Here’s the first trailer for Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum’s new movie, The Vow which heads to the right in time for Valentine’s Day. The movie is directed by Michael Sucsy co-stars include Jessica Lange, Scott Speedman and Sam Neill and will be with us in the UK 10th February.

After a car accident puts McAdams’s Paige into a coma and leaves her with no memory of her husband or their marriage, Tatum’s Leo must woo his wife and her heart for the second time. The romantic drama is based on the true story of New Mexico couple, Kim and Krickitt Carpenter, who are struck by tragedy shortly after their wedding.

We got the first official trailer and poster for the upcoming romantic drama, The Vow, back in June, and it took me a little by surprise by how good it looked. Emmy Award- and Golden Globe-winning writer-director Michael Suscy is making his feature debut, with a pretty solid cast led by Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Channing Tatum (Dear John), with support from Jessica Lange (Big Fish), Scott Speedman (Underworld), and Sam Neill (Jurassic Park).

We’ve now got another new poster to share with you, courtesy of IMP Awards, and it’s pretty much what you might expect, pandering a little to those that might go weak at the knees at the sight of Channing Tatum.

It looks like it captures the romance of the film pretty nicely though, which is of course a good thing. I’ll be interested to see if the film’s posters that are still to come will show off its more dramatic sides too, because the trailer certainly gives a good impression of doing well with both the romantic and the dramatic elements.

The Vow is due out here in the UK on 10^th February, the weekend before Valentine’s Day, which is naturally the ideal weekend for a film like this to be released. It does look like it won’t just be a run-of-the-mill ‘We have to put out a romantic film just because it’s Valentine’s Day’ film, and I have to admit that it has me fairly interested. Rachel McAdams and Channing Tatum are both really talented, and have been deservedly gaining more attention over the years, and it will be good to see them starring opposite each other in this. Without further ado, here’s the new poster to enjoy.

Fans of the Jurassic Park trilogy will already be glued to their newly released Blu-ray boxset and following our interview with Ariana Richards at the start of the week we’ve got another interview with someone who, less directly, was also partially responsible for the films.

Filmbeat travelled to Montana to speak with the man who inspired the character of Alan Grant in the Jurassic Park trilogy, Paleotologist Jack Horner. He was also a lead technical adviser for the films. He’s the kind of guy you want doing the commentary for the films and he seems pleased that his work inspired thousands of kids to take up the spade*.

Universal Studios have give us this fantastic exclusive featurette to coincide with the Blu-ray release of the greatest dinosaur movie ever made, Jurassic Park. The Blu-ray is released in the UK 24th October. Jurassic Park for me is an all-time classic and I love everything about it. It was ground-breaking on so many levels and I’m so pleased it’s making its way to Blu-ray packed to the rafters with special features (all of which are listed below).

One of those special features is this featurette focusing on the music in Jurassic Park with the title ‘A Whole New Level’. John Williams provides the score for the film and in the featurette, all the sound effects have been stripped to let you see simply the score that plays during a few select scenes. One of those scenes is the raptor kitchen scene which is on the list for one of the most intense scenes ever devised in my opinion! The feature has interviews with John Williams and Joseph Mazzello who both talk about the intensity of the score in the movie. Scroll down and have a watch!

Known as a novelist first and foremost, author and debut film-maker Julia Leigh wanted to ask the question, what would it be like to be a ‘sleeping beauty’, after reading two novellas by Yasunari Kawabata and Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

Officially selected at Cannes 2011, Leigh’s film, Sleeping Beauty, is a haunting portrait of Lucy (played by Emily Browning), a young university student drawn into the mysterious hidden world of beauty and desire. Lucy takes a job as a Sleeping Beauty, where drugged, Lucy must be absolutely submissive to the erotic desires of old men. But her work starts to bleed into her daily life as she develops an increasing need to find out what happens to her when she is asleep.

Julia tells us about the origins of her ideas, Jane Campion’s involvement, and working with Emily Browning, how a certain scene shocked her, and gives her reaction to the label by some of Sleeping Beauty being merely ‘exploitation porn’. 

HeyUGuys: Where did the ideas for Sleeping Beauty come from?

Julia Leigh: For me, the question of inspiration is always an exercise in hindsight because in truth, it’s completely mysterious to me why something arises? There are a number of things, of course the classic fairy tale. I had read and really loved two novellas by Kawabata and Garcia Marquez, which are stories told from the point of view of older men who pay to sleep next to drugged girls. In the Bible, King David sends out to sleep the night alongside sleeping virgins. There are sleeping girls on the Internet. So Sleeping Beauty was out there already as a concept. On a more personal note, after my novel The Hunter came out, I did have a recurring nightmare of being filmed in my sleep, and it was quite compelling because you dream you are asleep in your own bed when you are asleep in your own bed, so it’s very hard to know what’s a dream and what’s reality. I did start to think we are all vulnerable in our sleep, and it’s almost as though we like to forget that. I started to think what it would be like to know something not very good happened to you, and how would that seep down into your waking life and destabilise you.

HUG: You said you set out to make a film where audiences would say ‘Did I really see that?’ Did you set out to shock audiences with this?

JL: I didn’t because I didn’t think that far ahead. There was nothing at all calculating about it, so I can’t say I had an intention to shock.

HUG: How easy was it to get people interested in the script beforehand, and then after Jane Campion got involved?

JL: At one point the script was on the Hollywood ‘Black List’, a list of un-produced screenplays in Hollywood that often do go on to be made into films. People were aware of it. But it didn’t get made in America – and I didn’t want it to. In Australia we’ve got a really good public funding system. The principle investor in this film was Screen Australia, the funding body, and it was this body that introduced me to Jane Campion, and wisely they thought it would be good for me to have a mentor figure – someone who I could ask questions of. Jane read he script. I held my breath. Thankfully she responded to it and she agreed to come on board. She was around for most of pre-production and she was away during the shoot – I always knew that would be the case. She came back in post and I showed her an early cut. She did suggest some trims but did give encouragement that we were on the right track. That was incredible comfort to me at that time. Since then she has continued to be incredibly generous we the support of the film.

HUG: How cathartic was the actual film-making process in allowing you to visual get your ideas across?

JL: The script developed a little bit during production because you always have those exergies that you have to deal with. First of all I couldn’t afford to worry or to look down in any way. I just decided to be very vigilant about all the small things. I felt that if I held the line through production then my leap of faith was if I created these conditions then something good would come of it.

HUG: You did a long ‘director’s treatment’ describing each scene in detail. Were there any scenes that when actually acted out in front of you affected you more than expected?

JL: One of the more confronting scenes in the Sleeping Beauty Chamber involving Man 2 (the sadist) and Lucy, we did a lot of preparation, including with my DoP, because the style of the film with its longer takes and the camera as the steady witness, meant that we had to really marry the camera to the performance that was unfolding. We did a little rehearsal with a home video camera and a bed with a husband and wife couple that I know. I had to think about how long to stay in a scene, and how to maintain the pace of the film that we did as we were making it. When we were doing this first run, I did call cut pretty early because it was hard for me to watch too. But then I had to sort of still myself and become unflinching.

HUG: You said you picked up some character mannerisms during the filming period – what did you mean by that?

JL: When you’re in the edit, you see things over and over and over and over again, and you hear lines over and over, so it’s easy to. I can’t give you an example.

HUG: Was there anything Emily who plays Lucy was a little dubious about doing?

JL: I think she was concerned that I’d actually ask her… I don’t want to spoil the magic of the first scene! So I think she might have been concerned about this and what I was asking her to do, but she had no cause to worry.

HUG: Emily told us she actual felt more comfortable with no clothes on.

JL: Oh great, I love her [laughs]. She’s so great and you know what, I recognise I was very lucky to work with her. My life could have been very different

HUG: Some will see Sleeping Beauty as ‘exploitation porn’. What do you say to that, and what do you hope audiences will discover from watching it?

JL: This film has already received many different responses. Some people really love it, and then again it’s not for others. I’m aware of that and that’s fine by me. I have zero control over how people feel about the film, so I don’t feel I have to defend the film at all. My hope is that this film does allow the audience to use their own imagination. It is a memorable film.

HUG: As a female watching it with males, some were shocked that a female would produce such a film showing a female being exploited. How do you find that?

JL: Really? Why were they so easily shocked? I think this is good. I think you should write about it. I think I’m a step ahead of that game, the question of exploitation, but it is something I’m aware of.

HUG: Were there any scenes that didn’t make the final cut?

JNL: There were a couple of scenes that just showed Lucy in her everyday life that for technical reasons didn’t work. But it’s pretty faithful to the original script. We did drop some scenes, which I was amazed by, as it was a pretty short script, like Lucy walking along in an alley, for example. We did not lose anything from the Chamber world or the Sleeping Beauty world.

HUG: How do you describe Lucy’s relationship with Birdmann?

JL: They are really close friends, and I guess they’re both people who refuse to be well adjusted, if you like, so they’re kind of a safe harbour for one another. I remember in my early twenties, the friendships that I formed then were very intense, close friendships. It’s maybe because you’ve left home and you’ve left the strictures of compulsory education and you’re trying to find your own way in the world and our ‘own folk’ if you like. I do think those friendships are very important; hence Lucy and Birdmann are very close friends.

HUG: You’ve now had a taste of film-making. Any more plans to make more films, say adapting one of your own novels?

JL: I would love to. The Hunter has just been made into a film by Daniel Nettheim, starring Willem Dafoe, Sam Neill and Frances O’Connor that premiered at Toronto Film Festival this year, and just opened on Thursday in Australia – I think it will be released here (UK) later. I’m friends with Daniel and the producer Vincent Sheehan, but I chose not to read the script or attend cuts, so I just saw it at the premiere. In terms of my other films that I could adapt, I’d have to think about it. I do want to continue making films, though.

HUG: Are you working on anything at the moment?

JL: I do have a couple of secret things [smiles] but I’m not telling…

Overall, the first film’s sense of awe and almost stately contemplation of its own visual splendour are replaced with a more visceral style and darker tone, as the raptors and rexes attack with a predatory ferociousness more reminiscent of Aliens than Godzilla. Last week, we were über excited to see the new that Universal Studios will be releasing Jurassic Park back into UK cinemas! 23rd September is the date you’re going to be wanting to head down to your local cinema to get a fix of one of the greatest movies made in the past 20 years.

Steven Spielberg’s classic is being re-released in cinemas to celebrate the Blu-ray release of the movie which follows on October 24th. The film has been completely remastered and if the conversion of Back to the Future this time last year is anything to go by, it’s going to be a rather amazing viewing experience!

We put up the trailer last week but it was in rubbish standard definition so I got in touch with Universal and asked them to send over the trailer in HD which they have very kindly done so, without further ado, here’s the Jurassic Park Trailer in full (nearly! – 1080p) high definition!

I think I may have actually felt a little bit of wee come out earlier when we heard the news that the legendary legends (!) from Universal Studios have decided to bring Jurassic Park back to the cinema! They did it with Back to the Future and it as one of the best cinematic experiences I’ve ever had!

We were all geared up for the Blu-ray release but not we find out that it’s coming back to the cinema. I don’t usually like putting up press releases in full because they can often be boring BUT anything to do with Jurassic Park being remastered and coming to the big screen is far from boring! SYNOPSIS

When we went image crazy a couple of days ago, a couple of images we failed to put up were those from Willem Dafoe’s new movie, The Hunter which is playing at this years Toronto International Film Festival.

The film is directed by Daniel Nettheim and as well as Dafoe, stars Sam Neill, Frances O’ConnorSullivan Stapleton, Dan Wyllie, Callan Mulvey, Jacek Koman and Morgana Davies. The movie is based on the novel by Julia Leigh.

TIFF provide the plot:

Based on the acclaimed novel by Julia Leigh, THE HUNTER is a powerful psychological drama that tells the story of Martin (Willem Dafoe), a mercenary sent from Europe by a mysterious biotech company to the Tasmanian wilderness on a dramatic hunt for the last Tasmanian Tiger.

Jurassic Park, Steven Spielberg‘s prehistoric opus, along with it’s two sequels, is set to début on Blu-ray – now at least 65 million years in the offing.

The Digital Bits (via /Film) have allegedly confirmed with Universal Pictures that the franchise – consisting of two Steven Spielberg films and Joe Johnson’s criminally underrated second sequel – will land on Blu-ray some time in 2012.

With another sequel rumoured, however – providing Spielberg can OK a script, Johnson is apparently enthusiastic to direct – it is unlikely this will be the definitive collection.

Whatever the future holds, the franchise has a lot to offer and will likely prove a welcome addition to the Blu-ray medium. Although unofficial at best, Blu-ray.com have hinted at the potential packaging.

So, will you be returning to Jurassic Park?

Screen Gems have unveiled the first official trailer and poster for upcoming romantic drama The Vow.

Directed by Michael Sucsy (Grey Gardens), The Vow stars Rachel McAdams (Morning Glory), Channing Tatum (Dear John), Sam Neill (The Piano), Scott Speedman (The Strangers), Wendy Crewson (Away from Her) and Jessica Lange (Big Fish).

A newlywed couple (McAdams and Tatum) recovers from a car accident that puts the wife in a coma. Waking up with severe memory loss, her husband endeavors to win her heart again.

The Vow will be released in the UK on February 10, 2012.

J.J. Abrams, who seemingly loves a good mystery more than anyone else on the planet, is behind yet another “what the devil is going on here then?” show, due to start up in the US in the autumn/fall.

This time around, the launching-off point for the show is that when Alcatraz closed in the 1960′s, it because all of the inmates disappeared suddenly, rather than them having been transferred to other facilities, as was claimed at the time. Now, the disappearing inmates are starting to return, they haven’t aged a day and someone is pulling the strings towards no doubt nefarious ends. Certainly it’s a doozy of an idea and if the new trailer is anything to go by, there are plenty of great elements at work here, not least Sam Neill, ditching the good-natured fatherliness of Jurassic Park in favour of the unbalanced edginess of Event Horizon. Here is someone who is clearly up to no good.

I suppose the issue here is not so much whether it looks interesting, but rather whether it has staying power. After 24 shot to fame, all manner of high-concept shows tried there hand and they all (such as Boomtown) floundered. Off the back of the beguiling mystery of Lost (which stretched the patience of the most loyal of its followers), we were given Flash Forward (which was canned after one season) and recent arrival The Event, which has shifted in the UK schedule from a prime time slot (9:00pm) to the graveyard shift (midnight).

Interestingly and tellingly, the article on Gordon and the Whale states that the mystery will begin to unravel next year, which seems like a tacit admission that the audience’s patience for long drawn out teasing mystery is beginning to wane. For the time being though, enjoy the impressive and anticipation-whetting trailer.

Acclaimed filmmaker Zack Snyder makes his animation debut with the fantasy family adventure LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS: THE OWLS OF GA’HOOLE which is out on 22^nd October. The film follows Soren, a young owl enthralled by his father’s epic stories of the Guardians of Ga’ Hoole, a mythic band of winged warriors who had fought a great battle to save all of owlkind from the evil Pure Ones.

While Soren dreams of someday joining his heroes, his older brother, Kludd, scoffs at the notion, and yearns to hunt, fly and steal his father’s favor from his younger sibling. But Kludd’s jealousy has terrible consequences—causing both owlets to fall from their treetop home and right into the talons of the Pure Ones. Now it is up to Soren to make a daring escape with the help of other brave young owls.  Together they soar across the sea and through the mist to find the Great Tree, home of the legendary Guardians—Soren’s only hope of defeating the Pure Ones and saving the owl kingdoms.

The film features the voices of Emily Barclay, Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Ryan Kwanten, Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren, Sam Neill, Geoffrey Rush, Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving and David Wenham.

Zack Snyder was named as the new director of Superman last night which is wonderful timing for his new movie, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole which has it’s UK premiere this coming Sunday, 10th October. The movie features a voice cast which includes Sam Neill, Miriam Margolyes, Helen Mirren Hugo Weaving, Geoffrey Rush, David Wenham and Jim Sturgess.

In amongst the many, many clips and trailers that have already seen the light of day from Zack Snyder’s CG owl film, Legend of the Guardians, there is still more footage Warner Bros. are keen to push out to get people interested ahead of the film’s release.

Snyder’s film features the voices of Abbie Cornish, Emilie de Ravin, Geoffrey Rush and Jim Sturgess, who we get to hear in this clip, learning to fly in the middle of a monsoon.

Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’hoole is out in the US in two weeks, and the UK has to wait until the 11th of October to see this one – and when Gary saw fifteen minutes of the 3D footage he was won over.

We were treated to a fifteen minute preview of Zack Snyder’s CG owl epic Legend of the Guardians recently and the treats on show made a convert out of our man Gary, and these new TV spots give us a series of brief peeks further into Snyder’s family friendly CG world.

You’ve probably seen the trailers, posters and all the rest of the marketing for this film, and these TV spots offer  much the same. It’s still looking like Lord of the Rings with owls but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

It looks gorgeous, it’s still a little odd to see owls talking but with the second spot in particular appealing directly to kids I think Snyder’s film will do very well indeed at the box office.

The US get this in a month’s time and we in the UK are grounded until the 15th of October.

This is the new movie from Zack Snyder and this new featurette ties in nicely with the fifteen minutes of footage that we saw yesterday. After the unveiling of the bombastic fetishism of Sucker Punch it’s time to tone things down for this slice of Zack Snyder.

His big screen 3D CG adaptation of Kathryn Lasky’s Guardians of Ga’hoole will be hitting screens in the US on the 24th of September and so far we’ve seen some pretty impressive trailers and character posters full of, well, character and now there’s a new poster out in the wild.

Here’s the poster, which aims to smack you around the face with its charm.

IMP Awards have got eight brand new character posters for the new Zack Synder movie, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.

Legend of the Guardians is a movie based around the series of books by Kathryn Lasky called Guardians of Ga’hoole. Legend of the Guardians has a voice cast which includes Emilie de Ravin, Abbie Cornish, Hugo Weaving, Helen Mirram, Geoffrey Rush, Sam Neill and Jim Sturgess.

Legend of the Guardians is scheduled for release 15th October.
