It stars Jeremy Renner and it look awesome and we cannot wait to see it!

The movie stars Jeremy Renner, Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Joan Allen, Scott Glenn, Stacy Keach, Oscar Isaac and is directed by Tony Gilroy.

The narrative architect behind the Bourne film series, Tony Gilroy, takes the helm in the next chapter of the hugely popular espionage franchise that has earned almost $1 billion at the global box office: The Bourne Legacy. The writer/director expands the Bourne universe created by Robert Ludlum with an original story that introduces us to a new hero (Jeremy Renner) whose life-or-death stakes have been triggered by the events of the first three films. For The Bourne Legacy, Renner joins fellow series newcomers Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Stacy Keach and Oscar Isaac, while franchise veterans Albert Finney, Joan Allen, David Strathairn and Scott Glenn reprise their roles.

The poster is pretty plain and simple but it’s nice to see the marketing materials for the movie coming out. The only problem that we have is that it isn’t directed by Paul Greengrass and doesn’t star Matt Damon. That said, as I said when the first image came out, maybe this will be a good spin-off in it’s own right and I have faith that it’ll be good! Please let it be good! We are warned to ‘prepare for the unexpected’ so that’s what I plan to do!

Instead we see Jeremy Renner in the lead role as a new character Aaron Cross with director Tony Gilroy at the helm. The movie also stars Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen, and Stacy Keach.

Click the poster to make it grow very BIG!

We heard a little while ago that this new movie is going to sit alongside the other Bourne movies when it comes to timeline rather than being a prequel or sequel which may well be a nice change but time will tell. You won’t find Paul Greengrass directing this one and it won’t star Matt Damon but this time Renner will be helmed by Tony Gilroy and co-star alongside Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Albert Finney, Oscar Isaac, Joan Allen and Stacy Keach and I cannot wait. It is the Olympics this year in London, it will also be the place I watch The Bourne Legacy!

Jeremy Renner has been a rising star for a good few years now, and he’s finally deservedly getting the attention he deserves, having earned himself two successive Oscar nominations in the past two years.

With several huge upcoming roles in the form of Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, The Avengers, and The Bourne Legacy, things are definitely looking on the up for the brilliant actor.

The last of these films, The Bourne Legacy, will see Renner taking up the leading role in the franchise that Matt Damon of course led for three films, with director Tony Gilroy taking the helm in place of Paul Greengrass. Alongside will be a fantastic supporting cast, including the likes of Edward Norton, Rachel Weisz, Oscar Isaac, and the return of Joan Allen and Albert Finney from the previous films.

Renner has been talking with Empire and teasing some excellent things about the project, surrounded in mystery, including some details about his character, and whether or not he’d be playing the same Jason Bourne character as Damon:

““My character is called Aaron Cross,” Renner told us, “but he ends up having a bunch of different names. For fans of the franchise, [The Bourne Legacy] has that same ticking clock, but it’s a new programme and new characters.”

So is Treadstone still involved? “Yeah, it’s that same deal, it’s just a new set of agents with a different leash. It’s the same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger. The differences are pretty vast but you’ll know it’s a Bourne movie.””

More expansive sounds pretty sweet in my books, as I’m sure it will in yours too. Renner is setting himself up as something of a huge action star, with all of his upcoming movies having the potential to see the star at the centre of multiple franchises in the years to come, which I think is nothing but fantastic news.

The Bourne Legacy, the fourth film in the newly rebooting franchise currently in production, will be hitting our cinemas on 17th August next year, months after we’ll have seen Renner starring in The Avengers (on 27th April), Hansel and Gretel (on 2nd March), and Ghost Protocol (on 26th December this year). It’s going to be a brilliant nine months for a brilliant actor, and I can’t wait for it all to unfold.

After gaps of twenty, seven and then six years between Days of Heaven, The Thin Red Line, The New World and The Tree of Life, he has suddenly become urgent in his development and scheduling of new projects.

First up will apparently be Lawless, with no less impressive a cast than Christian Bale (The Prestige, The Dark Knight), Cate Blanchett (Elizabeth, The Lord of the Rings), Rooney Mara (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Ryan Gosling (Drive, Blue Valentine). After that, apparently Malick will take the unprecedented step of rolling straight into his next project, Knight of Cups, which will feature Bale and Blanchett again, along with Isabel Lucas, who is due on our screens this month in Tarsem Singh’s Immortals.

There is no word on plots for either films, but given the critical praise generally heaped on his work, most will tend to enthusiastically greet news of new projects from Malick. Lest we forget, on top of both of those new projects, Malick already has another entire film in his locker, which remains untitled, but which was filmed in Oklahoma with Ben Affleck, Rachel McAdams, Javier Bardem and Rachel Weisz. No word on when that one might see the light of day, though with Knight of Cups (that title will have to go, surely?) and Lawless both slated to shoot in 2012, you would think he would want to see the already completed project released before shifting his focus elsewhere.

More as we get it. Source-wise, this one’s down to Collider.

Fernando Meirelles’ latest is an interesting choice for the opening film to the 55th BFI London Film Festival and it finds the City of God director expanding his horizons to encompass sexual politics on a global scale with Rachel Weisz, Jude Law and Anthony Hopkins making up part of the ensemble cast.

The film is a globe-lassoing meditation of life with love and life without it, what needs to satisfy and what values to sacrifice in its pursuit and despite some nice ideas and a few decent performances this is a hollow start to a film festival which promises a vibrant and vital exploration of cinema from around the world. Writer Peter Morgan returns to similar ground covered in Hereafter and 360 suffers from the same quirk of watching people pass or crash and drift away like ships in the night, all the time we look to find something to hold to but Meirelles remains distant and any connection made falls as quickly as one story is left and another begins.

The film has a lot in common with Contagion, which Morgan referred in the LFF press conference but there was a clear central thread to Soderbergh’s film, there is no such thread here and each stop-start story is presented to us with a blank expression and leaves us as soon as we move on to the next. There is an initial curiosity about the interconnected storylines spanning continents, cultures and class and it is to Meirelles’ credit that he establishes the situation of each character ably but everything is too transient, nothing holds it to the ground.

There are some nice touches visually, some fine characters moments which break the surface of a distant and oddly banal script, the bodyguard at the door is one such example as is the seduction of Rachel Weisz’s character, but it’s a curious version of Love Actually without Christmas and without Love. The most engaging character comes in the form of Anthony Hopkins’ father searching for his missing daughter and his epiphany following a meeting with a woman on a plane, his weary gravitas is pitch perfect until the very last moment when he gives a speech to an AA meeting many miles from home which undermines all that has come before. Likewise the Jude Law/Rachel Weisz relationship in which begins with the two separately finding themselves in adulterous situations is neatly played until the final, almost incongruous scene with the two, again a hastily tied bow on a badly wrapped present.

Towards the end more epiphanies occur and each story comes to rest without ceremony or catharsis and perhaps this is the point. That the world continues to turn with betrayal and longing and all that jazz and nothing we do will make a difference. It feels wrong to come to this conclusion, surely there is more to the film than this?

There’s something to be said for the breadth of vision and serious intent here, and while 360 has its moments of genuine emotion these are few and too fleeting to touch the skin, let alone get under it.

**~~~ (2/5)

Fernando Meirelles’ latest movie, 360 is set to open the festival and you can watch the stars of the movie arrive right here live.

360 stars Rachel Weisz, Jude Law, Anthony Hopkins, Ben Foster, Eminem, Moritz Bleibtreu and our review should be up later this evening.

Inspired by Arthur Schnitzler’s classic La Ronde, screenwriter Peter Morgan and director Fernando Meirelles’ 360 combines a modern and dynamic roundelay of stories into one, linking characters from different cities and countries in a vivid, suspenseful and deeply moving tale of love in the 21st century. Starting in Vienna, the film beautifully weaves through Paris, London, Bratislava, Rio, Denver and Phoenix into a single, mesmerizing narrative.

The stream should begin at 18.30 GMT so stay tuned! You can see all our London Film Festival coverage here.

Our review of the film will be up on the site later tonight, but if you want to hear what Meirelles, writer Peter Morgan and some of the cast had to say about the film at the press conference earlier today then look no further, we’ve got the highlights embedded below.

It’s a divisive film to be sure, and a very low-key opener for the festival however Meirelles and Morgan make a good case for the film and you’ll be able to find out how we found 360 shortly.

Here’s the video, check out the rest of the LFF programme and book your tickets right here – there are some stunning films this year so get stuck in.

With a script from two-time Oscar nominee, Peter Morgan (The Queen, Frost/Nixon), and a cast headed up by Anthony Hopkins, Rachel Weisz, Jude Law, and Ben Foster, there’s definitely a lot of talent involved with the project.

We first got a look at the film back in July with a photo of married couple Law and Weisz, which was then soon followed up with more images from the film that gave us our first look at Hopkins and Foster, and a hint of discontent in Law and Weisz’s marriage. Then came the wonderful news that the film would be opening this year’s BFI London Film Festival on 12th October, marking its European premiere.

The film is based on a 1900 play by Austrian author, Arthur Schnitzler, entitled Reigen (a.k.a. La Ronde).

“Schnitzler’s original used ten pairs of lovers from different sections of Viennese society to show how sexual relationships can transgress social boundaries. Morgan and Meirelles broaden this out, as the film weaves through Vienna, Bratislava, Paris, London, Rio, Phoenix and Denver into a single, seamless narrative. An ambitious young woman sees sex as a way to escape her background; a respectable widower wrestles with the conflict between desire and religious principles; a man grieving his long-lost daughter forges a bond with a heartbroken girl; a married couple come to see each other with fresh eyes. Individual stories connect, choices are made and directions taken but, as always in Meirelles’ films, these are grounded in a sense of place. Each city the characters pass through feels real, vividly so.”

We’ve now got the first clip from the film to share with you, courtesy of The Playlist, ahead of its London premiere next month. It doesn’t give much away in terms of what we can expect plot-wise, but it does show so much promise for the film amongst the cast’s performances, with Hopkins really nailing his character, an alcoholic, who looks filled with regret in this scene.

There’s no word yet on a UK release date, so if you get to see this next month at the London Film Festival, count yourself lucky. Unfortunately, the film had something of a bad start when it debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival a couple of weeks ago, with technical faults delaying the screening and sound problems affecting the screening itself. Let’s hope, however, that it will be shown precisely how it’s meant to be seen when it opens the festival next month, because this really does look like a film to watch out for. Without further ado, here’s the great first clip from 360.

We got the first trailer and poster for the upcoming film Dream House back in July, and though the trailer would appear to be somewhat spoiling the plot, it was a great look at the film, and the poster is fantastic.

Now, courtesy of Yahoo, we’ve got our first clip from the film outside of the trailer, showing Daniel Craig and Rachel Weisz clearing up after some kids they find squatting in their basement.

The basic premise of the film, spoiler-free, is fairly generic as thriller/horrors go, with a family – Craig, Weisz, and their two daughtes – moving into a new home and finding out that its past inhabitants were brutally murdered. But I must admit that I do quite like the look of the trailer, as free from spoilers as it isn’t, and I’m quite looking forward to seeing the film.

Directed by six-time Oscar nominee Jim Sheridan (In the Name of the Father), and written by David Loucka (co-writer of the upcoming House at the End of the Street), and also stars Naomi Watts as a neighbour of Craig and Weisz’s. The film is scheduled for a 30th September of release in the States, and though there’s no news yet of a UK release, it will hopefully just be a matter of time before it comes out here. Given that its three lead stars are all British-born, and its director is Irish, and all have made a big name for themselves here, the film should have a fairly decent audience in place here, so we’ll keep our fingers crossed. For now, enjoy the new clip, entitled, Who Is Peter Ward?

It starts off similar to the US one that we saw earlier in the year but then gives us quite a bit of new footage.

Dream House is directed by Jim Sheridan and also stars Naomi Watts. It’s released here in the UK November 25th. Find out more about the film on their official website.

Once upon a time, there were two little girls who lived in a house. DANIEL CRAIG (Cowboys & Aliens, upcoming The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo), NAOMI WATTS (The Ring, Fair Game) and Oscar® winner RACHEL WEISZ (The Constant Gardener, The Lovely Bones) star in Dream House, a suspense thriller about a family that unknowingly moves into a home where grisly murders were committed…only to uncover even darker mysteries within its walls. Successful publisher Will Atenton (Craig) quit a high-power job in Manhattan to relocate his wife, Libby (Weisz), and two girls to a quaint New England town. But as they settle into their new life, they discover their perfect home was the murder scene of a mother and her children. And the entire city believes it was at the hands of the husband who survived. When Will investigates, he’s not sure if he’s starting to see ghosts or if the tragic story is just hitting too close to home. His only clues come from Ann Patterson (Watts), a mysterious neighbour who knew those who were lost. And as Will and Ann piece together the haunting puzzle, they must find out who murdered the family in Will’s dream house before he returns to kill again.

Joining Craig, Watts and Weisz in the film are MARTON CSOKAS (Alice in Wonderland) as Ann’s ex-husband, Jack; ELIAS KOTEAS (The Fourth Kind) as the mysterious stranger Boyce; and JANE ALEXANDER (The Unborn) as Dr. Greeley. James G. Robinson presents a Morgan Creek production and a Bobker/Kruger Films production: Dream House, starring Daniel Craig, Naomi Watts, Rachel Weisz, Marton Csokas, Elias Koteas, Jane Alexander. Casting for the film is by Avy Kaufman, CSA. The film’s music supervisor is Dave Jordan; its music is by John Debney. Dream House is edited by Glen Scantlebury and Barbara Tulliver, ACE. The costume designer is Delphine White, and the production designer is Carol Spier. The suspense thriller’s director of photography is Caleb Deschanel, ASC, and its executive producers are Rick Nicita, Mike Drake. The film is produced by David Robinson, Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger. It is written by David Loucka and produced by James G. Robinson. Dream House is directed by Jim Sheridan. The film will be released in select territories by Warner Bros. Pictures.

The legendary Anthony Hopkins is of course no stranger whatsoever to the serial killer genre, making a name for himself the world over for his role as Dr. Hannibal Lecter in The Silence of the Lambs, Hannibal, and Red Dragon, the first of which won him a Best Actor Oscar.

He’s now in final negotiations to take a turn on the other side of the law, Collider report, in the upcoming serial killer drama, Solace.

If all things go well, Hopkins would play a former doctor with psychic abilities who works with the FBI in order to hunt down a serial killer. It’s still early days, so plot details are being kept under wraps for the time being, but the basic premise does sound interesting. And you know that the character would have to be incredibly smart, and there are few actors that play as smart a man as Hopkins seems to pull off so naturally.

There’s no director attached to the project yet, but with Hopkins entering final negotiations, it’s not unlikely that we’ll have a director signing on in the near future. Sean Bailey (producer on Matchstick Men, Gone Baby Gone, and Tron: Legacy) and Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven, Matchstick Men) wrote the original script, and James Vanderbilt (Zodiac, the upcoming The Amazing Spider-Man) and Peter Morgan (Frost/Nixon, The Queen) have both since done some re-drafting work, so I can imagine the script is pretty awesome.

Hopkins was most recently seen playing Chris Hemsworth’s father, Odin, in this year’s Marvel blockbuster Thor, and will next be starring alongside Rachel Weisz and Jude Law in Fernando Meirelles’ 360, also scripted by Peter Morgan, which is opening this year’s BFI London Film Festival next month. Hopefully he will be officially signing on to the project soon, and then the rest of the casting and the search for the director can get underway. It sounds like an interesting project, so we’ll be sure to keep you posted as and when more news surfaces.

It was recently announced that English director Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea would be closing this year’s BFI London Film Festival, to go hand in hand with another film that Rachel Weisz is starring in, 360, which will be opening the festival on 12th October.

A lovely first clip from the film has now surfaced, The Playlist report, and it gives a great feel of the beautiful moments we can expect from the film ahead of its November release here.

“Set in post-war Britain, this deeply moving story is an adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s classic play, The Deep Blue Sea is a study of forbidden love, suppressed desire, and the fear of loneliness. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, what – or whom – should Hester choose?”

It doesn’t give anything away but a taste, leaving you wanting more, which is always good for a clip to do. The music, Jo Stafford’s cover of You Belong To Me, fits the scene wonderfully, and sets the tone for what is a visually beautiful moment showing Rachel Weisz and Tom Hiddleston dancing in each other’s arms.

Hiddleston is now best known for his role as Loki in Thor this year, a role he’ll be reprising next year in The Avengers, and he looks great as the young man with whom Weisz’s Hester is having an affair. Weisz herself of course is well known for a number of roles, including The Mummy, The Constant Gardener, and Constantine, and was most recently seen on the BBC in Page Eight, opposite Bill Nighy and Ralph Fiennes.

If you’re lucky enough to be going to this year’s BFI London Film Festival, then The Deep Blue Sea is certainly one to watch if you have the chance. We saw some brilliant images for the film at the end of July, and this first clip from it only cements the beauty we saw in them. Without further ado, here’s the lovely new clip.

The Deep Blue Sea is directed by Terence Davies and from the images that Jon posted a while ago, it looks beautifully shot.

Set in post-war Britain, this deeply moving story is an adaptation of Terence Rattigan’s classic play, The Deep Blue Sea is a study of forbidden love, suppressed desire, and the fear of loneliness. Stuck between the devil and the deep blue sea, what – or whom – should Hester choose?

I’ve placed the full press release below for your viewing pleasure and we can’t wait to see what else will be playing this year. We’ll find out the full line-up when it’s released 7th September.

The Deep Blue Sea will be released in the UK 25th November.

London –30August: The 55th BFI London Film Festival, in partnership with American Express, is proud to announce that this year’s Festival will close on Thursday 27October with the UK premiere of The Deep Blue Sea, adapted and directed by Terence Davies (Distant Voices, Still Lives) marking his return to fiction feature making following his much loved documentary Of Time and the City. The Deep Blue Sea stars Rachel Weisz, Tom Hiddleston and Simon Russell Beale.

Hester Collyer (Academy Award ® winner Rachel Weisz) leads a privileged life in 1950s London as the beautiful wife of high court judge Sir William Collyer (Simon Russell Beale). To the shock of those around her, she walks out on her marriage to move in with young ex-RAF pilot, Freddie Page (Tom Hiddleston), with whom she has fallen passionately in love.

Sandra Hebron, the Festival’s Artistic Director comments: “It’s a great pleasure to be able to close the Festival with this exquisite new feature from one of our most cherished directors. Terence Davies is a film maker who the BFI has supported from the very beginnings of his career, and in Terence Rattigan’s centenary year, this beautifully directed and acted film is the perfect closing night film.”

On having the film’s UK premiere at the Festival, producers Sean O’Connor and Kate Ogborn comment: “We are deeply honoured and hugely thrilled for The Deep Blue Sea to be screened as the Closing Night Gala at this year’s BFI London Film Festival. It’s very much a London-based film, so it feels just right for the film’s first UK outing to be at this wonderful festival. It’s a particular pleasure for us to introduce a new film by Terence Davis – returning to the period and themes of his most celebrated work. All in all, for many reasons, it feels like coming home.”

Director Terence Davies adds: “”As a British filmmaker, to get into the BFI London Film Festival at all is bliss – to get a Closing Night film is sheer heaven! The Festival is now, rightly, seen as one of the major European and World Film Festivals; championing not only British but World cinema.”

The Deep Blue Sea opens in UK cinemas on 25th November.

UK Film Council and Film4 in association with Protagonist Pictures, Lip Sync Productions and Artificial Eye present a Camberwell/ Fly Film Production.

Produced by Sean O’Connor and Kate Ogborn. Executive produced by Katherine Butler, Lisa Marie Russo, Peter Hampden and Norman Merry.

In my mind, the British take on spy dramas is consistently better than any of our international counterparts. A new trailer and images for Sir David Hare’s Page Eight have just been released, courtesy of Rope of Silicon, and they’re a prime example of just how good we do things here.

The film debuted back in June at the Edinburgh International Film Festival, where Steven got to see and review it, and it will be the closing night film for the Toronto International Film Festival next month.

Written and directed by Hare, Page Eight sees him back behind the camera for the first time in almost a decade and a half, having been focusing on his screenwriting career since then, and earning himself two Oscar nominations in doing so with The Hours and The Reader.

Page Eight also boasts a terrific cast, including Bill Nighy, Ralph Fiennes, Rachel Weisz, Michael Gambon, Felicity Jones, and Ewen Bremner.

“In the film Nighy plays Johnny Worricker, a long-serving M15 officer. His boss and best friend Benedict Baron (Gambon) dies suddenly, leaving behind him an inexplicable file, threatening the stability of the organization. Meanwhile, a seemingly chance encounter with Johnny’s striking next-door neighbor and political activist Nancy Pierpan (Weisz) seems too good to be true. Set in London and Cambridge, Page Eight is described as a contemporary spy film which addresses intelligence issues and moral dilemmas peculiar to the new century.”

Though Page Eight has been screened on the festival circuit, it has in fact been filmed for BBC Two, on which it will be broadcast later this year. I think this is definitely something to keep your eyes peeled for; it looks to be TV Licence money very well spent. Without further ado, here is the new trailer, followed by the four new images from the film. As usual, click to enlarge.
