Universal Studios have released a new TV spot for their new epic summer movie, Battleship. We’ve seen a couple of trailers for the film and I have faith that it’s going to be great (i really hope it is!). Following on from the new trailer that just went live (see it here), we’ve just received some great new images and a new US poster for Battleship which hits 20th April in the UK and 18th in the US. It looks like some of these new images have been taken from the trailer but there’s a nice one of Liam Neeson looking dapper in his uniform but I’m sure the one of Rhianna will be far more popular.

This evening has gone completely mental! We we waiting for The Dark Knight Rises trailer and then suddenly a new one for Snow White and the Huntsman pops up then Universal go and do it again and put up the new trailer for Battleship! You can tell it’s the same people who did Transformers, just listen to the sound and the visuals! I kind of like it though! Battleship is with us Summer 2012.

Universal Studios have just released the first featurette for their new movie, Battleship which is set for release next year. In this featurette which has the name ‘real heroes’, we get to hear from the real life US marines that have helped to make the movie. Most of the extras that you’ll see in this movie are actual marines doing the job and have helped Director Peter Berg to make the movie as real as possible. We saw some set images from Universal Pictures’ new $200m movie, Battleship a while back which showed Rihanna in her get up but now, Rihanna Daily (via The Playlist) have released this first official image of every males favourite singer equipped with a massive (no, not an umbrella) machine gun!

A couple of weeks ago, we got our first proper look at the movie when Universal released the first trailer and we weren’t too sure what we thought. We’d hoping for good things and I’m sure with a $200m investment, Universal are too!

I’ve been looking forward to this one for a long while now although after watching this, I’m not sure what I think! I’ve been wondering how a board game can translate to a movie but here we get our first look as Universal Pictures have released the first trailer for their new movie, Battleship and it seems to be a mix between a naval movie and Transformers!

We had a feeling the trailer was imminent after the official website went live a few days ago to coincide with Comic Con. Battleship stars Taylor Kitsch, Tadanobu Asano, Jesse Plemons, Alexander Skarsgård, Liam Neeson, Rihanna and is directed by Peter Berg.

What do you think of the first trailer?

Back in mid-January, Dave met with Keanu Reeves to discuss Henry’s Crime and also got an update from him on “47 Ronin”, which was known to be in development. You can refresh your memory on what Keanu said by clicking here.

We now have news from Universal Pictures that shooting is set to kick off very soon, on 14th March, for this Carl Rinsch-directed epic tale of a group of Ronin who seek revenge on the overlord who killed their master and banished them, while also looking to restore honor to their country.

Alongside Keanu as Kai, the cast includes Hiroyuki Sanada (Sunshine, The Last Samurai) as Oishi, the leader of the Ronin, Kou Shibasaki (Battle Royale, Go) as the daughter of their master, Tadanobu Asano (Ichi the Killer, Mongol, the upcoming Thor and Battleship) as the overlord Kira and Rinko Kikuchi (Babel, The Brothers Bloom) as Mizuki.

With shooting underway in little more than a week, hopefully we’ll get some on set shots before too long.

A High-Resolution image of the Hall of Asgard has just been released. We saw the same image here but unfortunately the quality wasn’t the best.  Now we have a close up and can clearly identify all of the characters in the picture and even get a solid look at some of the armor they are wearing.

In the majestic golden throne we have Odin (Anothony Hopkins) being pleaded to by his kneeling son, Thor (Chris Hemswroth).  As you start to look closer on the bottom left you will see Loki (Tom Hiddleston) with his trademark double horned helmet.  Above Loki is Frigga, wife of Odin, played by Rene Russo.  Across from Frigga is Fandral the Dashing (Josh Dallas) and Hogun the Grim (Tadanobu Asano).

Additionally, if you look even closer you will find one leg sticking out of the picture on both sides of the staircase.  I wonder who they could belong to.  Some sources say that it could be the leg of Volstagg the Valiant, played by Ray Stevenson, but that still leaves us with another anonymous leg.  If you have any ideas about the missing legs please feel free to let us know in the comments section below.

The convergence of the Marvelverse shows no sign of slowing, with Iron Man 2 doing a good job of laying down various pieces of the groundwork while still making a cogent film in its own right.

The announcement of Kenneth Branagh to direct the studio’s Thor adaptation raised eyebrows, though I have to say that I’m intrigued to see what Branagh will do with the God and his Hammer.

A month ago we posted a purported Thor set picture from Latino Review, which they identified as the first picture of The Destroyer, but this was only a rumour.

It appears today that Marvel’s own Facebook page confirms the LR story as a new picture has emerged and it looks spot on.

Here’s the picture and it looks very nice indeed, in the coming months we may get to see more pictures from this film, hopefully including the stellar cast Branagh has assembled.

Marvel’s many projects seem to be taking over the geek corner of the internet these days, and with the relatively lukewarm response to Iron Man 2 a mere blip in the road to world domination there’s plenty more to come.

One of the most intriguing prospects ahead of us is Kenneth Branagh’s big screen adaptation of Thor, and the casting of Papa Kirk, Chris Hemsworth, alongside Anthony Hopkins and Natalie Portman elevated this one from a curio to a must see movie, and now the eagle eyes of Latino Review have found what they believe to be The Destroyer on set.

Essentially a magic suit of armour, The Destroyer is sent by Loki to defeat Thor, and there’s a detailed history of the character for Branagh and Marvel to plunder. Here’s a pic from Marvel for comparison.

As I’m not entirely au fait with the Thor comic book I’ll link to Marvel’s own in-depth history of the character, but if true this could prove to be a hell of an adversary for Thor. I cannot wait to see how Kenneth Branagh pits these two against each other.

During a promotional interview with MTV for new film Brothers (directed by six-time Academy Award nominee Jim Sheridan) Natalie Portman revealed that Kat Dennings (Defendor, The 40 Year Old Virgin) will be joining her onscreen in Kenneth Branagh’s live-action adaptation of Marvel’s Thor. When asked about the upcoming production, Portman said:

“Well I’m really excited. Kat Dennings is going to be in it with me and she’s a good friend and an amazing actress, so I’m looking forward to that.”

Dennings is the fifth new cast member revealed to be joining Thor in the past six days along with Idris Elba, Tadanobu Asano, Ray Stevenson, and Stuart Townsend. Unlike the others however, the character she will play has not yet been announced.

Thor is set to begin filming in January 2010 with a scheduled release date of May 20 2011.
