Universal Studios have released this rather lovely new banner for their new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. These new images of the characters are similar to those that we saw previously of Chris Hemsworth, Kristen Stewart and Charlize Theron and blend them perfectly into this very arty new banner for the movie which is currently shooting at Pinewood Studios right here in the UK.It’s being helmed by Rupert Sanders and will be with us 1st June 2012.

During Comic Con 2011 a few weeks ago, by far the biggest hit article we posted was our live blog for Universal Pictures’ new movie, Snow White and the Huntsman. This is mainly due to the fact that Twilight star, Kristen Stewart is in it! But Stewart aside, the cast for this one is rather fabulous and also includes Charlize Theron, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Toby Jones, Nick Frost, Ray Winstone, Lily Cole, Bob Hoskins and Eddie Marsan (with more in the pipeline!).

It’s so great to see yet another big movie being shot here in the UK and especially at Pinewood Studios which is simply a movie magical place to be with all it’s history!

Snow White and the Huntsman at Pinewood

Snow White and the Huntsman, a new epic action-adventure from Universal Pictures, has now begun production at Pinewood Studios.

The crew has started to construct some fantastic sets on the Studios’ backlot, as well as on some of its world famous stages.

In the film, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar^® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her.  But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the one girl threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her.  Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow White’s beauty and power.

Currently delighting the crowds at Comic-Con Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman panel is showing a lot of early proof of concept footage and some character art along with the Q&A.

Our man in San Diego is liveblogging the event right now and from his comments is looks as though this film is making good on its promise to be a ‘darker, grittier’ take on the fairy tale while the rival Snow White film with Lilly Collins is apparently being played more for laughs.

Charlize Theron tells us that she’s playing the character of the Queen as a serial killer and Kristen Stewart’s Snow White is done up ala Tim Burton’s Alice, in full armour.

The studio are also releasing the character art online, check below for the first pictures of Stewart, Theron, Hunstman Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin.

Comic Con 2011 is now in full flow. NBC Universal are about to kick off with their panel for which stars Charlize Theron, Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Sam Claflin, Ian McShane, Bob Hoskins, Eddie Marsan, Lily Cole, Ray Winstone, Nick Frost, Toby Jones and is directed by Rupert Sanders.

With a new TV adaptation of Wonder Woman gearing up for production, model-turned-‘actress’ Elizabeth Hurley has tweeted this bit of scoop:

“Thrilled to be doing the NBC pilot Wonder Woman. I’ll be playing the evil villain. Can’t wait.”

Not sure if fans of the comic book will be quite as thrilled to discover this. Away from cinema and TV screens for almost a decade now, this would appear to be something of a comeback for Hurley, but considering she appeared in the likes of Serving Sara and Bedazzled before her self-enforced semi-retirement, not sure if the phrase ‘comeback’ is appropriate.

Let’s hope she’s killed off in the first episode before executives at NBC go to the unprecedented length of cancelling a series at that stage, purely on the strength (or weakness) of one of its supporting players.

There’s been speculation over who was going to play the character of Wonder Woman in NBC’s new TV series for quite a while now. But we can now rest easy as Warner Bros. have announced (via Deadline) that Adrianne Palicki who I think I last saw in Legion has been cast as the ironic character and apparently she’s been given an invisible plane to celebrate!

According to Deadline, after a standout performance in Lone Star, she’s been picked to star as the comic book character made famous by Lynda Carter in the 1970s. The series will get a pilot before going into fully fledged production and I guess we’ll see how she gets on. I’m sure there will be a lot of excited people out there ready to see this series back on the big screen.

British comedian, Ricky Gervais is back to present the 2011 Golden Globe ceremony which takes place in LA this Sunday, January 16th (on NBC in the US) and according to this new trailer for the awards, it’s Hollywood’s favourite awards ceremony as it’s live and people are allowed to drink at it!

NBC’s consistently popular spy series Chuck may live under the network’s axe at all times, but its quirky mix of James Bond and The Big Bang Theory has endured through three seasons of double and triple crossing, secrets and seductions and now enters its fourth season still feeling fresh and, most importantly, funny.

Zachary Levi’s charming secret agent begins season four in typical form with a complete inability to escape the world he was, as we find out, born into. The Buy More is now rebuilt and staffed by all-too-efficient fellow operatives and the mysterious name of Volkoff leads our hero to encounter a nicely nasty operative, Marco. Chuck Versus the Anniversary has Dolph Lundgren in fine self effacing form and the family mysteries of the Bartowskis deepens and this is a fine start to the series with Lundgren and repo man Harry Dean Stanton in particular doing great work.

The second and third episodes (Versus the Suitcase, Versus the Cubic Z) don’t have the same spark of the season opener, with a standard weapons based mission taking us through some fairly uninspired cliches while the wider story plays out around it. I’m sidestepping some spoiler mines but it won’t hurt to hint that there’s more awkward and pregnant pauses in our future and the third episode has a nice role for Stone Cold Steve Austin and some great action in the Buy More.

While Chuck and Ellie come clean on family matters in the fourth episode (Versus the Coup d’Etat), there’s something about it that even a cameo from Armand Assante can’t save. I felt as if the series had bigger stories to tell and the very best episodic television can have a dud episode while still propelling, adding to and exploring the wider story arcs. I became impatient, not because the show was no longer fun, but I was really looking to see how Chuck’s maternal revelations would take the show. Though there is something very sweet at the end of the episode and I won’t spoil it if you’ve not seen it yet.

Overall this show is maintaining its place in my affections, but only just. I watched the first four episodes via iTunes, something that was new to me and though I’m late to that particular party the delivery system works very well and the quality on the iPad is something special. The central cast is doing great things with the storylines, and the surfeit of pop culture references works only because of the work of the cast. I’ll keep watching to see how things work out. If you’ve not caught Chuck yet then it’s four seasons in and still going strong.

After blaming critics for Sex and the City’s merciful euthanasia, Kristen Davis appears to have finally moved on. After last year’s disastrous Couples Retreat, the actress will be switching genre’s with Brad Peyton’s Journey to the Centre of the Earth 2 and returning to television with NBC’s The Happiness Project.

The actress will play mother to Josh Hutcherson – who will reprise his role from the original film – and love interest to Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Also involved in the sequel is Michael Caine who sources report will, at some point, be chased by bees.

In addition to Journey 2, Davis will also return to television screens for The Happiness Project, a project for which ‘Charlotte from Sex and the City’ is set to executive produce as well as star.

Based on Gretchen Rubin’s best-selling memoir of the same name, The Happiness Project will follow Davis’ character as she spends a year test driving studies and theories that purport to ensure happiness. Another project promoting self discovery, we can only hope it doesn’t result in endless seasons of Eat Pray Love-level self indulgence.

Currently filming in Hawaii, Journey 2: The Mysterious Island will arrive in cinemas next Autumn.

Josh Schwartz, the creator/executive producer of The O.C., Chuck and Gossip Girl, is working on a brand new TV series for NBC, with Rachel Bilson (The O.C.) set to feature prominently.

Ghost Angeles, a supernatural romantic comedy, is expected to center on a young woman in Los Angeles who can talk to the dead, helping the spirits as much as they are helping her.

Ghost Angeles was co-created by Schwartz and Henry Alonso Myers (Ugly Betty), who will also act as series writers.

The TV series is a co-production from Fake Empire and Warner Bros. TV.

In my opinion, the premise sounds a lot like the CBS drama Ghost Whisperer, but I’m hoping Schwartz and Bilson can create something new, unique and well-worth watching.

Should you be the individual who was holding out for a Heroes feature film to tie up all those meddling loose ends and  finish the forlorn series on a high, news has reached us from EW that you shouldn’t hold your breath.

A ‘key source’ has told the magazine that plans to  wrap up the cancelled drama have been scrapped. This appears to be in spite of creator Tim Kring’s hopes of providing delayed closure for fans.

“No decision has been made,” Kring explained to EW earlier this year.

But the Heroes brand is an extremely broad premise. It was a premise about ordinary people, an undisclosed number of people all over the world, who were waking up to these extraordinary abilities. Any number of stories could happen around that. We never posited a single ending or a single premise.

It wasn’t about getting off of an island or stopping something from happening. We told stories in volumes that had a beginning, a middle, and an end. Those volumes could go on and on and on with many different characters. As a result, that Heroes universe is something that can be tapped into again in many ways.

After a critically acclaimed first season, the series began to waver during the its second season (or ‘volume’) as it began to spread itself thin across an increasingly unwieldy array of characters.

NBC’s decision is unlikely to warrant much of an outcry. By the time the show’s fourth season aired, ratings in the U.S. had plummeted to an average of 6.54 million viewers from 13.86 viewers during season 1.

Do the words ‘final instalment’ mean nothing in Hollywood? Is there some kind of breakdown of communication between American English and English English, because over here final tends to means last, finished, no more.

To DreamWorks, however, the concept of last apparently doesn’t include television specials and the obligatory spin-off. Forever after, a place we left many of our favourite characters from childhood, cannot be that happy if, the next Halloween, they are contracted into another half-hour adventure.

As such, Shrek, along with Kung Fu Panda, will go back to work with ‘Scared Shrekless’ and the less imaginatively titled Kung Fu Panda Holiday Special respectively.

THR report that these specials will follow on the backs of past successes Monsters vs. Aliens: Mutant Pumpkins From Outer Space and Merry Madagascar – continuing the relationship between the animation studio and NBC, who according to President of Primetime Entertainment Angela Bromstad, will bring the shenanigans to it’s schedule.

“NBC is proud to team with DreamWorks Animation to broadcast such quality holiday programming that includes some of their many popular film characters. These animated specials will provide top-flight family entertainment for fans of all ages.”

Shrekless sees Shrek challenge his fairy tale friends to a full night in Lord Farquaad’s haunted castle to exchange ghost stories and will be aired on October 28th. The Kung Fu Panda Special will follow Po’s attempts to host a formal winter feast at the Jade Palace, during which he must choose between his family obligations and his duties as the Dragon Warrior, it will air on November 24th in the U.S.

And then Shrek can live happily ever after…right?

Variety are reporting that the sale of NBC Universal has taken a step closer as the $30 billion value has been agreed by General Electric (which holds an 80% share in the company) and Comcast.

They go on to say:

“Under the proposed deal, Comcast would take a 51% stake.”

“However, it is not a done deal as Vivendi, which holds the remaining 20% in NBC U, is able to veto the pact. The Federal Communications Commission could also scupper the plan on anti-trust grounds.”
