When the line up for this year’s London Film Festival was announced earlier this month there was a sigh of relief as Michel Hazanavicius​’s film was revealed to be part of the programme.

The short clip that was played in the festival’s opening montage was for some, me included, the first glance of the film which has surprised everyone on the festival circuit and its triumph at Cannes means it arrives in London with both heavy expectation and tangible excitement.

The Artist stars Jean Dujardin​, Berenice Bejo​, John Goodman​, James Cromwell​, Penelope Ann Miller​, Malcolm McDowell​ and Missi Pyle​ and there are six clips online to give us a flavour of what’s in store.

Hollywood 1927. George Valentin (Dujardin) is a very successful silent movie star. The arrival of talking pictures will mark the end of his career. Peppy Miller (Bejo), a young woman extra, becomes a major movie star.

There is just one more day to go until we get to find out exactly why we never went back to the Moon with Gonzalo López-Gallego’s Apollo 18′s searing indictment on the socio-political consequences of NASA budget cutbacks.

Or more likely it’ll be a lunar version of Paranormal Activity which is pretty much what is promised here in this final trailer. Usually when a film isn’t screened for the press it bodes badly for the final product however into an open mind floods the notion that there’s something special on offer here and the new trailer promises a twist filled final ten minutes that any advance word would ruin. Yeah. I guess we’ll see tomorrow.

Moon based stalk/scare frenzy Apollo 18 has the intriguing premise of a secret lunar mission with unknown nasties attacking the astronauts, however despite a few well designed early teases the more we’ve seen of this film the more generic it’s looking.

Secret ‘found’ footage gimmicks and conspiracy craziness swirl around this but it won’t be until the 2nd of September that we get to see if director Gonzalo Lopez and producing partner Timur Bekmambetov can pull something surprising out of the shadows because Blair Witch in space isn’t doing it for me.

Three new clips have been released which contain a little new footage, and hint at a few interesting details that will be all important in creating the right atmosphere to scare our faces off.

The Weinstein Company have unveiled the first official poster for My Week with Marilyn.

Directed by Simon Curtis (Cranford), My Week with Marilyn stars Michelle Williams, Kenneth Branagh, Judi Dench, Dominic Cooper, Emma Watson, Eddie Redmayne, Julia Ormond, Toby Jones, Derek Jacobi and Dougray Scott.

Colin Clark (Redmayne), an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier’s, documents the tense interaction between Olivier (Branagh) and Marilyn Monroe (Williams) during production of The Prince and the Showgirl.

My Week with Marilyn is scheduled for release in the U.K. on November 18.

A trailer for Hellraiser: Revelations has stumbled forth from the bowls of Hell and, well, I guess we all know what the devil’s been eating.

Rather than a tease for the franchise’s planned reboot, Hellraiser: Revelations is instead a stop-gap to ensure that the rights don’t expire before The Weinstein Company can get that particular ball rolling (via Shocktillyoudrop).

Nothing could be clearer from the resultant trailer, with the series’ original icon, Pinhead, having to be recast when Doug Bradley declined to return due to “the miniscule shooting schedule [being] more than matched by the budget.” Ouch.

While the franchise was flagging anyway, this latest instalment shows all the hallmarks of an Asylum “original” as opposed to an instalment in an enduring cult classic franchise – the shaky-cam doing little to disguise the tacky sets and “scared face” performances.

If the trailer hasn’t completely put you off this contractual ninth instalment , and you can’t wait until the inevitable remake for you’re next cenobite fix (really? Not even after Clive Barker’s sweary tweet?), Dimension Extreme will release the film on DVD on August 30th, 2011, having previously played in only one Californian theatre.

Here’s a few new TV spots for the rather eerie movie that is Apollo 18. It’s produced by Timur Bekmambetov who directed Angelina Jolie in Wanted and this movie is directed by Gonzalo López. It recently got picked by by the Weinstein company so we’re expecting it to be rather good.

Kevin Costner (Dances with Wolves) is in advanced talks to co-star in The Weinstein Company’s Django Unchained.

Costner will star opposite Leonardo DiCaprio (Inception), Jamie Foxx (Horrible Bosses), Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) and Samuel L. Jackson (Snakes on a Plane) in the drama-western written and directed by Quentin Tarantino (Kill Bill).

Django Unchained centers on a slave-turned-bounty hunter (Foxx) who sets out to rescue his wife from the brutal Calvin Candie (DiCaprio), a Mississippi plantation owner.

Costner will play Ace Woody, the sadistic taskmaster who trains slaves to fight one another.

Meanwhile, the actor will be seen next in Man of Steel, Warner Bros. Pictures’ Superman reboot, to be directed by Zack Snyder (Sucker Punch).

The Weinstein Company have released the theatrical trailer for I Don’t Know How She Does It, the feature film adaptation of Allison Pearson’s acclaimed comedy novel.

Directed by Douglas McGrath (Infamous), I Don’t Know How She Does It stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Pierce Brosnan, Kelsey Grammer, Olivia Munn, Greg Kinnear, Seth Meyers, Christina Hendricks and Jessica Szohr.

Hedge-fund manager, wife, and mother of two, Kate Reddy manages to juggle nine currencies in five time zones and keep in step with the Teletubbies. But when she finds herself awake at 1:37 a.m. in a panic over the need to produce a homemade pie for her daughter’s school, she has to admit her life has become unrecognisable.

I Don’t Know How She Does It is scheduled to hit UK & US cinemas on September 16.

The Terminator franchise is in the hands of producer Megan Ellison, who’s Annapurna Films fought it out with Lionsgate in a deal which has Fast & Furious 5’s Justin Lin onboard to direct and Arnold Schwarzenegger back in the starring role.

Ellison is the daughter of US business magnate Larry Ellison, and she’s decided to put some of daddy’s cash to good use and fund a number of interesting upcoming features, including the hunt for Osama Bin Laden project, which reteams The Hurt Locker director Kathryn Bigelow and that film’s screenwriter, Mark Boal. It was also reported last week that she sold worldwide rights to The Weinstein Company for Paul Thomas Anderson’s next feature, which stars Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix.

She appears to be putting her weight behind some prestige pictures, which don’t necessarily sit within (with the recent exception of the ‘Bin Laden’ feature) the mainstream or appeal to a large audience (she came through for Anderson after he’d seen his pet project stall many time, with studios unwilling to put their money behind it).

It remains to be seen if she’ll insist on the same level of commitment to quality over The Terminator series, but anything that’s produced by Annapurna Films (she was an executive producer on the recent True Grit too), has to be an marked improvement on ‘Salvation’ right?!?

We can all rejoice with the news that Paul Thomas Anderson will begin production on his long-awaited, oft-delayed follow-up to There Will Be Blood next month. What’s more, it would now appear that The Weinstein Company has won the bidding battle for worldwide distribution rights to the picture.

Formally entitled The Master, both Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix (in a role originally earmarked for Jeremy Renner) are both on board for this period piece, which is said to be a thinly-veiled account of Scientologist founder L. Ron Hubbard, although Deadline are reporting that the script has since been reworked, so that element may not be as evident in the new version.

Good to see the Weinstein’s will be putting their considerable weight behind it, and due to a final-cut clause in Anderson’s contract (he’s had it since Boogie Nights!) he (and all his fans) can rest easy in the knowing his vision will remain intact!

The Weinstein Company have a forth instalment of their enormously popular horror franchise Scream on the way, so why not return to the spoof spin-off that has made them a another bucketload of cash too!

For those out there who already bemoan the lack of originality in Tinseltown, and are less than excited at the prospect of Scream 4 heading to the multiplexes soon, an announcement has cropped up on Facebook (and reported by ComingSoon) that the brothers Weinstein are planning a Scary Movie 5.

Oh geez! That series of films may have made a very healthy profit for the company in the past (a whooping $800 million worldwide in fact), but this really does smack of creative bankruptcy. Even Scream 4 feels like a completely unnecessary venture, so the idea of returning to its half-assed parody once again is just depressing.

Hasn’t the success of their big Oscar hope The King’s Speech been enough of a tell-tale sign that there is a big audience out there who are hungry for original, quality product?

The story of Facebook founder Mark Zukerberg’s ascension to the top (and the ensuing drama around his creation) has proved to be a big box office draw, and it also looks like The Social Network may be the recipient of a number of Oscars, come March time.

Following that film’s success and the current thirst to capitalise on contemporary news stories, it comes as no surprise to learn (via The Wrap) that a biopic of Julian Assange (the man who recently caused a near world-wide PR meltdown with site Wikileaks) is in the works.

Michelle Krumm (a former Weinstein Company executive) has teamed up with Josephson Entertainment to option the yet-to-be-published biography of Assange, entitled The Most Dangerous Man in The World. Written by Australian journalist Andrew Fowler, the book is scheduled to be released later this year.

The creator of Wikileaks is currently being held in custody over here, having had sex crime charges filed against him from Sweden.

The Weinstein Company have acquired US distribution rights to Cogan’s Tale, an upcoming adaptation of the George V. Higgins novel of the same name.

Set to be directed by Andrew Dominik (The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford), Cogan’s Trade will star Brad Pitt (Moneyball), Casey Affleck (The Killer Inside Me), Sam Rockwell (Conviction), Bella Heathcote (Now), and possibly James Gandolfini (Welcome To The Rileys), who is said to be in talks for an unspecified role.

A mob enforcer tries to track down the thieves who ripped off a high stakes card game.

Cogan’s Trade will commence production in March, with an aim to release it late 2011/early 2012.

Bright young thing Anne Hathaway (who has more than adequately made the leap from child actor to fully fledged movie star) has been taking to BBC Radio 4 programme Front Row about her plans for the Judy Garland biopic she’s involved with.

Her name has been mentioned as far back as early 2009 in regards to the adaptation of Gerald Clarke‘s Get Happy: The Life of Judy Garland, which has a home with The Weinstein Company. Hathaway is still very much involved, and appears to be intent on ensuring that the actress and singer’s life story is told properly – a decision which is creating a prolonged development process.

“We’ve taking our time with it. I know it seems like it’s sort of an endless process but it’s very, very slow incremental steps. I had a meeting about it a couple of weeks ago and we’re all very motivated.”

Hathaway is also concerned and uncertain as to how to tackle the musical aspect of the production and appease Garland fans.

“I certainly don’t sing like Judy Garland but the talk is to have me do the singing. But I think people might cry murder if they don’t get to hear Judy’s beloved voice so the talk is for me to sing but I don’t know if that’s exactly what will happen.”

This is obviously a major part of inhabiting the character, but Johnny Cash fans were able to get behind Joaquin Phoenix’s vocal interpretation, and Garland fans may be equally accommodating towards Hathaway.

Garland certainly lived a life worthy of receiving the biopic treatment (the obligatory high and lows of fame, five husbands and an accidental drug overdose at the relatively young age of 47) and it will be worth the wait to see what a quality actress like Hathaway can do with the material.

I can see the Oscar nom already.

IMP have debuted a wistful new poster for The Weinstein Company’s Blue Valentine.

Directed by Derek Cianfrance, Blue Valentine stars Michelle Williams, Ryan Gosling, Mike Vogel, John Doman, Ben Shenkman and Faith Wladyka.

Blue Valentine centers on a married couple, Dean and Cindy, and their relationship over a number of years by shifting between different time periods. Problems with the marriage center around Cindy’s ambition, juxtaposed to Dean’s contentment to center his life around his wife and child.

The Weinstein Company are actively challenging the NC-17 rating that was slapped on Blue Valentine by the MPAA.

The Weinstein Company have released a rather provocative poster for the currently NC-17 rated Blue Valentine.

Blue Valentine was written and directed by filmmaker Derek Cianfrance and stars Michelle Williams and Ryan Gosling as a couple trying to get their marriage back on track.

Synopsis: The story of love found and love lost told using past and present moments in time. Flooded with romantic memories of their courtship, Dean and Cindy spend one last night together to save their failing marriage.
