Let’s get the obligatory nostalgia out of the way early. If you don’t want to read my rose tinted reminiscing, please feel free to skip the following paragraph.

I was ten when Jurassic Park came out, and I loved it. For an entire summer I was completely obsessed – I went back to the cinema over and over to watch it, and filled my bedroom with countless toys, games and assorted merchandise (much of which I still own). For the last 18 years I’ve been itching to see the film at a cinema again, so I’m sure I don’t really need to go into detail about how much I enjoyed myself when I finally did earlier this week.

It’s interesting that, even accounting for the nostalgia factor, Jurassic Park is still a great film. The pre-credits sequence, where delivery of a new raptor goes horribly wrong sets the tone for the film perfectly, and watching a man being eaten by an unseen monster, while Bob Peck screams “Shoot her!” certainly hasn’t grown old in the 18 years since the film’s release. In fact, all of the tense moments hold up well, and in spite of now living in a world where jump-scares and gore are the norm, the slowly ramped up tension of Jurassic Park remains as effective as ever.

The effects work has also stood the test of time well. A few of the CGI shots look a little ropey, particularly when Alan stands in front of the Brachiosaurs, and in the scene where the Gallimimus* are running from the T-Rex, but most of it either looks great, or passes without being at all noticeable. What’s particularly interesting, and something of a surprise now, is how much of the effects work is practical. Nearly all the close-ups feature parts of, if not whole dinosaurs built by Stan Winston’s SFX team, leaving only 6 minutes in the whole film that relied upon digital dinos. Unsurprisingly, these practical effects are as stunning now as they ever were – perhaps more so given the rarity of physical creature effects in modern filmmaking.

Looking more dated than the tech used to make the film is the science and technology used in the film. Apart from the non-existence of the internet, mobile phones and satellite phones, the big, chunky computer monitors, and DOS-based computer displays seem very odd now, although not as odd as Lex’s excitement when she finds out that the Jeeps have “an interactive CD-ROM” – a moment that elicited nostalgic sighs from everyone in the audience over 25, and confused whispers of “what’s a CD?” from everyone younger.

What’s really surprising is how the quaint the scientific ideas seem. In the two decades since the film’s initial release, we’ve had somewhere in the region of 2,976,342 documentaries on the possibility of reviving dinosaurs using cloning, all spurred by Jurassic Park’s massive success first time round. Consequently the on screen explanations of the idea have lost some of their impact. It’s also worth noting that, since the film’s release, Alan Grant’s contention that dinosaurs evolved into birds has now become much more accepted among palaeontologists, which makes his character seem a bit less of a maverick scientist, and a bit more like the smartest man in the room. That said, regardless of the current scientific orthodoxy, I refuse to believe that Velociraptors were anything other than 9 foot tall scaly monsters.

Regardless of all of this, though, the film really is excellent, and the cinema is absolutely the best place for it. Jurassic Park may well look OK on DVD, and maybe even stunning on Blu-Ray, but the only way to really get the full effect of watching a 40 ft tall dinosaur brought back to life is to see it on the biggest screen you can possibly find. Take this chance to do so, you never know when it’ll come round again.

Jurassic Park is back in cinemas throughout the UK now.

****~ (4/5)

*I’m not sure of the plural form of Gallimimus, if anyone knows, please feel free to advise me in the comments.

It seems to be the way things are going now but to be honest, I can’t really blame the studios for re-releasing classic movies back into cinemas. After seeing Back to the Future earlier in the year, and it becoming one of my all-time best cinematic experiences, I am well up for them putting movies that I’ve loved for so long back into the cinemas – especially ones that I missed as I was too young to see them the first time round!

I’ve mentioned BTTF above, next up we have Jurassic Park then only yesterday found out that Top Gun was coming back to the cinema and now we hear via a press release from Park Circus Films that Ghostbusters is set to get a remastered re-release in October over the Halloween period. Ghostbusters was released in 1984 and again my parents weren’t up for taking their four year old son along to see such a great movie but in 2011, I will get my chance!

Ghostbusters stars Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Sigourney Weaver, Harold Ramis, Annie Potts, Rick Moranis and is directed by Ivan Reitman.

The press release is below and I’ve also placed the original trailer for your viewing pleasure!

In an all-new Digital Cinema Presentation, 80′s cult classic GHOSTBUSTERS is back to save the world this Halloween.

Directed by Ivan Reitman and starring Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd and Sigourney Weaver, the film is about a trio of university parapsychologists in New York, who lose their research grant and decide to open their own business, ‘Ghostbusters’. They are soon summoned to investigate strange happenings in a Central Park West flat and discover that all of Manhattan is being besieged by other worldly demons. But will they manage to capture all the ghosts and save the Big Apple in time?

As well as boasting an impressive cast list, this much-loved sci-fi comedy is remembered for its selection of imaginative ghost effects – in particular ‘Slimer’ and the ‘Stay-Puft Marshmallow Man’.

On its original release in 1984, the film was a hit with both audiences and critics. It won a BAFTA Award (Best Original Song) for Ray Parker Jr.’s theme tune and was also nominated for two Academy Awards (Best Effects – Visual Effects, Best Music – Original Song).

GHOSTBUSTERS will be back in cinemas worldwide this October.

Tom Hooper’s film has waltzed through awards season winning accolades for its stars, directors, screenwriters and the film itself, and in order to capitalise on this success the film has been re-edited in the States, taking out the more offensive language and gaining a new, box-office friendly PG-13 rating.

The debate will rage on and on, but this new poster, found by our friends at Best For Film, sets the new tone nicely.

Which immediately richochets off of the cultural consciousness and suggests this moment from a true family classic,

The moments which affected me most in Tom Hooper’s film were the bedtime story with the princesses, or the quiet beakdown before the storm – and it has a huge heart. I’m also extrememly pleased that more people will be enticed into seeing the film, but I can’t help but feel Tom Hooper and David Seilder’s film has been compromised in order to make money.

Offensive language and censorship is a big part of cinematic culture and we are seeing boundaries shift back and forward for social or economic reasons and new version of The King’s Speech will make even more money and prove that re-editing a film is a viable commerical option, even if it plays merry hell with artisitic integrity.

And if you’re really annoyed just make a slight adjustment to the poster when you see it.

Having expressed his dismay at the BBFC’s apparent double standards when it comes to the treatment of profanity, Cole couldn’t quite grasp how the swearing in his own Made In Dagenham had earnt it a 15 rating, while The (similarly sweary) King’s Speech escaped with a measly 12A.

America’s MPAA were less lenient, however, lumbering the movie with a hard R-rating on account of the naughty language. Worried about the impact this decision might have on the film’s box office, the Weinstein Co. have opted to release a new PG-13 in the hopes of attracting a wider audience – the new cut set for release in 1,000 screens.

While such a re-release would usually have to wait 90 days from when the old version was pulled from cinemas, however, THR are reporting that ex-MPAA chair Bob Pisano and NATO president John Fithian have signed a waiver which will allow the PG-13 version to be released in quicker succession – a decision which pleased TWC’s president of theatrical distribution – Eric Lomis – greatly.

“We are thankful to the MPAA for their wisdom and swift action in approving the release of The King’s Speech PG-13 version.”

With the Weinstein Co. preparing to head a marketing campaign to explain the changes to America’s movie-going public, the new version will feature a number of muted “fuck”‘s, and a few instances in which “shit” has been substituted in instead.

Do you know the “f” word? Shit? Of course.

Seeing the original film twenty-five years ago was one of my formative cinematic experiences and recently Dave and I had a sneak preview of the film on the big screen and it was a triumphant return for a film that has more than stood the test of time.

Creator, producer and co-writer of the series Bob Gale is still passionate about the trilogy and we got the chance to talk to the man whose chance discovery of his Dad’s high school yearbook provided the spark for one of the most endearing and enduring films of recent years.

HeyUGuys

It must be exciting having Back to the Future coming back into the cinemas.

Bob Gale

I tell you…I saw the movie projected eight days ago and it looks so good, so much better than it did in 1985. When they did the remastering for the Blu-ray they spent over 400 hours doing dirt cleanup, and almost another 200 hours doing colour correction, so the movie looks better than it ever did. You have the print going through the projector, it picks up dirt, gets scratched and with the digital technology these guys fixed almost all of that stuff, and it just looks breathtaking.

HeyUGuys

I saw the trailer [for the Back to the Future re-release] in the cinemas recently and got chills, I remember seeing it in 1985 and it was a seminal moment for me, I can still play Johnny B. Goode on guitar because of the film…

Bob Gale

…Well we’ve got people trying to invent hoverboards, Nike just patented the self-lacing shoes…

HeyUGuys

And people talk about it with such love. Having been the creator of all this, what do you attribute this love of the film to?

Bob Gale

Well, it was a perfect convergence of a fantastic script, of an outstanding, perfect cast, Bob Zemeckis’ great skill – all that stuff came together and at its heart it is a very human, emotional story. Past all the trappings of the special effects and the gimmicks and the action, it is a tender story about a kid and his parents. And there’s a moment we all have in our lives when we are children where we suddenly understand that our parents were children too, and that’s kind of a cosmic moment that everybody experiences, and to my knowledge no-one had ever done a movie about that. Not every joke translates into every language but that core aspect of the story that we’re all in control of our own destiny, I think that all comes together and it’s something that really touched me.

HeyUGuys

There’s a real Twilight Zone feel to the first film in particular, were you a fan of science fiction of that era?

Bob Gale

Oh, Bob Zemeckis and I were both huge Twilight Zone fans. That experience you had watching Back to the Future when you were a kid, I was having those kinds of experiences watching The Twilight Zone every week and Zemeckis too. Another movie that affected us was George Pal’s The Time Machine, so I was a huge science fiction fan, so Ray Bradbury – he helped warp my mind. So, it’s really cool for me to hear from people who say that my work did for them what The Twilight Zone or what Ray Bradbury or Robert Heinlein did for me, it’s great.

HeyUGuys

As a kid, I really enjoyed the action and adventure elements of the film, but there are deeper, more subversive elements and the idea at play. Did you have to compromise those at all to get the film made?

Bob Gale

No, no – we didn’t compromise anything. The movie was rejected over forty times, nobody wanted to make the movie. The time travel aspect was something people were scared off because no time travel movie had ever been a hit and while there was a very nice, sweet comedy – they wanted to do raunchier comedies, so they told us to take it to Disney. So, we heard this half a dozen times or more and finally we were out of studios and Bob and I shrugged and said ‘What the hell, let’s take it to Disney…’ So we did and the executives looked at us like we were out of our minds! They said, ‘Are you guys insane? There are kids…and the Mother in the car…We’re Disney! We can’t touch that. That’s insane.’

HeyUGuys

Just for curiousity’s sake it would be great to see what Disney would have made of the film!

Bob Gale

[Laughs] No it wouldn’t!

HeyUGuys

With the success of the first film, a sequel was inevitable and the final scene suggests you were thinking of that too?

Bob Gale

No, no no no. The end of the first movie is a joke, ‘There’s something that’s got to be done about your kids!’ It’s funny, and the characters get in the DeLorean and go off to another adventure, like the cowboys riding off into the sunset. If we had known if we were going to do a sequel, let alone two sequels, we NEVER would have put Jennifer in the car because they we had to figure what we were going to do with Jennifer! So, she gets knocked out! She’s unconscious for the two movies!

HeyUGuys

When the sequels came up for discussion did you have certain ideas you wanted to explore?

Bob Gale

Here’s what happened – when the studio said they wanted a sequel we had certain parameters. As long as we had Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd we will figure out a sequel – we didn’t know what it would be, but those guys have to be locked in. And we had to go back and get the rest of the cast and they all said yes, except for Crispin Glover. So we had Marty, Doc, Lea Thompson and Thomas Wilson had said Yes, so that was instrumental in saying ‘Wouldn’t it be interesting to create an alternate world of 1985 where Geroge McFly is a tombstone and Lorraine is married to Biff?’ It’s like those Superman comics where Lois Lane is married to Lex Luthor so it was those limitations and those elements that we had to balance.

HeyUGuys

The story of Back to the Future centres around Marty but as the trilogy goes along it seems Doc Brown is at the heart of the story – his ambition, his flawed successes and then, at the end, finding true happiness – would you agree with this, or is this Marty’s story?

Bob Gale

The first is really George McFly’s story if you think about it. He’s the character that undergoes the big character arc, and part of the success is how well drawn the characters are and we thought it would be interesting if Marty and Doc changed places. So in the third movie Marty is the one giving Doc advice – he says ‘We don’t belong here,’ and ‘What’s the right thing to do in your brain, not your heart’ and it is represented where Marty says ‘Great Scott!’ and Doc says ‘This is heavy…’

HeyUGuys

We’re five years away from Jaws 19 and sequels and remakes are doing better business than ever, putting the talk of remakes aside for a moment I believe you’re moving into the video game arena?

Bob Gale

The video game thing is an interesting avenue for us to explore alternate Back to the Future realities – and the budget is obviously a whole lot less than it would take to make a new movie, so it’s a way of giving the real fans something new about Back to the Future which we hope will be in the spirit of the three movies.

HeyUGuys

So, these are all new stories?

Bob Gale

Yeah. We’re not talking about a remake, we’re not talking about a reboot, no Part 4, no 3D, no re-imagining of it…

HeyUGuys

No part for Justin Bieber?

Bob Gale

Oh God! Every once in a while those rumours go round…

HeyUGuys

I think it’s because Back to the Future is the exception where no-one is interested in seeing a remake, people may want to see more of it, but in the middle of these, predominently 80s, remakes going on at the moment, Back to the Future stands up as something which people don’t want to see touched.

Bob Gale

We’ve been so vociferous in interviews about it that people don’t even ask now. ‘No’ really means no. If we changed our minds they’d all be on us like a cheap suit…It’s laziness, in my opinion, that Hollywood is remaking or redoing everything. Wouldn’t it be better to do some original stuff? We’ve all seen those sequels where they’ve gone back to the well one too many times, I’m not going to mention any names… We all know what they are… Has there ever been a sequel made more than ten years after the original installment that really held a candle to the original – I can’t think of an example.

HeyUGuys

And what’s next?

Bob Gale

Beyond the video game stuff, I’m writing scripts but the problem of Hollywood not being so receptive to original ideas and that’s what I like to do. That why I was so delighted that Inception was such a big hit – I had some problems with the movie, but it was original and audiences want that. Maybe having Back to the Future back in the cinemas will lead people to think they need to make something original. Or maybe they’ll just think, ‘Oh MAN! We gotta REMAKE this!’

We want to thank Bob Gale for his time speaking to us.

Since this opportunity won’t be coming around again any time soon, we want to make the most of of it. Many of the writers on HeyUGuys.co.uk love Back to the Future and we wanted to bring you some of the reasons why, along with the experiences that we’ve had with the movie, and talk about how it affected us and what is it about this film that makes us all warm inside when we think about it.

Keep you eyes peeled on HeyUGuys for loads more Back to the Future stuff coming up in the next few days.

You can keep track of all the stories and coverage including the new HD re-release trailer here.

————————–

My relationship with Back to the Future has always been a very meaningful one. I’ve always called it my second favourite movie after ‘The Goonies’ but as I get older I’m finding it hard to be disloyal to either of these iconic 80s childhood flicks. The first time I saw BTTF was when I was about 10 years old and that’s when Michael J Fox officially became my first celebrity crush. Which little girl didn’t fall in love with him… that’s what I want to know! Who didn’t want to have an uber-cool friend like Marty McFly to hang out with? And who in their right mind could possibly NOT love Doc Brown and his crazy ways? I bet you can’t find many naysayers about this film.

A friend introduced me to this movie via a dodgy VHS copy. The version I’d fallen in love with didn’t have “To be Continued” at the end… it just simply ended. I often wondered what further adventures Doc Brown and Marty would go onto have and it wasn’t until a few years later when friends started telling me there’d be a sequel – I thought they were nuts! Mental. Complete buttheads! The arguments we had about “To Be Continued” being on their VHS copy versus the one I had…. It was only when I was older that I realised I’d been given a very naughty pirated cinema recording of the movie which ended without those 3 epic words. Thank God for YouTube which later went onto confirm that I wasn’t going mad and that the “TBC” was only added to VHS copies when the film became more and more popular on it’s video release.

Anyway, I digress. In my art class I spent the best part of a whole term perfecting my Michael J Fox artwork. I was besotted with him and had posters all over my bedroom walls. I regularly quoted and still quote the following lines – “What are you looking at, butthead?” and “Don’t be so gullible, McFly”. Not to mention – “Great, Scott!” and “Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads”. So many perfect lines to use at so many opportune moments.

My fanaticism didn’t really kick in until I was a lot older though (much like my fanaticism of ‘The Goonies’). The first time I visited Universal Studios in L.A I didn’t really twig that there was a BTTF ride (and also discovered the E.T ride too). Oh. My. God! I was in absolute heaven – I can’t count the number of times I rode that ride over and over – off-season at any theme parks always kicks ass! Back to the ride, the actual queue for the line was an adventure unto itself – it was awesome. Alan Silvestri’s score and the movie’s soundtrack played throughout and there were Flux Capacitor replicas, sketches of Doc Brown’s inventions and an actual life-size Delorean parked outside the entrance to keep us fans amused. Universal Studios didn’t disappoint – BTTF fans soaked up every drop of time travel coolness on offer when it came to the ride and for many years was one of the park’s most popular and beloved attractions. When the line finally weaved it’s way into the actual dome building (as it was a Simulator ride), a short film played on multiple TV screens and there to greet us was the ever frantic Doc Brown and the dastardly dim Biff Tannen. Biff was up to his old tricks, and in a nutshell, stole a Delorean, so Doc Brown called on us, his time travellers to get on our own Deloreans and chase after Biff and bump his car back to the future. It was just pure BTTF mayhem and even featured a T-Rex on the big dome screen. A nauseating ride for some, but I flippin’ loved it!

A few years later I then went to the Orlando resort and rode the BTTF ride there too. Last year, I even visited Japan and took 2 of my friends to the Osaka Universal park and went on the last remaining BTTF ride in existence. The rest had sadly been erased…. and replaced with new and improved ‘The Simpsons’ ride in both L.A and Orlando. I feel so privileged to have covered the BTTF ride trifecta. I know I sound like a big kid, but I really feel like I travelled with the Doc and had amazing adventures together.

My movie memorabilia collection was also boosted by my love of BTTF. I have the novel, a viewfinder from the ride, an awesome snow-globe, a miniature Delorean, flask and a bigger Delorean model on display at home too. Add to that a t-shirt and of course the epic soundtrack. My DVD collection now has 2 trilogy DVD sets as well as the VHS one, and I’m not ready to conclude there. I fully intend on getting my mitts on a hoverboard and a BTTF 2 Marty hat. I’m a geek and proud of it. Hell, it’s my love of this movie and other iconic 80s films that helped shape my personality and make me want to be a part of this site and rave about my love of film.

For fans of film conventions, there have also been a number of appearances in recent years at events like Collectormania in the UK where cast have done meet and greets with fans. My friends and I met the actor who played principal Strickland and I kindly asked him if he could yell at us all and call us a bunch of slackers. He was happy to oblige and seem to get a kick out of it too! My dream is to meet Christopher Lloyd and Michael J Fox someday… that would be heavy.

Seeing the movie on the big screen is a mega big deal. I didn’t see it at the cinema was I was little and can’t express enough how giddy I felt when I saw it last month. It truly is one of the greatest cinema experiences I’ve ever had and cannot wait to go back on Saturday with my friends and fellow fans of HeyUGuys to see it again. I strongly urge any fans of this film to go and see it on the big screen if it’s showing at a cinema near you. You’d be crazy to miss it and I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

Anyone who wants to join me at Leicester Square Empire cinema on Saturday 2nd October can do so by visiting our event page for more information.

“Time circuits on. Flux Capacitor… fluxxing. Engine running. All right!”

OH YES!

We’ve been boasting for the past month or so that we’re getting a theatrical release of one of the greatest movies of all time, Back to the Future where the US weren’t! Today however, we can no longer be so glum for AMC Cinemas have announced that they’ll be showing Back to the Future in their US cinemas for a limited time only.

All this exciting Back to the Future news comes to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the movie whereby Universal Studios have digitally remastered it and it looks and sounds amazing (we were lucky enough to see an early screening a few weeks ago)! They’ll also be releasing the digitally remastered version on Blu-ray 25th October and you can pre-order your copy here.

Keep you eyes peeled on HeyUGuys in the coming weeks as we’ll also be giving away a very special edition of the movie and it will definitely be a prize you’ll want!

If you’ve not seen the new full HD trailer that we debuted for the Back to the Future re-release, you can check it out here and we also have the full list of UK cinemas which will be showing it here.

We’ve been getting very, very excited about Back to the Future coming back to the cinema and this morning, those lovely chaps at Universal have provided us with the list of which cinemas in the UK will be showing the movie.

If you didn’t know, Back to the Future has been completely remastered and to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary, Universal Studios are bringing it back to the cinema. We debuted the HD trailer for it a few weeks ago which you can see below. The movie looks better than ever and we highly recommend that you go and see it while it’s on the big screen.

We already knew that The Empire Leicester Square would be showing it (that’s where the premiere was 25 years ago and where we saw it a few weeks ago) and you can pre-book your tickets here. Now Universal Studios have sent us the full list of cinemas which I’ve placed below.

The movie is also coming to blu ray at the end of October and we’ll have a competition nearer it’s release for you to win a copy.

Anyway, enough of that, check out the list of nearly 300 cinemas below that will show the movie from 1st October (unless stated otherwise) or click here to download the PDF. There are so many cinemas in this list, you simply have no excuse not to see Back to the Future! I’ve also been told a few more will be added to the list so we’ll try and keep you updated as we get news.

Jon and I got to see it last week at the Empire Leicester Square and it absolutely blew our minds. It’s now been 4 days since I saw it and on reflection, I cannot remember a time when I enjoyed being at the cinema so much. Seeing one of (if not my all time) favourite movies on the big screen, let alone Empire Leicester Square where the premiere was held 25 years ago was something special.

Seeing Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd go through their epic journey again was like I was there on the ride with them and I was so excited, I cannot describe!

We’ve previously put this trailer on the site but it was a very small version and now Universal Studios have sent me the full HD version for us to enjoy. You’ll see from the trailer that the picture quality is far superiors to that of the DVDs and you MUST MUST MUST go to the cinema to watch it as your minds will be severely blown!

So, without further ado, check out the new Back to the Future 25th Anniversary theatrical re-release trailer in all it’s high definition glory and go and see it when it’s out in cinemas, October 1st. The Blu ray release will follow on 25th October and you can pre-order your copy here.

Now, click the full screen button, select 1080p and enjoy!

We’ve had a couple of trailers for the re-released version (here and here) and now Twentieth Century Fox have sent us two brand new images for the biggest movie of all time where we get to see some more creatures that I don’t remember seeing in the original movie (please correct me if I’m wrong) and one of Jake Sulley (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) flying across Pandora.

James Cameron’s Avatar is coming back to cinema screens on August 27th and you can enter tickets to a screening at the Waterloo IMAX right here.

Check out these new images and click them to enlarge.

And if you hadn’t heard the news, here’s the official word that was announced a a while ago:

LONDON (July 8, 2010) _ Twentieth Century Fox and James Cameron today announced that AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be released in cinemas on Friday, 27th August, in a limited engagement and exclusively in Digital 3D and IMAX 3D.

This version of Cameron’s history-making and groundbreaking epic will include more than eight minutes of new footage. Since – and largely as of result of — AVATAR’s release last December, the number of available digital 3D screens has exploded, and moviegoers who missed experiencing the film in 3D will now have that opportunity.

Commented James Cameron: “Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora, and wished they could have stayed there longer. So we’re making that possible. AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION will be exclusively in 3D, and will have eight minutes of never before seen footage, including new creatures and action scenes. Whether you already love the movie, or you’ve never seen it, with this Special Edition, you’ll be seeing it like never before.”

Commented Fox Filmed Entertainment chairmen and CEOs, Jim Gianopulos and Tom Rothman: “AVATAR: SPECIAL EDITION is especially gratifying, because not only has AVATAR become one of the most beloved films in history, but after its initial theatrical release, we have been inundated with requests to re-release the film in theaters in 3D. Equally important, we’re thrilled that Jim Cameron is able to give audiences even more of what they loved about AVATAR.”

The Oscar® and Golden Globe® winning epic is the highest grossing film of all time, taking in over $2.7 billion in worldwide box office. It is also the top-selling Blu-ray disc of all time. Director James Cameron takes audiences to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on a journey of redemption and discovery as he leads a heroic battle to save a civilization. AVATAR delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the epic nature of the story.

This will please many but some think that the biggest movie of all time should have been cut down rather than adding bits!

This new trailer shows us about a second of different footage than we saw in the first trailer which you can see here. This time we lose the dramatic voice over too and let the pictures do the talking.

Avatar is released in the UK 27th August.

Universal Pictures have just released information that Back to the Future is going to have a theatrical re-release in UK cinemas. What does this mean? Well, it means that Back to the Future is coming back to the cinema!!! I was 5 years old when Back to the Future was released in 1985 and I may be wrong but I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen it in the cinema.

Back to the Future was directed by Robert Zemeckis and produced by Steven Spielberg. The movie starred Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Lea Thompson, Crispin Glover and Thomas F. Wilson who were all made famous (or more famous in some cases) in one of the biggest and best movies of all time. So many people love it and this is why Universal have decided to bring it back to the big screen. If you’ve never seen Back to the Future before, now is your chance to see it as it was meant to be seen.

Back to the Future is to be re-released in cinemas October 1st with the Blu ray box set following October 25th and according to Empire Online, will contain two hours of new extras including a retrospective documentary with the cast and a discussion about the film’s physics and a storyboard alternate ending sequence.

I am SO excited!!!

Check out the new trailer below.

I never thought I’d be writing these words again yet Twentieth Century Fox have just sent us this brand new trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar! This time it’s for the re-release version which shows 8 minutes of extra footage. Avatar is coming back to cinema screens on August 27th and you can watch the new trailer below which contains some new footage.

And if you hadn’t heard the news, here’s the official word that was announced a couple of weeks ago:

The astonishing success of Avatar does have its drawbacks, primarily how to overcome the inevitable disappointment of the transfer, and loss of the all important third dimension, to the home entertainment market. The answer is simple: Re-release the film but add in all of the extra scenes which were left on the cutting room floor.

That’s the rumour, according to THR, who put an extra forty minutes on the running time of the film, already a not inconsiderable 162 minutes, however the likelihood is that the extra footage will far less than this, to remain in the IMAX 170 minute limit.

Cynics may point out that the beating of this particularly bountiful cash pinata through a re-release following the 2D DVD and Blu-ray in late Spring but I’ve always had the feeling that Avatar would be around again sooner than we thought. With the proposed sequels no doubt gearing up for production, as well as Cameron’s rumoured 2012 Titanic re-release in 3D, it seems as though the huge Avatar fanbase will have many more opportunities to return to Pandora again and again.

Universal Pictures have just sent us this press release so read on to find out more.

This Halloween John Landis’ modern horror classic is released in cinemas for a limited time only as a digital presentation. Rick Baker’s iconic visual effects work and the film’s terrifying action scenes have never looked better on the big screen.

David Naughton and Jenny Agutter star in this classic cult black comedy. American backpackers David Kessler (David Naughton) and Jack (Griffin Dunne) take off for a three month European jaunt. Walking in the desolate English countryside, they come across some locals who give them chilling words of advice: “Keep to the road and keep clear of the moors” and “Beware of the moon”.

The boys set off into the darkness and hear a terrifying howl from across the moors, unaware that they are being stalked by a mythical beast with a taste for blood. Those who are killed by this creature become the undead, roaming the earth throughout eternity, but anyone who escapes with his life has a different fate in store…

This limited engagement is a must for horror and film fans alike.

The movie hits cinemas October 30th so if you’re a fan of the movie, get down to your local cinema and re-live the 1981 classic!
