While the recent look at the Space Jockey mask gave further hints at the links between Alien and Prometheus there’s something a little more tangible on offer today with this new image from Ridley Soctt’s film from the L.A. Times (via Coming Soon).

Lining up behind Noomi Rapace are a couple of space jockey suits and there’s a far bet that Nooms has just caught a glimpse of what goes inside one of them. Man, this is a tease-a-thon isn’t it? Only a few months to go until we get the chance to see Scott’s film, easily one of the most anticipated of the year.

Pinewood Studios have just put up this fabulous featurette focusing on Hugo and the filming which took place at Shepperton and Pinewood Studios right here in the UK. In the feauturette which looks specifically at the studios used for filming, we also hear from Graham King who talks about Director Martin Scorsese and the ‘magician’ that he is and James Cameron who speaks briefly with Director Martin Scorsese about the 3D used in the movie. So we’re all sitting here waiting for a new trailer for The Dark Knight rises which as yet has failed to materialise but fear  not as we have this new international trailer for Snow White and the Huntmans from Universal Pictures via their Mexico office. One movie in 2012 that we know will have no problems with promotion has to be Snow White and the Huntsman or SWATH as it’s becoming known on Twitter mainly due to the fact that it has Twilight star Kristen Stewart in it! A few weeks ago, I got to see a very early screening of the fabulous movie, My Week With Marilyn (see Lisa’s review here) and then meet and interview Eddie Redmayne who plays Colin Clark, in the movie. Colin Clark was the man who had a short fling with Marilyn Monroe while she was in the UK filming The Prince and the Showgirl in the 1950s at Pinewood Studios with Sir Laurence Olivier Directing. My Week With Marilyn is the completely bonkers but true story of Clark’s short encounter with quite possibly the most famous actress that has ever lived.

Eddie is such a nice bloke and was an absolute delight to interview. He was so passionate about the movie and the history both around Marilyn Monroe (played by Michelle Williams) but also for his stellar supporting cast and the iconic Pinewood Studios.

In the interview we talk about how he got the part, what it was like working with the likes of Kenneth Branagh, Dame Judy Dench, Toby Jones, Michelle Williams, Emma Watson and Dominic Cooper and we touch on working at Pinewood Studios and how he did research on his character Colin Clark.

My Week With Marilyn is Directed by Simon Curtis and is released in the UK tomorrow, 25th November and you must go and see it!

A few months ago it was announced that A Fantastic Fear of Everything was to be the first film to benefit from the announcement that the Pinewood Studio Group were launching Pinewood Films with a plan to invest in indepenent British projects and today we how our first glimspe of Simon Pegg in the lead role.

Co-directed by Crispian Mills and Chris Hopewell the film stars Amara Khan, Sheridan Smith and Clare Higgins who join Pegg in the story of a writer whose research into serial killers rivets the notion that he will himself be horribly murdered to his mind. Cue breakdown, paranoia and quite possibly genius.

Bloody Disgusting had an image of Pegg as Jack lookin suitably scared. I was on set earlier in the year and my report will be up on the site as soon as the embargo cloud lifts.

Earlier in the year we reported that Pinewood Shepperton were to invest millions in film production here in the UK and today we’ve been given exclusive access to the first images to emerge from Omid Nooshin’s film Last Passenger starring Dougray Scott and Kara Tointon.

In a stroke of brave ingenuity the creative team behind the project made a pitch trailer to show off their ideas and it did the trick as the funding came together with the BFI and Pinewood Studios announcing they were joining forces with Future Films​/2B Pictures, Pathé and NDF International to co-produce the film, marking the second move by the Pinewood group into film production.

Last Passenger Speeds into Shepperton

The BFI and Pinewood Studios, in association with Future Films/2B Pictures, Pathé and NDF International, is delighted to announce the commencement of production on Last Passenger.

The film, starring Dougray Scott and Kara Tointon began shooting today at Shepperton Studios and marks the first tie-up between the BFI and The Pinewood Studios Group – which recently announced a new initiative that will see it invest in a number of British independent films each year.

Last Passenger is written and directed by Omid Nooshin and produced by Ado Yoshizaki Cassuto and Zack Winfield. It is a claustrophobic suspense thriller in the Hitchcockian-Spielberg tradition of the everyday man thrust into an extraordinary situation. The film has a relentless momentum and genuine heart to get audience pulses racing – at 100 miles per hour.

In order to realise their ambitions for the project, the director and producers had to think of innovative ways to secure the backing they needed. The answer was to produce an incredible ‘dummy’ trailer that captured the suspense and action of the film – and they did so for a mere £500. On the back of this trailer, Pathé, which had approached the team to handle worldwide sales for the film was able to secure nine territories including Russia, Brazil, Turkey, Portugal and Indonesia at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival.

Zack Winfield and Ado Yoshizaki, Producers of NDF International comment: “On the back of the trailer the project gained incredible momentum. To attract talented actors like Dougray Scott and Kara Tointon, as well as exceptional partners such as the BFI, Pinewood Studios, Future Films and Pathé is hugely exciting and we now can’t wait to get started.”

Nestled a few miles west of London sits Pinewood Studios, still looking as sprightly as ever, but having today reached the grand old age of 75.

And what a 75 years it has been. Though the landscape of cinema has changed beyond recognition in that time (fads have come and gone, new filming techniques have been developed and refined, entire genres have been popularised, then forgotten, then revived), Pinewood remains.

Bought by building tycoon Charles Boot in the early 1930′s, Pinewood was then turned into a studio through a joint venture between Boot and J Arthur Rank, the name being settled on because according to Boot:-

“of the number of trees which grow there and because it seemed to suggest something of the American film centre in its second syllable.”

The studios officially opened their doors on 30th September 1936 and since then has been home to some of the largest scale productions imaginable. The 007 stage was built for The Spy Who Loved Me in the late 1970′s and has accommodated a whole host of Bondian adventures up to and including Quantum of Solace. I could go on. At some length. What an almighty legacy. The studio continues to thrive, with Tim Burton returning after Sweeney Todd and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to shoot his next film, Dark Shadows there. The Hobbit and Snow White & The Huntsman are hardly small-fry either.

So if you have them to hand, raise your glasses to Pinewood Studios and its “diamond plus something but not yet platinum” anniversary. What is my favourite of what has been shot there so far? It’s probably not The Da Vinci Code or Tomb Raider. Gosh, this is like trying to pick your favourite child. I guess it would have to be either Aliens or The Bourne Ultimatum. What’s yours?

Here’s something you don’t see every day! We’ve got some new set photos of Kristen Stewart wearing a Snow White costume while wading through the no doubt freezing Atlantic for her new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. Earlier in the week we got a glimpse of the Twilight star donning her rather more sturdy armour but today she looks rather more feminine in her Snow White costume.

Snow White and the Huntsman is currently filming on Marloes Sands beach in Wales for the movie which we can expect to hit our screens summer 2012. As well as Stewart, the movie stars Charlize Theron​​, Chris Hemsworth​​, Sam Claflin​, Ian McShane​, Toby Jones, Nick Frost​, Ray Winstone​​, Lily Cole​, Bob Hoskins​, Eddie Marsan​ and it’ll be with us Summer 2012. Filming is set to take place here in the UK and at the fabulous Pinewood Studios.

During Comic Con 2011 a few weeks ago, by far the biggest hit article we posted was our live blog for Universal Pictures’ new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. This is mainly due to the fact that Twilight star, Kristen Stewart is in it! But Stewart aside, the cast for this one is rather fabulous and also includes Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole, Bob Hoskins and Eddie Marsan (with more in the pipeline!).

It’s so great to see yet another big movie being shot here in the UK and especially at Pinewood Studios which is simply a movie magical place to be with all it’s history!

Snow White and the Huntsman, a new epic action-adventure from Universal Pictures, has now begun production at Pinewood Studios.

The crew has started to construct some fantastic sets on the Studios’ backlot, as well as on some of its world famous stages.

Our man at Comic-Con was on his email soon after sitting in on the Prometheus panel a couple of weeks ago to tell us about the epic footage Ridley Scott screened for the collected geekery. You can read his take and see the video from the floor here, and it sounds very impressive indeed.

Given the tight security here in the UK on the set of the film it seems fairly understandable that the footage screened didn’t make it online, as is the way with almost everything these days, within a few hours of it playing to the Comic-Con crowds. Days passed and no bootleg video surfaced and fans went back to pour over the scant info and single image Fox had made available. That changes now, as there clearly was someone recording the footage as it played and several still images have surfaced online.

Let me be clear – if you’re looking forward to seeing this film (and who isn’t?) but have a modicum of patience you would do well to wait until a shiny HD version of the teaser trailer is officially released by Fox as enticing as these new peeks into the Alienverse are they beg to move and to be seen clearly. I wanted to post these because I know some of you can’t wait for a further glimpse of Ridley’s Scott return to science fiction.

We’ve just been sent over the following press release alerting us to the fact that the legendary Simon Pegg will be starring in new movie, A Fantastic Fear of Everything which started shooting 6th July in London and at Shepperton Studios.

This is the first project for Pinewood Studio Group in their new ‘Pinewood Films’ venture which we reported on a while back. It’s all very exciting for them and we’re so pleased to see their first film is now fully on the road. Pegg is joined by Alan Drake, Amara Khan, Clare Higgins and Sheridan Smith and the film is the debut feature of former Kula Shaker frontman Crispian Mills, the son of director Roy Boulting and actress Hayley Mills, and whose grandfather was the late Sir John Mills.

Jack (Simon Pegg) is a children’s author turned crime novelist whose detailed research into the lives of Victorian serial killers has turned him into a paranoid wreck, persecuted by the irrational fear of being murdered.  When Jack is thrown a life-line by his long-suffering agent and a mysterious Hollywood executive takes a sudden and inexplicable interest in his script, what should be his ‘big break’ rapidly turns into his ‘big breakdown’, as Jack is forced to confront his worst demons; among them his love life, his laundry and the origin of all fear.

SIMON PEGG STARS IN A FANTASTIC FEAR OF EVERYTHING

Wednesday 27, July 2011.  Keel Films, in association with Universal Pictures, Indomina Releasing and Pinewood Studios Group, is delighted to announce start of production of psycho-comedy A Fantastic Fear of Everything, starring Simon Pegg. Shooting commenced on 6th July 2011, production is shooting on location in London and at Shepperton Studios.

A Fantastic Fear of Everything is written and directed by musician-turned-filmmaker Crispian Mills, marking his feature debut. He is joined by co-director and animator Chris Hopewell as part of a collaboration with Collision Films, whose award-winning work includes Radiohead’s There There and The Killers’ Smile Like You Mean It.  A Fantastic Fear of Everything is produced by Geraldine Patten.

Universal Pictures will release the film in the UK, as well as Germany, Australia, New Zealand and Latin America. Indomina will release the film in the U.S. and handle sales for all other territories worldwide. Indomina is also providing production financing.

Starring Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible 4, Star Trek) as Jack, and introducing Alan Drake, A Fantastic Fear of Everything also stars Amara Karan (The Darjeeling Limited), Clare Higgins (Hellraiser) and Sheridan Smith (Hysteria).

A Fantastic Fear of Everything is the first film to receive backing from ‘Pinewood Films’ – a new finance initiative for small budget independent British films by the Pinewood Studios Group.

Comic Con 2011 is now done and dusted but that hasn’t stopped images for movies that were promoted there coming out. Bloody Disgusting have what they claim to be the second official image (the first is here if you missed it) from the movie but it doesn’t really show us too much more. I’m also not sure it’s an image from the movie as is shows a man in a high visibility vest wandering around. I guess that doesn’t mean it’s not from the movie but it could just be a set image of the current filming in Iceland.

During Comic Con, director Ridley Scott joined Hall H’s 6500 attendants to talk about the movie via a Satellite link and people seems to love what they saw. If you missed that too, you can catch Ezequiel’s report here which includes the video of Scott talking.
