We love McG here at HeyUGuys mainly because he recently serenaded Ben on the red carpet at the premiere of his new movie and it made us laugh a lot! This video below could probably go down as one of the most random videos we’ve ever posted on HeyUGuys. It was so random that I thought it needed to go up! While searching for videos on YouTube for This Means War, I can across this rather crazy footage which basically shows director McG and one of the stars of the film Tom Hardy dropping their pants (in the English sense of the word) and getting shot in the bum with paintball guns!

It was obviously part of a dare and it’s interesting to see that neither Chris Pine nor Reese Witherspoon joined the two crazy blokes in the fun! One thing it does show is that McG is obviously a man that you want to have around if you’re up for a bit of fun on set and also that Tom Hardy is up for anything.

I’d give some caution that this video is probably NSFW and contains swearing but is a rather funny watch as it shows two famous people having a lot of fun!

This Means War is released March 2nd and if you missed it yesterday, here’s nine minutes of the film for you to watch. We also have interviews with Reese, McG and Chris Pine from the UK premiere and we’ll have a more in-depth video with McG nearer the release of the movie.

Enjoy!

It’s an extended scene from the film which shows Chris Pine and Tom Hardy finding out that they are both dating the same girl, a certain Reese Witherspoon.

The movie is directed McG who is the man who brought us Charlie’s Angels and Terminator Salvation so he know knows how to make an action movie. In the clip, we get to see a rather great selection of comedy and action and I am actually really excited to see it!

The world’s deadliest CIA operatives are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman. Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis ever – each other.

You may have already seen the clip from the video where McG serenades me. Remarkably that wasn’t even the first time that had happened that day. In addition to the full interview with McG, where we spoke about his hopes for the movie, the influence the Bond franchise and Oceans 11 have had on the film, and the ‘R’-rating it originally received in the US.

We also spoke with Chris Pine about the relationship between the male leads in the film, and got a quick snippet from Reese Witherspoon about the appeal of This Means War, and her love of small dramatic movies.

Check out the interview below, and check back in a few weeks time for our interview with McG. This Means War is released March 2nd.

Last night, Ben Mortimer and Colin Hart attended the UK premiere of This Means War in Kensington, London (see their full report including interviews with Reese Witherspoon and Chris Pine shortly) and ended up being serenaded by the film’s director.

This footage shows what sort of atmosphere was on the carpet last night as Ben Mortimer’s dreams came true as the Terminator Salvation Director, McG decided to sing Michael Jackson’s song ‘Ben’ to him on the spot!

It’s directed by McG who recently brought us Terminator Salvation. If you missed the trailer for the movie, you can have a little watch here. I’m not too sure what to make of it if I’m honest. It could well prove to be good harmless fun and time will no doubt tell.

Two of the world’s top secret agents are best friends who never let anything come between them — until they inadvertently fall for the same woman. It’s all-out war, as the two spies battle each other with high-tech surveillance, advanced tactics, and an arsenal capable of bringing down a small country.

This poster is (I think) the same as the previous teaser poster that we saw a while back except this time it’s in colour and has a QR code.

Click the poster to make it grow big and scroll down for a new 60 second TV spot.

Personally, I loathed the Charlie’s Angels films, but found Terminator Salvation pretty interesting and enjoyable and I’m prepared to give McG a chance to continue to redeem himself.

His next effort in that rehabilitation is This Means War, which sees Chris Pine (Star Trek, Unstoppable) and Tom Hardy (Bronson, Inception) as secret agents/spies/something exciting who find out that they are both dating the same woman, Reese Witherspoon. They appear to fall out over her in a big way, as the existing trailer amply demonstrated.

We now have a new international trailer, though there is very little that is new here. What remains clear is that getting Pine and Hardy on board was a massive coup for what could have been (and what might yet be) a deeply terrible film. They both have bundles of charisma and charm and fit effortlessly into the blend of physicality and light-hearted banter that their respective roles require. McG can direct action, but whether he can give us something about which we truly care is another question entirely. This could be throwaway nonsense, or it could be a lot of fun (or both). We will see. For now, watch and enjoy.

As an action/comedy/romance film, it shouldn’t be taking itself too seriously, and when you’ve got Tom Hardy, Reese Witherspoon, and Chris Pine in the leads, you should be on to a winner.

We’ve now got a new poster to share with you that gives us a look at the leading men suited and booted, gun in hand, and Witherspoon standing between them looking better than ever.

“The world’s deadliest CIA operatives are inseparable partners and best friends until they fall for the same woman. Having once helped bring down entire enemy nations, they are now employing their incomparable skills and an endless array of high-tech gadgetry against their greatest nemesis ever – each other.”

Witherspoon seems to be one of those actresses capable of suppressing the ageing process, looking as young here as she did back in 1999 in Cruel Intentions. The tagline, ‘It’s Spy Against Spy’, seems a bit flat to me, but I’m naturally not going to let it put me off the film.

McG’s last offering in the director’s chair was Terminator Salvation, which I thought was pretty great, so I’ve got high hopes for his follow-up. This Means War will be with us on 17th February next year, and until then, I leave you with the new poster to enjoy. As usual, click to enlarge.

Terminator Salvation seems to be cinematic marmite, though that does at least leave some who like it (myself among them) and This Means War, though by no means thematically ground-breaking, does at least look like good honest fun from the trailer we’ve now seen.

The abruptly-monickered one may well have a new project lined up, in the shape of “Puzzle Palace” for Summit. The script has been written by David Guggenheim (Medallion, Safe House, Exit Strategy) and involves a veteran police officer seemingly framed for murder and his son having to break into New York’s primary police HQ to try to retrieve crucial evidence. The son gets locked in and must then deal with (surprise, surprise) corrupt cops, no doubt intent upon covering their tracks and keeping the father from being exonerated.

To be fair, that sounds like a reasonably decent premise, part Die Hard, part 16 Blocks, part Assault on Precinct 13. That title will have to go though. Seriously, Puzzle Palace? Cripes.

McG is “in negotiations”, while still working post-production on This Means War. No doubt the producers will want to see what kind of finished product he comes up with on that film, before deciding whether to let him loose on another action thriller.

It has a great collection of A-listers in the cast including Tom Hardy, Chris Pine and Reese Witherspoon and when you see the synopsis, you may wonder why. It looks a little bit like Mr. and Mrs. Smith which starred Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in the way the story unfolds and I guess it was a chance for the leads to unwind and make a fun silly movie, especially for Tom Hardy who has done a lot of serious roles recently.

When the trailer started, I thought it looks pretty bad but by the end, I was willing to go with it and enjoy it for what it is so here’s hoping it lives up to the idea and is a lot of fun. It’s out President’s Day in the US which (after looking that up) is the 17th February which is actually the same day we’ll get it here in the UK.

Witherspoon’s career has been a mixture of serious and light-hearted roles, and she can play both very well, and Wish List looks set to be one of the latter.

The film will see,

“an overly imaginative little girl who makes ten wishes at a wishing well. They don’t come true because her coin never reached the bottom and eventually she loses her inner child and becomes a full grown and ambitious career woman. Some 25 years later, the coin is dislodged, falls to the bottom and she has to deal with the ramifications of 10 kid wishes coming true all at once.”

Though Witherspoon is an actress who might get overlooked when thinking of stellar talent, don’t forget that she won herself a well deserved Best Actress Oscar back in 2005 for her portrayal of June Carter in Walk The Line, beating both Dame Judi Dench and Charlize Theron for the award. I thought she was excellent in this year’s Water for Elephants, proving she’s certainly still on top of her game. She’ll also be starring in the McG-directed, This Means War, due out in February next year, alongside Tom Hardy and Chris Pine, who play two CIA agents that vie for her love and consequentially wage an epic war against each other.

Wish List is to be written by Randi Mayem Singer, who wrote the classic Mrs. Doubtfire in the early ’90s and the Dwayne Johnson-starrer, Tooth Fairy, both of which were very successful at the box office. It will be produced by Mark Ciardi and Gordon Gray, who have frequently collaborated with Disney on a handful of previous films, including Invincible, The Game Plan, and last year’s Secretariat.

A young child’s dreams being realized for her future serious adult self certainly has the potential to make for a good film. Perhaps not an amazing film, but a nice uplifting Disney film nonetheless, and Witherspoon sounds like a great choice to lead the cast. No names are being mentioned about directing yet, so more news as and when we get it.

Maintenance, an Oni Press comic book, “follows the exploits of two janitors who work for TerroMax, Inc., the world’s biggest and best evil science think tank. When they’re not dealing with toxic spill monsters and menial time machine repairs, they have to contend with their boss, a multitude of mad scientists, jetpack-equipped cavemen, alien repomen, and the cute girl who works at reception”.

The comic book was written by Jim Massey and illustrated by Robbi Rodriquez.

Warner Bros. previously held the adaptation rights as a possible vehicle for McG, but the rights were let go during a turnaround from the studio.

THR reported this.

/Film is running a story that the actor is teaming up again with Simon West (the director of that 1997 feature) for Medallion, which is the tale of a retired master thief who is on the hunt for his missing daughter, who has been abducted and locked in the trunk of a New York Medallion Taxi Cab.

Another action director, McG, is on board as one of the producers and the script is by newcomer David Guggenheim, (whose screenplay, Safe House, has been set up at Universal with leads Ryan Reynolds and Denzel Washington attached).

West (who has the Jason Statham vehicle The Mechanic due out early next year) must be hoping that lightning will strike twice with this second collaboration with Cage. I think it’s almost certain that they won’t be able to match that level of gleefully ridiculous tone again, however.

The Playlist brings us news now that Angela Bassett (What’s Love Got To Do With It?, Supernova) has joined the cast, as a senior CIA agent (just how out of control are Hardy and Pine going to get?) and they have also brought us the on-set snaps set out below. From the look of them, Pine and Hardy are getting stuck into each other nicely and given how well they have both handled action and fight sequences in the past, a dust up between them should be plenty of fun.

This Means War is due for release in 2011, possibly during what is already looking like a pretty crowded summer schedule.

Comingsoon are reporting that a US production company are seeking the rights to allow them to develop a CG 3D animated movie, featuring Sarah Connor, Kyle Reese and the Arnie Terminator.

To make matter worse, the report claims the companies have sent out a press release which states they’re aiming for a PG-13 rating, and violence will be kept down to a minimal. Oh dear!

I know McG’s take on the Terminator mythology didn’t do the franchise any favours, but this sounds like a truly horrendous idea and one which is sure to turn fans away as opposed to winning them back!

It’s not the first time a promising first feature (and sequel in this case) has given way to a case of diminishing returns and kid-friendly content (hello Robocop!) but you would have thought the lessons had been learned from examples like this.

Sadly it seems nothing is sacred as long as Hollywood can keep pulling at the teats of these popular cash cows.

We reported here that McG has spies-competing-in-love film “This Means War” next on his slate. Today, news comes from Pajiba, via Empire, that he’s looking at high concept comic book adaption RIPD to fill his time after that.

RIPD sees two deceased cops patrolling the streets, keeping the assorted spirits they encounter from misbehaving. One of the two is recently deceased (Ryan Reynolds is believed to be playing him), with the other a gunslinger who has been dead for centuries. Pajiba say that Zach Galifianakis was at one point on the Universal wish-list for the centuries-dead gunslinger role. That certainly sounds like an intriguing piece of casting, but we will have to file it under “speculation” for the moment.

Given how busy Ryan Reynolds is at the moment, RIPD is going to have to wait a while if it is to progress with him on board. As always, we will let you know as soon as we hear any more news.

Vulture have reported that Sam (Avatar should keep me in employment for at least the next 20 years) Worthington has turned down the one of the lead roles in his Terminator Salvation director McG’s action/romantic comedy This Means War.

Fear not however, as one of the UK’s fast rising (and most interesting) stars, Tom Hardy, has stepped in. He’ll co-star alongside Captain of the Enterprise Chris Pine in a film which will see them playing two lifelong best friends who wage an epic battle against one another after both falling in love with the same woman (Reese Witherspoon).

Apparently the script has been bouncing around Hollywood for quite some time, with a number of actors (including the likes of James Franco and Bradley Cooper) attached at various points.

Normally the idea of a new McG feature going into production, combined with this film’s rather flimsy sounding premise (Hardy and Pine are both playing spies) hardly screams out must-see cinema, but the calibre of cast McG has managed to assemble here is really beginning to sell it to me.

Hardy (soon to play an updated version of Mad Max opposite Charlize Theron in Mad Max: Fury Road) has delivered nothing but sterling work in his short career, and his current playful turn as roguish team member Eames in Inception has helped to solidify his reputation. Pine was extremely charismatic as the legendary James. T, so maybe there is potential for some real fun here.

What are your thoughts?

Little is known about the project, which is being labelled a romantic comedy.

The movie, which “plays on the mischievous nature of the Tinkerbell character”, will be produced by Adam Shankman, Jennifer Gibgot and McG. Elizabeth Wright Shapiro, who helped develop the project with McG, is set to pen the script.

Banks, who will next be seen in Paul Haggis’ The Next Three Days alongside Russell Crowe, is perhaps best known for her role in Scrubs as Zach Braff’s love interest. She has also had notable roles in Zach and Miri Make a Porno, The Uninvited and as Betty Brant in the Spider-Man franchise.

Despite the actresses involvement, and even though there has been a number of individuals shepherding the movie into production, the involvement of McG can’t help but turn a few noses. After all, Charlies Angels, Charlies Angels: Full Throttle and Terminator: Salvation were, if we’re being honest, a bit rubbish.

That said, the last time Disney went live-action with the J. M. Barrie’s universe we were treated to Peter Pan (2003), a surprisingly mature take on the character and world.

Bank’s involvement may be a step in the right direction, but whether she warrants enough pixie-dust to raise ‘Tink‘ in our estimations has yet to be seen.

It’s a marvelously erratic move for both Fincher and Disney, and according to the post from THR Fincher approached Disney with a view to direct a family friendly tentpole movie and 20,000 Under the Sea appears to be that project. Scott Z. Burns is on the case with the script, his previous work includes The Bourne Ultimatum and The Informant! and there’s every chance this will have nothing to do with the abandoned McG Captain Nemo movie which recently fell from grace, allowing Fincher to pick it up.

The 1954 version of the film had Kirk Douglas, Peter Lorre and the sublime James Mason and was a delicious take on the story, and is usually the source of the first images conjured up by the title, so Fincher will have to work hard to crowbar our preconceptions from the property. As this is still in the development stages there seems to be plenty of time for Fincher to complete the, arguably unnecessary, Girl with Dragon Tattoo adaptation.
