly old neighbour who seems to have been able to discover this fact by waving what looks like a mini abacus in front of the child. The film really is that weak and unimaginative.

If Hammer is serious about re-establishing themselves as a reputable brand they should avoid anything which even closely resembles Wakewood in the future, in much the same way that audiences should steer clear here.

We’ve been given three sets to give away so scroll down for more info.

THE KING’S SPEECH is based on the true story of Queen Elizabeth II’s father and his remarkable friendship with maverick speech therapist Lionel Logue. Fascinating, moving and often humorous it charts the personal relationship that developed between England’s reluctant King George VI, plagued by a nervous stammer, and his irreverent Australian speech therapist.

As the second son of George V, Prince Albert “Bertie” was not expected to ascend to the throne, but when his brother Edward abdicates to marry American Wallis Simpson, Bertie, as his successor, is crowned King George VI.

George becomes King as radio is taking off as a mass medium and the Second World War looms. Thrust into the international spotlight he must speak not only to the nation but to the people of the British Empire, across the world. His wife, Queen Elizabeth – the future Queen Mother – is tireless in her belief in him. Having tried all the traditional doctors she engages unorthodox outsider, Logue, to help him find a voice that can inspire a nation on the brink of war.

BAFTA winner Colin Firth (A Single Man, Mamma Mia!) stars as Prince Albert, alongside his Shakespeare in Love colleague, Oscar® winner Geoffrey Rush (Pirates of the Caribbean, Shine), as speech therapist Lionel Logue. The multi-award-winning cast includes Helena Bonham Carter (Harry Potter, Sweeney Todd) as Queen Elizabeth (later the Queen Mother), with Guy Pearce (The Hurt Locker) as the abdicating King Edward VIII, Derek Jacobi (Gosford Park) as the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Cosmo Lang, Timothy Spall (The Damned United) as Winston Churchill, Jennifer Ehle (Pride and Glory, Pride and Prejudice) as Logue’s wife Myrtle and Michael Gambon (Harry Potter) as King George V.

Jon put up the teaser trailer for the movie last week but this trailer gives us a much better look at what we can expect. It’s scheduled for release in the UK for a short theatrical run on March 25, and then heads to DVD on March 28th.

And Hitler’s in a dress. It’s madcap. You know the sort of thing.

Here’s a synopsis,

The action begins as the Nazis – led by the campest Hitler on record (Alan Cumming) – plan an invasion of England. As Winston Churchill (Timothy Spall) plots an evacuation to Scot Land… somewhere in England’s green and pleasant countryside, farmworker Chris (Ewan McGregor) is trying to win the heart of Daisy (Rosamund Pike) while rueing the fact that he can’t fight for his country because his “hands are too big”

The DVD is out on the 24th January and we’ve got three copies to give away and all you have to do is answer the following question using the form below.

What was the other 2010 film in which Timothy Spall played Churchill?

Colin Firth has been highly praised for his role of King George VI of Britain, who employs a speech therapist to help overcome his stammer. Geoffrey Rush (who plays said therapist) has been winning plaudits too, and it’s the image of both actors which appears to be dominating the marketing drive, despite a rather impressive ensemble including Helena Bonham Carter, Guy Pearce, Michael Gambon and Timothy Spall.

The film opens in the UK on 7th January.

I had a lot of fun with this film at the LFF this year, and though it did slightly misstep once for a blowout of comedy posh swearing the relationships on screen were fraught with emotion and played beautifully by the cast. The relationship between Colin Firth and Geoffrey Rush in particular is magnetic and I can’t wait to see how the public take to this one.

Make sure you check this film out in the cinemas, it’s worth your time.
