Here’s a nice new set of posters for Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to the 2009 movie, Clash of the Titans. This 2012 movie stars Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramirez, Bill Nighy, Toby Kebbell, Rosamund Pike and is directed by Jonathan Liebesman.

Rather like these new posters although what the heck is going on with Sam Worthington’s hair?! I think it’s the background but it makes him look like he has a lovely perm from 1982! We can expect to see the movie 30th March. No doubt we’ll see the other characters appear on their own poster rather than in the montage that we see below…..

We are literally just days away from the 3D re-release of the first film in one of cinema’s biggest franchises, Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. Yesterday, we saw some never-before-seen images that took us behind the scenes of the film. And today, we have a great new featurette, courtesy of Yahoo Movies, in which we see George Lucas and John Knoll, VFX supervisor, discussing the process of the 3D conversion for the re-release.

Listening to them talk, it sounds like they’re going for a different approach to most 3D films these days, and not going for the gratuitous shots of things coming at you out of the screen, but are seeking to use the technology instead to give the image greater depth within itself.

Definitely an interesting take on things, and of course we get some brilliant clips spliced between Lucas and Knoll’s interviews. As Lucas says,

“Whether you see it in 3D or see it in 2D, see it on the big screen. There’s nothing like it.”

Provided the converted film is received well, the expectation is that we’ll get to see a 3D re-release for each of the six Star Wars films once a year over the next six years, which is most certainly something to look forward to.

Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace 3D is released here in the UK on Thursday, 9^th February, and you can catch up on the official trailer for the re-release beneath the featurette in case you’ve missed it. I didn’t get a chance to see the film when it was first released back in 1999 (in my defence, I’d only just turned nine at the time), so I can’t wait to see it on the big screen for the first time.

There’s a lot riding on this re-release of George Lucas’s Star Wars films (now with added 3D) as this falls before the re-unleashing of James Cameron’s Titanic later in the year and all eyes will be as much on the quality of the post-conversion process as the film itself.

There’s no doubt that The Phantom Menace has a unique place in Star Wars history and it’ll be very interesting to see how the film plays thirteen years later and without the enormous expectation it was greeted with all those years ago.

I spoke to some veteran ILMers last year for the Blu-ray release of the films and their response was firmly that Lucas wouldn’t be doing this if it wasn’t just right. Say what you like about the changes made over the years there are few films which could lead the 3D Classic-o-convert (my new name for the process of post converting the favourite films of yesteryear) revolution as readily as these.

We’re due to see the film in a couple of days and we’ve got our hands on a number of images, never before seen, peeking behind the scenes of the film’s production as well as reminding us that it’s not all about Jar Jar.

Things have been looking pretty impressive from Peter Berg’s Battleship ever since we got our first teaser trailer for the film back in the summer last year, followed by a host of more great things since. We got a sneak peek at the Super Bowl TV Spot for the film on Friday, and now we have the full-length, minute-long spot to bring you for your viewing pleasure.

Adapting the well-known and -loved Hasbro board game into a feature film sounded almost impossible, but now that we’ve got an idea of what it’s going to look like, it looks pretty damn awesome.

The film has an impressive cast, including rising star Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker, Josh Pence, and of course, Rihanna, who makes her acting debut with this.

More images from the sequel to the best advert for Viewmaster in years, Wrath of the Titans returns Sam Worthington to a post-Kraken world to fend off more Gods and Monsters and lucky for us that Liam Neeson (in full Cylon regalia hopefully) and Ralph Fiennes return with him.

Rosamund Pike is on English-deity duty and they’ve taken the rather startling decision to post convert the film into 3D, a move which isn’t surprising despite the reaction from the attempt to shoe-horn a third dimension into the previous film. Here’s hoping everything turns out fine.

Darren Aronofsky’s follow-up to his sleeper success, Black Swan, has been talked about for since the summer of last year, and though it sounds like it’s been progressing nicely, it’s been missing one important thing: a cast.

It looks like that could all be changing. Christian Bale was first in talks for the titular role in Noah, but his involvement on Terrence Malick’s upcoming films meant that he wouldn’t be able to work it into his schedule. Michael Fassbender was then announced as being eyed for the lead, but it looks like his next project, Twelve Years A Slave, which will reunite him with Steve McQueen, will also rule him out because of scheduling.

Deadline are now reporting that Aronofsky is very much interested in Russell Crowe for the lead in his stead, and though nothing’s set in stone yet (biblical pun is not intended), things are looking good. And as if that wasn’t good enough, Liam Neeson is also wanted for another role.

We heard late last month that the project calls for a villain, someone who will try and instil doubt in Noah, and it could well be that Neeson would take that role. Though that report was based on a little (fairly sound) hearsay, Russell Crowe circling the lead would certainly seem to lend it some credence. We heard that the role of Noah would be most likely to go to someone in their forties, putting a further question mark over Fassbender’s head, at a young thirty-four, which in turn lends support for the possibility of Crowe taking it, age forty-seven.

The Academy Award-winning Crowe has played some of the best-known roles cinema has given us in recent years, very much deservedly taking the Best Actor Oscar for his role in Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. If he comes on board (again, pun not intended), Noah would re-unite him with his Gladiator scribe, John Logan, who’s been working on a re-write for the original script from Aronofsky and his producing partner, Ari Handel.

No word on a precise release date yet, but the last we heard from the film suggested it was aiming for a summer shoot this year, with an eye to be released in the autumn of 2013. Be sure to keep an eye on this one, because it sounds like it’s going to be immense. More as we get it.

Another movie out in the UK today is Liam Neeson’s new effort, The Grey. It’s directed by Joe Carnahan who worked with Neeson on The A-Team and co-stars Dermot Mulroney, James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, Frank Grillo. If you missed our review of the film, you can see it here.

In The Grey, Liam Neeson leads an unruly group of oil-rig roughnecks when their plane crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. Battling mortal injuries and merciless weather, the survivors have only a few days to escape the icy elements and a vicious pack of rogue wolves on the hunt before their time runs out.

There’s a new Red Band trailer for Joe Carnahan’s testosterone-fuelled man’s man flick The Grey and everything is looking suitably gruff. Amongst Liam Neeson’s growling and the trailer’s gleeful use of the word ‘f**k’, the film looks to revel in its back-to-basics, battle-in-the-wilderness premise.

Although this isn’t surprising coming from Carnahan, who has never been afraid to air his predilection for men being men, starting out as he did with the film Blood, Guts , Bullets and Octane. Add to this his recent adaptation of The A-Team and the underrated Smokin’ Aces and what we obviously have is a man familiar with the mechanics of action and the on-screen delivery of a hell of a lot of violence.

On general release next week, The Grey is looking interesting if not ground-breakingly subtle and since his transition into action films, Neeson is always good value.

A group of oil-rig roughnecks are left stranded on the sub-arctic tundra after their plane experiences a complete mechanical failure and crashes into the remote Alaskan wilderness. The survivors, battling mortal injuries, biting cold and ravenous hunger, are relentlessly hunted and pursued by a vicious pack of rogue wolves.

All seems in order then. Roughnecks (read: MEN), check. Wilderness, check. MORTAL injuries, BITING cold, RAVENOUS hunger, RELENTLESSLY hunted, VICIOUS pack of rogue wolves, check. It sounds INTENSE. Let’s hope it is, although I’m not sure how a pack of wolves can actually go rogue. Who cares? There’s no room for thinking when you’re busy surviving your mortal injuries. Whatever that means…

Liam Neeson has carved a rather comfortable nook for himself of late, as Hollywood’s brooding badass from across the shore. But there’s more behind that uncompromising gravelly voice and quietly threatening steely glare, as Joe Carnahan (Narc) proves in his adaptation of Ian MacKenzie Jeffers’ short ‘Ghost Walker‘, taking Neeson’s safe pair of Irish hands to the Alaskan wilderness for a run with the wolves… and boy are they bitey.

Set at the frozen ends of the Earth, amongst a desolate Oil Rig made up of fugitives, crooks, and has-beens, we meet Ottway (Neeson), a wolf hunter who is lost and alone, tortured by memories of a past love (Anna Friel). During a flight back to civilisation, their plane crashes in the snowy tundra, leaving eight alive to face nature’s harshest environment – battered, bruised, and hunted by a territorially violent pack of wolves. No time for a snowball fight, believe you me.

Director Carnahan sets his talented stool out from the start, quickly painting the distant and isolated canvas before unleashing what has to be one of cinema’s most authentic plane crash scenes. Skilfully toying with both sound and pacey editing, you’re thrown into the falling cabin with terrifyingly placed off-key losses of sound before sudden bursts of ripping metal forcefully grab your attention by the scruff of its bloodied neck. Then there’s the wreckage. As Ottway stumbles his way through the carnage to find survivors, hearts are in mouths when he discovers and has to calm a terrified dying colleague. It makes for tearfully gripping, but not easy viewing.

Which is to say that The Grey isn’t just action/thriller film. It has heart, punctured and sorrowful yet it may be; each character uncovers personal resentments and regrets in some shape or form over its course. Neeson binds the group together, the torn sticky tape that struggles limply to force them trudging on through the snow as the frozen proverbial hits the fan. He is superb, packing a punch that is as exciting as it is emotional. Yes, his usual grizzly growl is present and ready to rumble, but it comes packaged with grief, as his painful memories fade into reality with an increasingly distorting and heartbreaking presence. Scares are plentiful in the form of the blood thirsty pack of hounds, but they’re hand-in-hand with a deeper fear really resting in the frightening resignation and finality of death as the real wolf at the door.

For those with thrills and horror in mind, The Grey will delight, but what lies at its core is dread, isolation and inevitability. With great support from an unrecognisable Dermot Mulroney (Abduction, Zodiac) and blistering bravado from Frank Grillo (Warrior), the film is an unrelenting dose of death with a brilliantly intense Liam Neeson, who takes the crown in a star turn that reminds us he can comfortably tick the boxes marked pain-stricken as well as those action-packed.

As Wikipedia would have it (and I’m sure you know), “Battleship is an upcoming 2012 science fiction naval war film based on the game of the same name”. A science fiction naval war film to place amongst the illustrious canon of science fiction naval war films, I’m sure. A science fiction naval war film that will turn the tables on the haters and their grim view (or indeed lack of any view whatsoever) of the science fiction naval war film genre. And with a budget of $200 million it’ll be a science fiction naval war film fit to rule them all.

Outside of satisfying the niche that no one ever considered filling, however, you may be thinking how the hell those maniacs over at Hasbro have turned a table-top classic into a Hollywood blockbuster. Well they’ve done it by disregarding the intricacies of the guess-’em-up boardgame and by taking a more bombastic, alien-heavy approach in which ships battle in a way that tenuously pertains to the title and the game itself. But with aliens, which doesn’t really pertain at all:

The new poster seems to promise much battling by at least one unlucky ship, probably with that humongous alien thing rising up out of the sea. Remember that time when you were playing Battleships with your dad when you were a kid and your dad said D4 and an extra-terrestrial monstrosity rose up and put a load of explosive shells into your four-square long one and it exploded and you cried? Me neither, but the film does look like a load of dumb fun with Liam Neeson looking to carry on his recent (and very successful) Samuel L. Jackson-esque “I’ll star in anything you can pay me enough for” streak, albeit tragically induced by the untimely death of his wife.

I myself am looking forward to the whole “I have never ever seen a man waste himself better than you” thing Neeson and Taylor Kitsch have got going on in the trailer. It’s going to be facile beyond belief but so’s the game – see I knew there was another connection in there somewhere.

One thing’s for sure. In 2012 ships will most definitely battle:

Peter Berg’s return behind the camera for a feature film is one that I’ve been waiting a while for, and settling on the Battleship project, the film adaptation of the Hasbro board game, was definitely an interesting choice that a lot of people were surprised by. The concept in itself seemed a little unimaginable.

But when the first teaser trailer debuted back in the summer, followed by the second earlier this month, we got a look at the awesome scope of the film, and it looks set to be a brilliant blockbuster when it arrives next summer. We’ve now got a great new Japanese trailer to share with you, via ComingSoon.net, that features plenty of excellent footage of buildings collapsing, giant ships flying out of the water, and much, much more on that sort of scale.

The film is the second starring Taylor Kitsch that we’ll get to see next year, and the other, John Carter, has just had a Japanese trailer released this holiday period too, so if you’re a fan of his work like me, feel free to click on over here to catch that trailer as well.

After what Berg did last time around on Hancock, I’m really looking forward to seeing how Battleship turns out. Judging by what we’ve seen so far, it’s set to be pretty visually impressive, and this new trailer only supports that. When the building crashes, it does admittedly look a little like that moment in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, but considering as that looked awesome, and so does this, I’m choosing to see that as a good thing.

Battleship is set to come out in the States on 18^th May, but we’ll be getting it a little earlier here in the UK, where it will be released on 20^th April. Without further ado, here’s the great new trailer. Enjoy.

Well, it is Christmas time and all I want for Christmas is a Dark Knight trailer, a Hobbit trailer and a Prometheus trailer… oh and some new images from The Dark Knight Rises!

Well, we can source most of these for you and in a few hours, we’ll also have a nice shiny new trailer for Ridley Scott’s Prometheus but to tide us over (it’s now here!) while we wait, here’s some nice new images from The Dark Knight Rises. Following on from the new trailer that just went live (see it here), we’ve just received some great new images and a new US poster for Battleship which hits 20th April in the UK and 18th in the US. Here’s the first look image from Wrath of the Titans, the sequel to the 2009 movie, Clash of the Titans that if I’m, honest, wasn’t very good but still managed to bring in nearly half a billion dollars at the worldwide box office.The sequel stars Sam Worthington, Toby Kebbell, Rosamund Pike, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson, Danny Huston, Edgar Ramirez and Bill Nighy and will be with us in the UK 30th March 2012.

A decade after his heroic defeat of the monstrous Kraken, Perseus—the demigod son of Zeus—is attempting to live a quieter life as a village fisherman and the sole parent to his 10-year old son, Helius.

Meanwhile, a struggle for supremacy rages between the gods and the Titans. Dangerously weakened by humanity’s lack of devotion, the gods are losing control of the imprisoned Titans and their ferocious leader, Kronos, father of the long-ruling brothers Zeus, Hades and Poseidon. The triumvirate had overthrown their powerful father long ago, leaving him to rot in the gloomy abyss of Tartarus, a dungeon that lies deep within the cavernous underworld.

Perseus cannot ignore his true calling when Hades, along with Zeus’ godly son, Ares (Edgar Ramírez), switch loyalty and make a deal with Kronos to capture Zeus. The Titans’ strength grows stronger as Zeus’ remaining godly powers are siphoned, and hell is unleashed on earth.

Enlisting the help of the warrior Queen Andromeda (Rosamund Pike), Poseidon’s demigod son, Argenor (Toby Kebbell), and fallen god Hephaestus (Bill Nighy), Perseus bravely embarks on a treacherous quest into the underworld to rescue Zeus, overthrow the Titans and save mankind.

Liam Neeson’s new movie, The Grey has just gotten a full length theatrical trailer courtesy of Moviefone (via the chaps at Firstshowing). It stars Liam Neeson, Dermot Mulroney, James Badge Dale, Dallas Roberts, Joe Anderson, Frank Grillo and is directed by Joe Carnahan who previously brought us The A-Team in which Neeson played Hannibal Smith.

Universal Studios have just released the first featurette for their new movie, Battleship which is set for release next year. In this featurette which has the name ‘real heroes’, we get to hear from the real life US marines that have helped to make the movie. Most of the extras that you’ll see in this movie are actual marines doing the job and have helped Director Peter Berg to make the movie as real as possible.
