We got the awesome new Super Bowl TV spot for G.I. Joe: Retaliation a few days early last week, and now we’ve got more brand new footage to tease you with, with a French trailer landing tonight, along with a new image from the film.

Jon M. Chu has helmed the project from a script by Zombieland’s Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, and we’ll be getting some familiar faces from the first film returning, as well as a host of new talent too.

Channing Tatum, Ray Park, and Lee Byung-hun reprise their roles from G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra, and joining them will be Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, Bruce Willis, Adrianne Palicki, Elodie Yung, Ray Stevenson, RZA, D.J. Cotrona, and Walton Goggins.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation will be released on 22nd June this year here in the UK, before setting sail across the Atlantic a week later to hit US theatres on June 29th. The first trailer we caught back in December made everything look pretty awesome, and the Super Bowl TV spot coupled with this new trailer has only furthered the excellent special effects we’ve seen, with a healthy dose of comedy.

With a few more months to go, you can whet your appetites now with some great new footage from the film, followed by a shot of Bruce Willis looking pretty bemused with Dwayne Johnson suitably living up to his character’s name, Roadblock. As usual, click to enlarge.

There’s a lot riding on this re-release of George Lucas’s Star Wars films (now with added 3D) as this falls before the re-unleashing of James Cameron’s Titanic later in the year and all eyes will be as much on the quality of the post-conversion process as the film itself.

There’s no doubt that The Phantom Menace has a unique place in Star Wars history and it’ll be very interesting to see how the film plays thirteen years later and without the enormous expectation it was greeted with all those years ago.

I spoke to some veteran ILMers last year for the Blu-ray release of the films and their response was firmly that Lucas wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t just right. Say what you like about the changes made over the years there are few films which could lead the 3D Classic-o-convert (my new name for the process of post converting the favourite films of yesteryear) revolution as readily as these.

We’re due to see the film in a couple of days and we’ve got our hands on a number of images, never before seen, peeking behind the scenes of the film’s production as well as reminding us that it’s not all about Jar Jar.

The Super Bowl hits TVs this weekend and that means it’s time for all the studios to showcase their summer movies as it’s viewed by some ridiculous number of people! Many will tune in to watch the New York Giants vs. The New England Patriots while others will tune in simply to see new TV spots and trailers.

Many studios have been releasing TV spots early and this evening we get a new 30 second trailer for G.I. Joe Retaliation. The sequel to the 2009 movie stars Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Ray Stevenson, Walton Goggins, Bruce Willis, Jonathan Pryce and according to the trailer Jay-Z who gets quoted by The Rock as one of his tracks is played over it. Epic!

On Saturday, we got our first sneak peek of the G.I. Joe: Retaliation trailer which is the sequel to the 2009 movie, G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra and now the full trailer is here.

This time, veteran hard man Bruce Willis and not so veteran hard man, Dwayne Johnson show up to give the movie extra umph alongside Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson, Adrianne Palicki, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Ray Stevenson and Walton Goggins. This one won’t be subtle…

 Synopsis: The G.I. Joe team faces off against Zartan, his accomplices, and the world leaders he has under his influence.

Most weekends not too much happens when it comes to big movie news but someone didnt get the memo as this evening as well as this amazing new poster for The Dark Knight Rises, we have this first look footage of The Rock aka Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis from the sequel to the 2010 movie, G.I. Joe: Retaliation.

The footage comes from ET as is a preview to the trailer which is set to hit on Monday. The film also stars Channing Tatum, Adrianne Palicki, Byung-hun Lee, Ray Park, Ray Stevenson, Walton Goggins, and is directed by Jon M Chu. It’ll be with us 22nd June.

Production on the GI Joe sequel, now titled GI Joe 2: Retaliation rather than Cobra Strikes, has now begun, with Dwayne Johnson, a.k.a. The Rock, posting a picture of himself in character as Roadblock via his Twitter.

Variety also reports that Justified’s Walton Goggins has signed on to join the rest of the cast, much of whom are similarly new to the new series, for the sequel to 2009’s GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra.

Retaliation, which will be released in 3-D, is to be helmed by Jon M. Chu, whose previous credits include Justin Bieber: Never Say Never and the second and third Step Up instalments. Ostensibly, this sounds like a totally different change of pace for Chu, given his past features. But when you think about it, so much choreography has to go into both dancing and fighting when you film it, so in that respect, his experience could prove useful.

Of the original cast, Channing Tatum, Ray Park, and Lee Byung-hun will be reprising their respective roles as Duke, Snake-Eyes, and Storm Shadow. Joining them will be Johnson as Roadblock, Adrianne Palicki as the female lead Lady Jaye, D.J. Cotrona and RZA as Flint and Blindmaster, Elodie Yung as Jinx, Ray Stevenson as Firefly, Joseph Mazzello as Mouse, and now Walton Goggins as Warden Nigel James. And in a somewhat unexpected move, Bruce Willis is also in talks to join as the original GI Joe, General Joe Colton.

With the writers of Zombieland, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, having penned the script for this sequel, and with the cast shaping up to be pretty interesting, it could definitely be worth checking out when it comes out, with Paramount currently aiming for a 29th June, 2012 release.

This new picture of Johnson as Roadblock is pretty much everything you’d expect. He’s kitted out in his army gear hefting a bit of a menacing weapon, ready to stop anything that comes his way. He also tweeted this great line along with the photo:

“1st day of shooting. 110 degrees. Bring It. #GIJoe”

By my estimation, 110 degrees Fahrenheit works out just north of 40 degrees Celsius, and Johnson’s attitude is just ridiculously awesome. Essentially, throw anything you like at him, Nature, he can do whatever the hell he sets his mind to. I must confess that I’m still yet to see The Rise of Cobra, but I’ll make sure I’ve seen it by the time Retaliation comes out next year, because it’s definitely got me interested. Adrianne Palicki, who was to play the new Wonder Woman in a TV series before NBC took a pass on the pilot, has now been given the lead female role of Lady Jaye in the upcoming G.I. Joe sequel, G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes, THR report.

With Wonder Woman looking to be going nowhere at the moment, landing a lead role in Cobra Strikes is definitely good news for Palicki, giving her a chance to play a pretty different heroine as a covert ops specialist.

The film’s sequel is to be directed by Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never, Step Up 3D) in 3D, and whilst I’m not always the biggest fan of 3D films, an action film like this could definitely make the most of the technology, and Chu’s credits show he’s already got experience with it.

Cobra Strikes is to be produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a producer whose credits include the original G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, Red, Salt, Constantine, and all three of Michael Bay’s Transformers films. Palicki will be joining Channing Tatum (Duke), Ray Park (Snake-Eyes), and Byung-hun Lee (Storm Shadow), who reprise their roles from G.I. Joe: The Rise of the Cobra, as well as Dwayne Johnson (Roadblock), Elodie Yung (Jinx), rapper-turned-actor RZA (Blind Master) and D.J. Cotrona (Flint), who are also coming on board to join the sequel.

Palicki is perhaps most known for her role in popular TV series, Friday Night Lights, as well as starring alongside Paul Bettany in 2009’s Legion, and she’ll also be seen on the big screen later this year in the Red Dawn remake in the role of Toni Mason, originally played by Jennifer Grey. Now being cast in Cobra Strikes too, it could well be the start of seeing Palicki cast more and more in big-budget films like these. Paramount have already set a release date for the G.I. Joe sequel for 10th August next year, so we can certainly expect production on this project to begin sooner rather than later.

Old school video game fans are not going to be happy with this! A trailer for the live-action adaptation of the classic SNK 2D fighting game The King of Fighters has surfaced online and it looks as though it’s a serious contender for the worst video game-to-film adaptation ever made.

Starring Sean Faris (Never Back Down), Maggie Q (Live Free or Die Hard), Will Yun Lee (Elektra), and martial arts expert Ray Park (Darth Maul from Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), The King of Fighters is directed by Gordon Chan, who although was behind the terrible Jackie Chan film The Medallion, also made the much loved Jet Li classic Fist of Legend.

The film’s premise is wildly different from the game it’s based upon. According to Movieset:

“The King of Fighters movie will introduce a new science fiction spin into the setting established in the games’ universe by following the surviving members of three legendary fighting clans who are continually whisked away to other dimensions by an evil power. As the fighters enter each new world they battle that universe’s native defenders, while the force that brought them seeks to find a way to invade and infect our world.”

With the abysmal Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li released earlier this year and now this KoF film, video game movies based on fighting tournaments seem to have hit an all time low. All eyes will now turn to Dwight H. Little’s adaptation of Tekken to see if his film will follow suit or perhaps salvage something for the fans.

Both The King of Fighters and Tekken have unspecified release dates in 2010.
