Here’s a rather surreal shot for a Friday morning but it amused me greatly and had to go up! It’s not often you’ll see two of the greatest 80s action stars in bed next to one another but today is the day to make it happen as Arnold Schwarzenegger posted a picture on WhoSay.com of himself and Sylvester Stallone in adjacent hospital beds after they ‘bumped’ into one another while waiting to be seen for shoulder injuries.

Schwarzenegger posted this fab photo with the accompanying text:

After all the action, stunts & physical abuse shooting The Expendables 2 and The Last Stand, it was time for a little tune up on my shoulder. Look who was coincidentally waiting in line behind me for his shoulder surgery. Now we’re ready for another round of great times and action when we shoot The Tomb. #greattobeback

As Schwarzenegger mentioned in the text, we’ll see  the pair of them in The Expendables 2 which hits cinemas in August.

I was literally about to hit the hay when I spotted an Expendables Facebook page (with a nod to MovieWeb) put up these three rather astonishing comic promotional images for the new movie. They show Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham and Scott Adkins, in comic form and I absolutely love them! I have no idea if these are official or not (I’m pretty sure they are not – let me know if I’m wrong) but thanks to however made them for doing something a little different and putting a smile on my face! If of course they are legit, kudos to Lionsgate for doing something a bit different with your marketing plans.

You know that meme about Chuck Norris? The ‘Chuck Norris facts’ meme I think they call it.

The one where there are a load of facts about Chuck Norris and people list them and laugh at them. The facts that make Chuck sound like some sort of malevolent God from the planet awesome. The facts that have been circulating the internet for so long and so loudly that even mentioning them is clichéd beyond credibility.

The ones that go like this:

• Chuck Norris’ tears cure cancer. Too bad he has never cried.
• Chuck Norris counted to infinity – twice.
• Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing.
• Chuck Norris has already been to Mars; that’s why there are no signs of life there.
• Chuck Norris doesn’t have a chin behind his beard. Just another fist.

You know, those facts. The ones that you hate me for recounting. God I’m ashamed of myself…

Well Chuck isn’t just some karate kicking cliché or some occasional brainless sex object there to be ironically lauded to the detriment of everyone who chooses to do so 6 years on from the facts’ inception. He’s a serious man. And will be treated as such thank you very much.

Yep, Chuck has had enough of the vulgarity that surrounds him and has made a stand with his latest appearance in The Expendables 2. Whereas the film is being pitched (as was the first) as a no-holds barred, violent, sweary, adult smash-fest of silly proportions, Chuck Norris in an interview with Polish site Gazeta has claimed that one of his conditions for signing up to the project was that the film clean up its act and cut out the hardcore swearing that Norris doth abhor so much in order to get a PG-13 rating. You know, for the kids:

In Expendables 2, there was a lot of vulgar dialogue in the screenplay. Fot this reason, many young people wouldn’t be able to watch this. But I don’t play in movies like this. Due to that I said I won’t be a part of that if the hardcore language is not erased. Producers accepted my conditions and the movie will be classified in the category of PG-13.

Well this all sounds very silly doesn’t it. If The Expendables 2 really was going for a PG-13 rating in the US then surely the language isn’t the only thing that would have to be toned down. Also since Norris surely doesn’t have that much sway in the grand scheme of things his requests will surely amount to nothing.

Even so, as a man of apparently strong moral convictions and with an internet fame that has now surely surpassed his status as a cult film star maybe it’s time that he made a stand against the ravages of two-dimensional fame. Good for you Chuck, although next time maybe don’t make a stand by starring in a film that is fundamentally defined by its R rating. I mean without blood and some fruity language what’s left? The ground breakingly nuanced performances?

Let’s face it, this could be a new promo image from The Expendables 2 but here we have a new image of Sylvester Stallone looking ridiculously toned in his new movie, Bullet to the Head courtesy of Vulture. Bear in mind, Stallone is now 65 years old! Craziness! I was going to say I hope I look like him when I’m 65 bt firstly, there’s no chance and secondly, I hope I don’t!

Based upon a Matz and Colin Wilson​ graphic novel Stallone plays Jimmy Bobo, a hitman who teams with a young NYPD detective (Sung Kang​) in a high-stakes investigation that leads from the dingy back alleys of New Orleans all the way to the power corridors of New Orleans. The unlikely duo, brought together by two vicious murders, take on all who stand in their way, and are willing to sacrifice everything to exact revenge.

Bullet to the Head Arrives in the UK on April 13th, is directed by Walter Hill and also stars Jason Momoa, Christian Slater, Sarah Shahi, Sung Kang and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje.

Never one to grow old gracefully Sly Stallone has smashed his way back into our collective consciousness this week, firstly by muscling his entire ensemble cast off of the poster for The Expendables 2 and then by giving us a peek at him apparently doing some sort of violent squat related workout in new film Bullet to the Head.

Making it his personal mission to show that even once you reach retirement age you don’t have to stop killing people, it’s looking like it’s going to be a big year for old Sly. Ever the hard worker it’s reported that since coming on board to star in Headshot under the directorial eye of Wayne Kramer he has completely overhauled the script himself whilst also finding time to change the title and indeed the director after he and Kramer had ‘creative differences’.

Now Walter Hill is at the helm of the good ship Bullet to the Head and all is looking ship-shape in this first full image from the film:

Despite a scant shortage of bullets many have taken the axe to axe still to be a nod to bonkers 1986 Stallone vehicle Cobra. A film so ridiculously over the top that it became somewhat of a cult classic. Here’s to hoping it is and that the final film turns out to be as knowingly facile as the plot makes it out to be.

Arriving in the UK on April 13th with a vintage mans man director at helm and an inexplicably buff (or explicably depending on your level of cynicism) Sly starring, Bullet to the Head looks to be quite the senior testostathon. Imagine Fight Club, just with more steroid abuse and sponsored by Werther’s Originals.

Eschewing the accepted convention of teasing a new trailer with the unveiling of a poster a few days beforehand The Expendables 2 is following its recent trailer with this new image of Stallone making his own inimitable impression on a nearby wall.

Those merry veterans of the movie web scene AICN were deigned hard enough to debut the poster and while it won’t win any design awards it’s a pretty fair indication of what to expect.

Sylvester Stallone leads a cast of Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Chuck Norris, Terry Crews, Randy Couture, Liam Hemsworth, Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger. So there’s something for everyone. As long as all anyone actually wants is a collection musclebound actors killing people.

Here it is people! The one you’ve all been waiting for! it’s the first official poster for The Expendables 2 and it packs some serious punch! The movie appears to have the title EX2. I Don’t know yet if that is the official title for the movie but we’ll keep you posted. Joining Sylvester Stallone on the poster are: Jean-Claude Van Damme Chuck Norris, Dolph Lundgren. Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Bruce Willis, and Terry Crews. Jet Li, Scott Adkins, Jet Li and Liam Hemsowrth also star in the movie but they didn’t make the cut on the poster!

The film should be with us August 2012.

In case you haven’t already heard, the sequel to last year’s all-star action blockbuster, The Expendables, has been increasing its cast and signing everyone who’s anyone in the martial arts/butt-kicking scene.

Last week, we got a look at Sylvester Stallone, who won’t be directing this time around, hanging out with Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger on the set of The Expendables 2.

We’ve now got a picture, courtesy of Collider, that shows of a few more cast members, most notably giving us our first look at the one and only Mr. Chuck Norris – the ‘Mr.’ because the man could destroy with his eyes, so it’s a good idea to be polite. Norris is of course renowned for his general awesomeness, and though I confess that I’ve never actually seen him act – don’t hate me – I am naturally a fan of many of the Chuck Norris jokes you hear every now and then. A personal favourite, via TheChuckNorrisFacts, being:

“Chuck Norris does not hunt because the word hunting infers the probability of failure. Chuck Norris goes killing.”

The sequel will be directed by Simon West (Con Air, The General’s Daughter), and along with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, and Willis, we should get to see Jason Statham, Jet Li, Liam Hemsworth, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Scott Adkins, and possibly John Travolta and Donnie Yen, who remain rumours at the moment. Essentially, more names than you can reasonably fit into one sentence (but I did it anyway).

Principal photography is clearly underway for The Expendables 2, with a release date currently scheduled for 17th August next year, making it quite possibly/probably 2012’s biggest summer blockbuster in terms of cast recognition. Schwarzenegger’s appearance alongside Stallone and Willis in the first Expendables film was a glorified cameo and didn’t have nearly as much impact as they all seemed to think it did. Frankly, I felt robbed and it is therefore with some gratitude that I hear that there may be a bit more of him this time around.

Yes, it’s sequel time and along with the rest of the returning cast, we should get a whole host of other action stars as well. So far, we know to expect Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li, Jason Statham, Sly, Scott Adkins, Chuck Norris (who apparently can win Connect 4 in three moves), Jean Claude Van Damme, Bruce Willis and possibly The Rock, Vin Diesel, John Travolta and Nic Cage. Crikey.

Rumour-mongering aside, we know that Sly, Willis and Arnie are on set, because we have this lovely photo to prove it. So there.

According to Deadline, up-and-coming Australian actor Liam (brother of Thor’s Chris) Hemsworth is joining the starry cast of action dinosaurs in The Expendables 2.

Hemsworth will team up with the original’s director/star (Con Air’s Simon West is welding the megaphone this time around) Sylvester Stallone, alongside Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews, Jet Li, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis and newcomers Chuck Norris and Jean-Claude Van Damme.

This piece of casting is certainly a shrewd move by the makers. Hemsworth is on the cusp of major stardom owing to one of the starring roles in the upcoming, hugely anticipated adaptation of the hit young-adult science fiction novel, The Hunger Games, which is due for release in the UK next March.

No word yet if his role in The Expendables sequel will be that of Stallone’s grandson, which the 21-year-old could feasibly play.

Here’s some rather welcome news at 23.40 on a Tuesday evening! While I’m sitting here waiting for the new Twilight trailer to drop, EW have just posted the news that Chuck Norris and Jean Claude van Damme have been confirmed for The Expendables 2 with Nicolas Cage on the wish-list. This news follows that of Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger are on board too.

In an interview with Sylvester Stallone who wrote, directed and starred in the original movie, he broke the news that Van Damme and Norris are confirmed and thinks that Cage will be appearing but it sounds like he wants to get a few more involved too including Michael Biehn and Michael Pare and maybe even John Travolta making it a nice Face Off reunion with Cage:

“We’ll have a big showdown between me and Van Damme, which has been anticipated for a long time, so it should be a good one”

“We’ve got Chuck Norris and I think Nic Cage. We’re trying to work out different scenarios. I like using people that had a moment and then maybe have fallen on some hard times and give them another shot. So we’re always looking for actors like Michael Biehn and Michael Pare. I like those kinds of guys. Someone did it for me and I like to see if I can do it for them. We also need some new blood in there, a Navy Seal-type, because with the Expendables none of them have 20-20 vision anymore. They need some help, man.”

I was desperate for Norris and Van Damme to appear to appear in the original 2009 movie but it looks like we had to wait a couple of years longer to see them. The addition of Cage could be cool and all I need to do now is work out how I can get on set! Now all we need is for Steven Seagal and Jackie Chan to sign on the dotted line and the line up is complete! Then again, we’ll need some more people for The Expendables 3 no doubt!

The movie is expected to be released August 2012 and shooting starts at the end of this month.

News continues to trickle in regarding the follow-up to the guilty pleasure (and frustrating waste of a golden opportunity) that was The Expendables. It looks as  though pretty much everyone who survived the first film is set to return, with a bit of added Chuck Norris and JCVD, if persistent internet rumours are to be believed.

Obviously Arnie and Bruce Willis cameoed in the first film, to mixed effect. This time around, director Simon West (ConAir, The General’s Daughter) looks set to give them a little more to do. Frankly, that must be a good move. Arnie hasn’t taken part in a decent action sequence in years and years, whereas Brucie has shown in more recent offerings like RED and Die Hard 4.0 that he still has fantastic action chops, so lobbing them all into some well-choreographed mayhem should be plenty of fun.

Filming is due to kick off in October 2011 for a summer 2012 release, so this should all start coming together pretty soon. Of course calling someone’s role “substantial” is very much eye of the beholder stuff, so we’ll have to wait and see whether we’re talking glorified cameos, or something a little more meaningful. I’d pay good money to see Willis, Arnie and Sly standing side by side, massive guns and rocket launchers in hand, levelling a city block, or an acre of Latin American jungle, but I’ll have to wait like the rest of you.

I recently caught up with what I had assumed would be the final instalment of John Rambo’s adventures, the imaginatively titled “Rambo”. Like pretty much everyone else that has seen it, I was profoundly disappointed and hoped it would be a final nail in the coffin rather than a set of jump-leads for an attempted resuscitation. It seems it was the latter. For shame.

News comes to us today that Sean Hood, who scripted the Conan reboot, has not only drafted but also submitted to Millennium Films a script for Rambo: Last Stand. Apparently it is based on some notes, an older screenplay and a book that were handed to Hood last year by Sly himself. Further clarifying details are sadly not forthcoming, although it has been confirmed that none of the other ideas that previously did the rounds (sci-fi, Mexican cartel, prequel) is under consideration here, rather an attempted return to the small-town context of the first film.

Hood is quoted as follows, showing an admirable mix of realism and aspiration:-

As of now, I don’t know whether Mr Stallone will actually do it. Right now, as I understand it, he has his hands full with Bullet to the Head and Expendables 2. But Millennium films did hire me to complete the screenplay and realise his story, and my hope is that he’ll eventually be inspired to do one more Rambo film, with the tone of Clint Eastwood’s Unforgiven.”

So what do you all think? Let sleeping dogs lie, wheel the leathery old vet out for one more round? I can’t see the point myself, but as Wesley Snipes once said in New Jack City, “Money talks, BS runs the marathon”. Which I’m sure is every bit as philosophical and inspirational as it sounds.

Casting rumours are beginning to circulate for the upcoming sequel to The Expendables, Sylvester Stallone’s surprise hit action movie from last year, and a couple of names (at least), are obvious choices to fans of 80’s tough-guy, martial artist cinema.

Members from the first film, Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis are being mentioned, alongside the kickboxing “Muscles from Brussels” Jean-Claude Van Damme and old-school favourite, Chuck Norris (now, shockingly, in his 71^st year on this planet!!!) He makes the rest of the crew look like a bunch of young, ineffectual punks by comparison.

John Travolta’s name has also cropped up, although he hardly possesses the hard-man credentials of many of these actors. Maybe he’ll perform a dance routine as a means of distracting the enemy while his macho peers do the dirty work.

All this is completely up in the air at the moment of course, but with the film stated for release next August (under the direction of Con Air’s Simon West), expect a locked-down cast list to appear pretty soon.

For the last decade or so, comedian Adam Sandler has built up a solid business empire with his production company, Happy Madison. Sandler’s own vehicles under that banner have been pretty much critic proof, and for the most part, (inexplicable, many would agree) have continued to bring in incredibly healthy box office takings with relative ease.

Zookeeper, the latest from that assembly line, falls into the more kiddie-orientated strand like 2008’s Bedtime Stories and it star’s Sandler regular Kevin James (also credited as co-writer here) as lovable, yet schlubbish zookeeper and all-round thoroughly caring chap, Griffin. The film opens with his disastrous marriage proposal to vacuous hottie, Stephanie (Leslie Bibb) and he’s left by himself on a beach with a mariachi band he’s hired to celebrate his big moment. Depressed and convinced the reason behind his (now) ex-girlfriend’s reluctance to tie the knot is his less-than-sexy job, he’s on the verge of quitting until one magical night, the animals he looks after reveal that they can actually talk. Working together, the zoo inhabitants intervene and cook up a plan to turn Griffin into a romantic hero and win back his lost love.

The most troubling aspect of the film which continually crops up is this – what kind of psychopath willingly accepts talking animals in such a casual manner and then, almost immediately following this revelation, agrees to be schooled in the way of cool by them!?!? With yet another figure from Sandler’s inner circle onboard as director (Frank Coraci) and boasting the filmmaker behind 2007’s brain-meltingly awful midlife crisis-cum-comic road movie, Wild Hogs, as one of the producers, this was hardly destined to be a future children’s classic, but at least they could have mined a couple of decent gags from it. Alas, that is not the case here, and when the animals out-act the human, you know you’re in big trouble.

The subtle use of real footage and CGI and to help bring the animals to life is actually pretty good, and the voice casting (for the most part) is fairly successful. Unsurprisingly, Sandler crops up playing a gobby and vulgar monkey, and resorts to using that familiar, over-the-top camp Hispanic-sounding accent (and manages to gain the film’s only real laugh), and both Sylvester Stallone as the hopelessly misogynous Joe the lion and Cher as his harassed lioness wife work well together. It’s a mild understatement to say that another star of yesteryear (Nick Nolte) fares less well. He plays the sullen and reclusive Gorilla, Bernie, who Griffin manages to coax out of his shell, and (prepare yourselves) sneaks out for a night of partying at TGI Fridays. What follows is a thoroughly painful montage of the two of them making complete fools of themselves, boozing it up and ogling the waitresses and female customers. All the while, James is performing against an actor in the kind of monkey suit that wouldn’t pass muster in an end-of-pier pantomime. Regardless of the demographic targeted here, modern cinema doesn’t get much more nightmarish than this. Adding to the wince-inducing awfulness, Nolte even starts talking with a horrendous Valspeak inflection as the night progresses. It’s the kind of performance which makes you wonder how long it will be before this once respected actor turns up in yet another police mugshot, looking like the most dishevelled human in the face of the earth. Depressing.

The animal scenes play out alongside a weirdly farcical emotional tug-of-war between Griffin and his ex, and even the zoo’s cool and level-headed vet (Rosario Dawson – sigh) agrees to help the tubby one on his quest, before realising she may have feelings for him (hey, it’s a fantasy film). None of this is amusing in the slightest and things get progressively duller and laboured until the wholly predictable (yet bizarrely action-packed) finale.

Throw in James doing his now customary fat man violently falling over routine and another small yet underwhelming and thoroughly annoying turn by Ken Jeung, and what you have is a tired, formulaic and charm-free entry into the Sandler catalogue, which is hardly an anomaly given the other material in there. Kids will even struggle here, and the sometimes engaging Dr. Doolittle-esque magical conceit of talking animals is not enough to redeem proceedings.

Sony Pictures’ new movie, Zookeeper hits UK cinemas 29th July and have sent over this exclusive featurette from the movie which stars Kevin James. The movie sees the Zoo come to life ansd includes a voice cast Cher, Nick Nolte, Adam Sandler, Sylvester Stallone and the movie is directed by Frank Corac.

Here’s what I believe is the third poster for Kevin James’ new movie, Zookeeper. Apparently he was doing the junket for the movie at London Zoo late last week which sounds fab… except we weren’t invited.

This evening is going rather nuts. First there is news that Russell Crowe may play Jor-El in Zack Snyder’s Superman: Man of Steel and now we see that Simon West (Con Air, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The General’s Daughter) will direct The Expendables 2! The Expendables was a bringing together of both 80s and 90s ‘hard men’ to create a throw back to all the movies that we know and loved from the two decades. Sylvester Stallone wrote, directed and starred in the first movie and ever since, we’ve speculated on who might direct the second and now we know.

Deadline have broken the news and also tell us that Sylvester Stallone, Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Terry Crews and Jet Li are all expected to be back for the second installment. Let’s hope that Steven Seagal and Jean Claude van Damme appear this time along with larger roles for Arnold Schwarzenegger (personal life allowing!) and Bruce Willis.
