Sony have been kind enough to give us the opportunity to debut these new images from their new movie, Faster. The movie hits UK cinemas 25th March, is directed by George Tillman Jr. and stars Carla Gugino, Dwayne Johnson, Maggie Grace, Jennifer Carpenter, Tom Berenger, Billy Bob Thornton, Courtney Gains.

Synopsis: After 10 years in prison, Driver (Dwayne Johnson) has a singular focus — to avenge the murder of his brother during the botched bank robbery that led to his imprisonment. Now a free man with a deadly to-do list in hand, he’s finally on his mission…but with two men on his trail — a veteran cop (Billy Bob Thornton) just days from retirement, and a young egocentric hitman (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) with a flair for the art of killing and newfound worthy opponent. The hunter is also the hunted. It’s a do or die race to the list’s finish as the mystery surrounding his brother’s murder deepens, and new details emerge along the way hinting that Driver’s list may be incomplete.

Our friend James White caught up with Oliver Jackson-Cohen, Moon Bloodgood, Maggie Grace and the main star himself Dwayne Johnson who told us a little bit about the move:

To Maggie Grace: So what can you tell us about your character?

Maggie Grace: Lily and Killer are an unconventional couple. She’s very much a part of his contract killing endeavours. It’s very stylised and fast paced and it’s been a blast. They’re not shopping in IKEA or picking out curtains, it’s a very escapist lifestyle.  She’s had an interesting past and she’s not the girl who’s going to move to the suburbs and marry a dentist. She’s something of an adrenaline junkie, they both live on the edge.

To Maggie Grace: How has training been?

I’m really excited, it’s been a lot of fun. I said, “I wanna learn whatever the boys are learning.” So there’s a fantastic group of consultants we’ve had on this film. I’ve begun to learn to box, I’m pretty good with a .45. I have a Kimber 1911. I’m pretty good with that, I got the reload time down, the finesse of that. One day I tried to switch to Dwayne’s gun, just for fun. It’s a cannon! It looks somewhat at home in his hands, but Oliver and I tried it and it’s hilarious. It’s a Ruger 454 and it’s so heavy. The recoil on that thing literally makes your arm numb for a couple of hours. It’s very intense. That was a humbling experience.

To Moon Bloodgood: How do you interact with Dwayne’s Driver?

Moon Bloodgood: I don’t get any scenes with Dwayne! I was so bummed out. Not that I don’t love Billy Bob, I do, but I’ve seen Dwayne a lot off set but I don’t think we have any scenes together. I feel like Dwayne and I look like we’re brother and sister, right? There’s that mixed ethnicity thing. I’m hoping we’re going to do something where we play siblings.

To Moon Bloodgood: Do you have any stunts?

Moon Bloodgood:I slap Billy. I always feel like that’s a touchy thing because I accidentally broke a guy’s nose when I was working on the TV show Journeyman. Of course he was a day player and it was one of the worst experiences of my life. So going in for anyone’s face really makes me nervous. So I sort of hit him on the side of the neck, because god forbid I connected! That was my one action thing and we got to shove each other a little bit.

To Oliver Jackson-Cohen: Who is your character, Killer?

Oliver Jackson-Cohen: He’s not very straightforward. There’s a big part to him that is very erratic. He’s got a lot of past issues that he is dealing with, and a lot of trauma, so he’s got a very big back story. He’s been going through lots of different processes to try and get himself well. Because he’s so erratic and so bipolar, he’s on heavy medication and the beginning of the film starts with him coming off his medication. So it’s him free-falling.

To Oliver Jackson-Cohen: Why do you think Brits are cast as villains so much?

I have no idea, but I kind of love it. I don’t think he was supposed to be British. When I first read the script, he was supposed to be American and I went in and read it with an American accent and got a call asking if I would come back in and do it in a British accent. And they decided to change it. I speak with my own accent. Very challenging! But they got me a dialect coach because I wasn’t speaking with clarity. Because I’m from London I drop my Ts, so now they have me speaking proper English.

To Dwayne Johnson: Do you have the feeling that you’ve been accepted as an actor, that you’re part of it all now?

Dwayne Johnson: I feel very comfortable in the position I’m in, making the movies I’m making and having a diverse career. This is my 10th year so I’m happy with the choices I made, and pretty satisfied. And it inspires me. My intention when I first got in was to have a diverse career, but starting in the action genre first made the most sense, given where I came from. I knew eventually I wanted to branch out and work in all different genres because ultimately for me, that was how I was going to become a better actor, because I came to the job in a very non-traditional way.

To Dwayne Johnson: What’s the biggest mistake that action movies make that you guys made sure to avoid?

Dwayne Johnson: That’s a good question. I think it all comes down to personal preference. And for me, I appreciate a great action movie, but I also appreciate when the action isn’t just for action’s sake. To think you have to have it every x amount of minutes. So I appreciate when it’s done in a precise way, when it’s more meaningful and you go back to those old movies of the past.

Collider have posted some new images from Shawn Ku’s Beautiful Boy.

Beautiful Boy stars Michael Sheen, Maria Bello, Moon Bloodgood, Kyle Gallner, Austin Nichols, Meat Loaf and Alan Tudyk.

Co-written by Shawn Ku and Michael Armbruster, Beautiful Boy has been selected to screen at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival, which kicks off next month.

Filmmakers have explored the subject of school shootings in the past, but first-time feature director Shawn Ku finds a unique perspective on this delicate issue. Rather than focusing on the tragic incident and the events leading up to it, Beautiful Boy confronts its devastating aftermath. Moreover, the killer is almost entirely absent throughout the film. In his place, we look through the eyes of his parents, who struggle to find refuge from the public and from media backlash, while overcoming their own sudden loss.

In two of the most heartrending performances in recent memory, Maria Bello and Michael Sheen play parents in a rocky marriage who are hit with the shocking news that their eighteen-year-old son has committed a mass shooting at his college before taking his own life.

With a maturity and comprehension beyond his years, Ku (who co-wrote the screenplay with Michael Armbruster) shows remarkable insight into two middle-aged parents faced with unspeakable anguish. Separated from the rest of the world by this incomprehensible act, they find their marital troubles gradually taking a back seat to the traumatic situation thrust upon them.

Credit must also go to the film’s stellar supporting cast, who add further weight to this difficult story. Moon Bloodgood, Alan Tudyk and Meat Loaf Aday are perfectly cast as bystanders to the slow-burning wreckage at hand.

Beautiful Boy is fearless. It defies convention to shed light on something that many similarly topical films have shied away from. The result is a bleak yet rewarding experience that dares to challenge not only its audience, but also previous investigations of this dark subject.

This is a great month for Blu-ray releases, with a series of blockbusters tailor made for the High Def generation taking advantage of the new format. Terminator Salvation, released tomorrow, is a perfect example of a film given the deluxe HD treatment, not only in terms of sound and picture quality but also in the Blu-ray exclusive extras available.

Our review of the film is here, and it was one of the few positive reviews the film garnered. While the bleak aesthetic and the hopeless atmosphere which pervades the film are convincingly conveyed in the production design many were disappointed that McG had not managed to elicit a similarly complex and convincing response from the cast.

Worthington aside the performances are plain and perfunctory, and while the familiar Terminator tropes are present the film played out the epic action without the shadows of destiny and fate behind it. The thrill of the first two Terminator films depended on our involvement in the world, the fear of these killing machines invading our world, but as this film bears more resemblance to the post apocalyptic worlds of Mad Max and I Am Legend than our own the connection is lost.

As I mentioned Sam Worthington is impressive as Marcus Wright, and ironically is the heart of this film, but the narratives of Wright’s self-discovery and Connor’s survival against all odds fail to complement and dovetail until the very end, and only the barest of epiphanies is gained.

On Blu-ray the film perhaps will get a revision. The picture looks incredible and the CG-heavy action scenes are rendered beautifully on the disc, and the Terminators themselves, their cities, their attack ships and their multiple models, many of which we haven’t seen before, look impressive and Blu-ray users can choose to watch the film in the company of its director, McG, and learn more about the film’s production.

Two new Blu-ray features on the disc are indicators of the direction Blu-ray is being taken in – CineChat via the BDLive option allows you to chat with other BDLive users also viewing the film, and MovieIQ (think imdb and trivia on the screen itself) is present, giving a greater depth to avid viewers who want to know more.

The other featurettes are all interesting, as the world of the Terminator franchise is such a rich one, you may spend more time (and get more enjoyment) watching these behind the scenes snippets.

The 7.1 sound is truly incredible and the force of the gears grinding as slow Terminator behemoths smash up the scarred remains of Earth are given greater impact with the sound design. Bringing home the cinema experience is nearly at hand, and these films, Terminator Salvation included, are great examples of big films which maintain their size when bought home on Blu-ray.

While the film is a passable affair, with a few great performances and stunning looks, the Blu-ray redeems the film somewhat, check out the Blu-ray trailer below.
