At this week’s second UK premiere* for A Dangerous Method, we spoke to Viggo Mortenson about the attraction of working with David Cronenberg.He explained,
“He makes what can sometimes be a very trying or difficult job, or emotionally demanding, he makes easy and fun. He never loses sight of the fact that, after all it’s play, it’s make believe. It should be fun, there’s no reason for it not to be, and he helps you feel that way too. There’s a lot of directors – I would say, more often than not, directors forget that. They feel the pressure, or they take themselves or what they’re doing too seriously.”

When asked whether he was referring to directors he has worked with he continued,

“I don’t think there’s many directors like him, who are so secure as people. That have such technical knowledge, and actually like actors – a lot of directors don’t. Don’t understand them, don’t want to understand them, feel threatened by them and the suggestions that they have. He’s not.”

Now file this under speculation, but I’m guessing Peter Jackson doesn’t count as one of the ‘secure’ people, at least not in Mortensen’s eyes. The actor hasn’t been brought back for a cameo in the Hobbit, in spite of seeming quite keen to do so. Perhaps this could be why.

During the evening we also caught up with Kiera Knightly, who explained that the film was very nearly much more tame,

“I was in doubt about doing it because of two specific scenes in the film that are of a sadomasochistic nature, and I actually phoned up David and I said, ‘look, I love you, I love your work, I love the script but I don’t know if I want to do this. It’s the age of the internet, we know what the British press are like’, and he said, ‘OK, we’ll take them out’.”

Fortunately she managed to talk Cronenberg round,

“I actually thought, the reason I’d phoned him up to turn it down is because I thought it was really important that they were in there. I didn’t think it was gratuitous to have them in there. I thought it was incredibly important, if you were going to make a film about Freud and Yung, and about this woman who was torn apart by her sexual desires, in that medium you can’t not see what you’re talking about. So anyway, we talked about it and talked about it and kind of got into what it was in her that meant that she needed to do that, and exactly how he was going to shoot it. And the fact that he didn’t want to make it sexy or voyeuristic, but kind of brutal and strangely clinical, I went, ‘OK, let’s do it’.”

*You read that right. It originally premiered at the London Film Festival in October, but apparently that doesn’t count, so we got another one.

Last night saw the UK premiere of This Means War, the spy-action-rom-com-bromance starring Chris Pine, Tom Hardy and Reese Witherspoon, and we braved the cold weather and the gangs of dispossessed posh people marauding around Kensington to cover the event.

You may have already seen the clip from the video where McG serenades me. Remarkably that wasn’t even the first time that had happened that day. In addition to the full interview with McG, where we spoke about his hopes for the movie, the influence the Bond franchise and Oceans 11 have had on the film, and the ‘R’-rating it originally received in the US.

We also spoke with Chris Pine about the relationship between the male leads in the film, and got a quick snippet from Reese Witherspoon about the appeal of This Means War, and her love of small dramatic movies.

Here’s something you don’t see every day! Last night, Ben Mortimer and Colin Hart attended the UK premiere of This Means War in Kensington, London (see their full report including interviews with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine shortly) and ended up being serenaded by the film’s director.

This footage shows what sort of atmosphere was on the carpet last night as Ben Mortimer’s dreams came true as the Terminator Salvation Director, McG decided to sing Michael Jackson’s song ‘Ben’ to him on the spot!

I’ll say no more but watch on and enjoy!

This Means War is released in the UK March 2nd.

Today is about one thing and one thing only, The Muppets! Ben is off to interview Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy and I’ve never seen the man so exited! We’re also off to the UK press conference for the movie and we’ll be live blogging the whole thing so keep your eyes peeled for that!

In the meantime though, here’s the premiere report which took place last night in London and all the stars were out in force. Our friends from Upbeat were there armed with their camera to interview them as they walked or hopped the green carpet!

As usual, Miss Piggy tried to steal the limelight and Kermit struggled to get a work in edgeways but what’s new!  Director James Bobin is there too to tell is experiences working with such iconic actors in what looks like and awful lot of fun.

The Muppets is released in UK cinemas  10th February.

Normally at HeyUGuys, we don’t go in for celebrity culture, we certainly wouldn’t usually run a separate piece based on a red carpet interview with someone not involved with film, but when we spoke to Jimmy Carr at the premiere for The Woman In Black we discovered something very interesting – not only is he a fan of films, but he really knows his stuff.

He’s certainly gone up in our estimation. Frankly we’d like to see him get his own film show.

This evening, London Town was the host for the Royal UK Premiere of Steven Spielberg’s new movie, War Horse. What made it even more special was that The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge (or William and Kate to their friends) were in attendance. Joining them was the legendary director himself accompanied by the main star of the movie, Joey the horse and cat members Emily Watson, David Thewlis, Peter Mullan, Niels Arestrup, Tom Hiddleston, Jeremy Irvine, Benedict Cumberbatch and Toby Kebbel.

The Royal UK Premiere was in  aid of The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry. Joining William and Kate for this special screening were 600 servicemen and women and their families. Our man on the ground, Ben Mortimer was on the red carpet ready to catch the stars as they walk by so keep your eyes peeled for his report of the evening later today.

War Horse is released in the UK this Friday 13th January.

Absolutely love this poster for Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol that comes courtesy of IGN. It’s designed to look like the tallest building in the world – Burj Khalifa that we’ve become accustomed to seeing Tom Cruise swinging off in all the trailers. In this new poster which looks like it could come from someone like Olly Moss (and as from the comments section we now know it wasn’t him!), we see the building turned into a lit fuse which will no doubt self destruct any second!

The fourth installment is directed by Brad Bird​​ and sees Tom Cruise​ back for more action packed fun in a movie which is expected in the UK on Boxing Day this year, 26th December. The film also includes Simon Pegg​​, Jeremy Renner​, Paula Patton, Léa Seydoux, Michael Nyqvist​​ , Anil Kapoor.

This evening, London plays host to the European Premiere of Guy Ritchie’s new movie, Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows which stars Robert Downey Jr​, Jude Law​, Noomi Rapace​, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry​ and Eddie Marsan​. Many of the main cast will be there including Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, Director Guy Ritchie and Producer Joel Silver but if you can’t be there in person, fear not as we have the live stream of the event for you right here!

The lovely Edith Bowman will be hosting the event and interviewing the stars as they arrive. They’ll also be a gypsy band performing to open the evening who are featured in the movie. It’s amazing what you can learn while they’re doing the live sync test!

The stars should be arriving on the carpet from 17:45 so go and get a cuppa and come back to watch it all as it unfolds! Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows is in UK cinemas 16th December. While down at the Breaking Dawn Part 1 premiere at Stratford Westfield this evening we caught up with two men who know probably more about the film than anyone else, director Bill Condon and producer of all five Twilight films, Wyck Godfrey. They took the time out to talk us through the challenges they faced transforming Stephanie Meyer’s books into Hollywood blockbusters, the moments they’re proudest of and what it was like to work with three of the best known actors around.

In the interview, Wyck talks about how they made the baby adding more jam and cream cheese while Bill Condon gives hope to all Twilight fans over the globe saying that this may The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 may not be the end of the Saga. Watch till the end for the info.

While down there we managed to catch up with the power three, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner as well as the latest member of the Twilight family and Kill List actress, MyAnna Buring. This evening, myself and the lovely Laura from Who’s Jack headed off into what we thought would be the warm for the UK Premiere of EOne Entertainment’s new movie, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Turns out it was outdoors but we didn’t let the cold get our spirits down and had a great evening! While we were waiting on the carpet to interview the big three, Robert Pattinson, Taylor Lautner and Kristen Stewart, I got a little snap happy taking pictures of all the other celebs that turned up (and in the end started snapping the a-listers too!).

Below is a selection of the photos that I got from the red carpet, all of which you can click to enlarge. The video interviews with the stars of the movie are currently exporting and will be posted on HeyUGuys as soon as technology will allow. In the meantime, here’s some piccies!

The stars from The X-Factor including Misha B, Amelia were there along with Producer Wyck Godfrey, Director Bill Condon and Swedish actress, MyAnna Buring who you may have seen in Kill List recently were also walking the carpet and I papped them too, along with my friend Faith who was rather over excited.

The world has indeed gone mad but I would expect nothing less from the Twilight mad fans (known affectionately as Twihards) who would do anything to grab a glimpse of the stars from the The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner will all be there for all to see! Deadline has put up a report that the fans have already started queuing for a spot on the red carpet (or at least where it will be) for the World Premiere which takes place on Monday night in Los Angeles.

The UK Premiere takes place on Wednesday, 16th November and I’ll hopefully be there at Westfield Stratford to interview the stars!

We’ll also be placing the World Premiere live stream  courtesy of Yahoo so you’ll be able to see the stars as they arrive. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 World Premiere kicks off Monday, November 14 at 8:00 PM ET/5:00 PM PT which by our calculations means 1am GMT.
