It’s been a long time since we threw our collective voices into the podcasting arena but the Mouth Off Podcast is back with a revised format, some very special guests and an excellent film to get us back on track as we talk about Martin Scorsese’s forthcoming 3D extravanganza Hugo.

We are joined by Cassam Looch from Movie Vortex, Simon Thompson from 5USA’s Inside Hollywood and Matthew Turner from View London  to discuss the merits of Scorsese’s foray into the third dimension and if the film, billed as a family friendly adventure, is as enchanting as we had hoped.

You can read my review of the film here and if you do then you’ll see where I’m coming from but there’s a good amount of discussion on the film’s successes and failures to be had; such a divisive film deserves to be delved into and delve we do.

We hope to do as many of these as possible in the future so if you listen and you like do let us know and we’ll tame this podcasting beast once and for all.

The only thing to kick the Monday morning blues right in the face is here, the latest episode of the Mouth Off podcast hits the internet.

Up for discussion this week is the Harald Zwart’s remake of the classic (?) 80s film The Karate Kid, this time starring Jaden Smith and the Jackie Chan. Bleeding Cool’s Movie Man Brendon Connelly, Craig Skinner and I take off the rose tints and stare deeply into the abyss of the latest remake to hit our screens.

Craig returns triumphant from Montreal to bring us all the news from Fantasia Fest and we also look ahead to FrightFest, so plenty to pleasure you aurally this week, as well as our resident Ripped from the Crypt section which this week takes as a theme films which mix animation with live action.

Ripped from the Crypt time…

Brendon’s choice was The Secret Adventures of Tom Thumb,

I broke the rules a touch and chose two. First up is the Chuck Jones adaptation of Norton Juster’s The Phantom Tollbooth – here’s a scene.

And I couldn’t let this theme pass without Lionel Jefferies’ dark version of The Water Babies,

It’s been a while but the Mouth Off team were too tempted by the furious momentum of Christopher Nolan’s Inception to sit this one out and the podcast returns to take apart the latest film from the man some people claim to be ‘The New Kubrick”.

That and other misguided statements about the film are lined up against the wall and debated to death as Bleeding Cool’s Brendon Connelly and I talk all things Nolan – the films and the hype and we also look closer at why Inception has garnered such a overwhelmingly positive response.

It’s been a busy week on HeyUGuys and to ease the journey into the weekend let’s cosy up and let the calming influence of the Mouth Off podcast wash over us, shall we? Lets.

You’d be hard pressed to find three more diverse films than the ones we’re discussing – a liberal guilt trip with writer/director Nicole Holofcener’s latest Please Give, Craig Skinner talks up Harmony Korine’s Trash Humpers and Brendon Connelly tells us all about the Spanish film Hierro.

We champion the trailer for Mark Romanek’s latest, his adaptation of Never Let Me Go which blew our collective minds, we journey through Oz with some unexpected companions and we rip into Warner Bros’s decision to do a tentpole Don Quixote film.
