Here’s a new image of Johnny Depp and co-star and former Bond Girl, Eva Green from their new movie Dark Shadows with Eva sporting a lovely blonde barnet. Dark Shadows is the latest from Tim Burton which probably goes without saying when you look at the styling of the image below and those we’ve seen so far from the movie. I’m about to wriote the rest of the cast down. Can you guess who it might be?! OK, let me put you out of your misery.

Another image of Johnny Depp in Tim Burton‘s retelling of the 1966-1971 classic gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows, has been released this week. No trailer yet, but Depp looks better and better each image we see, so for most that’s already enough to look forward to on its own.

Dark Shadows follows Barnabas Collins (Depp), a wealthy playboy who is transformed into a vampire and buried by a jilted lover, Angelique (Eva Green). After being dug up 200 years later, Collins attempts to reintegrate with his descendants, led by Elizabeth (Michelle Pfeiffer) and Roger (Jonny Lee Miller), whilst he also crosses the path with various monsters, witches, werewolves and ghosts, all of whom have secrets.

Burton recently talked about his project, calling it “a weird soap opera.” The film also stars Helena Bonham Carter and Chloë Grace Moretz, and is set to be released 11th May.

Unpredictably co-directed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who brought us Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, the film adaptation of the 1980s hit TV show 21 Jump Street has been receiving great reviews on its early preview screenings, and it looks like we’ve got a great action comedy in store for us in a few months’ time.

The film is led by Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum, with a great supporting cast that includes Ice Cube, Brie Larson, Dave Franco, The Office’s Ellie Kemper, and a cameo from Johnny Depp himself, star of the original show.

A new international trailer has hit the web, courtesy of Trailer Addict via The Playlist, giving us a look at a few new scenes that we’ve not seen in any of the earlier trailers so far (you can catch up on them and everything else 21 Jump Street-related right here).

“In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.”

Co-written by Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World) and Hill himself, I think 21 Jump Street should be one of the funniest comedies this year, and I’m looking forward to it. The scene in this new trailer where Hill just plain pushes his mum’s friend into a box of shoes might be straightforward physical comedy, but it works. Along with Tatum and his female teacher. All great stuff. It’s set to be released here on 16^th March, so we’ve got less than two months to wait now. Enjoy.

Warner Bros. has shared a new photograph of Johnny Depp and Michelle Pfeiffer this week, showing the undead couple in Tim Burton’s retelling of the 1966-1971 classic gothic soap opera, Dark Shadows.

We got the first two red and green band trailers for the upcoming 21 Jump Street film adaptation back in November, and they looked so great. Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill look to have such great comedy chemistry in this, bouncing off each other perfectly, which is naturally a good thing in an action comedy like this. Think Seth Rogen/James Franco’s unexpectedly great chemistry in Pineapple Express, and you’re on the right track.

We then got a brand new trailer for the film yesterday, and to follow it up, we’ve now got the film’s brilliant first poster to share with you, courtesy of their own Facebook page.

Co-written by Hill and Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World), the film has been helmed by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, best known for their previous work co-directing Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs, and if these trailers are anything to go by, they’re going to make a brilliant live-action feature debut together.

Tim Burton, beloved director of such dark and brilliant films as Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow, Sweeney Todd, and many more cult classics, is well known and noted for his unique oddness of vision that he brings to all his films.

So the news that he’s in early talks to come on board a novel entitled, Miss Peregrine’s Home For Curious Children, sounds like a match made in heaven.

Deadline report that after 20th Century Fox and Chernin Entertainment picked Ransom Riggs’ novel’s rights up last year, Burton is in talks with them to develop the project, with an eye to potentially direct it, and it will also be Burton tasked with finding the film’s writer.

The original novel focuses on Jacob,

“a 16-year-old whose childhood was filled with stories his grandfather told him about an orphanage for unusual children. Among the residents: a girl who could hold fire in her hands, another whose feet never touched the ground, and twins who communicated without speaking. When his beloved grandfather dies unexpectedly but leaves a message behind for his grandson, the teen heads off to his grandfather’s home on an isolated island off Wales. There he discovers the abandoned remains of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. It is in great disrepair and as Jacob explores its bedrooms and hallways, he can see the children were more than peculiar, they might have been there because they were dangerous. And he can’t shake the feeling they are still lurking around.”

Just reading that synopsis conjures up Burton-esque images in your mind, which is why it seems so apt that he’s in talks to develop the project, and I’m hoping that talks will go well. Whether Burton chooses to direct or not, it will be interesting to see who is cast as the young Jacob in such an eerie and mysterious tale. Though I’ve not read the novel, if Burton were to direct it, I hope that there’ll be a part in there for long-time friend and collaborator Johnny Depp, simply because they work so well together.

The pair have teamed up once more for Burton’s next film, Dark Shadows, which is due out in the UK on 11th May next year, a date to set down in your mental film release calendars, and Burton will be following that up with his stop-motion animated film, Frankenweenie, set to be released towards the end of next year. After that, his schedule is looking pretty light, so there could well be a place in it for Miss Peregrine’s Home For Curious Children. Only time will tell, and you can be sure we’ll bring you the news when it comes in.

Yesterday I put up our interview with Amber Heard for The Rum Diary and today we get to chat with the with captain of the ship, Director Bruce Robinson about his new movie, The Rum Diary. The film stars Johnny Depp, Amber Heard Giovanni Ribisi, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Rispoli Richard Jenkins and is based on the book by Hunter S. Thompson.

Robinson is best known for his movie, Withnail & I that he both wrote and directed and has become part of Britishness. In the interview, we not only talk about that but about how both he and Johnny remembered Hunter on set, the first and only time that he met Hunter, the challenges of transitioning a novel into a movie and finally, what you should do if you want to get into screen-writing.

Last week, I got to chat with the beautiful Amber Heard for her new movie, The Rum Diary. The film is based on the story written by Hunter S. Thompson, stars Johnny Depp, Giovanni Ribisi, Aaron Eckhart, Michael Rispoli Richard Jenkins and is directed by Bruce Robinson who wrote and Directed the fantastic British movie, Withnail & I.

In the interview, we chat about her familiarity with Hunter S. Thompson’s work, the how she managed to get the best sun-tan I’ve ever seen and driving both fast and very very slow cars! She also speaks about her experience working with Johnny Depp and Aaron Eckhart and mentions a new project that she’s currently Producing at the moment which unfortunately she wouldn’t reveal but told us to stay tuned.

The Rum Diary is released in UK cinemas tomorrow, 11th November and our interview with Director Bruce Robinson goes live tomorrow so keep your eyes peeled.

We got our first look at the upcoming remake of the ’80s TV series, 21 Jump Street, back in May this year, showing us Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum in their cop uniforms, with Jonah Hill looking a lot slimmer than we’re used to seeing him.

The film’s first red and green band trailers have now arrived, courtesy of Collider and ComingSoon.net respectively, and they give us a great idea of what to expect. Essentially, this should be a lot of fun.

The green band trailer’s pretty much the same, with one additional scene, minus all the swearing. So naturally, the red band trailer’s not suitable for work.

A little unexpectedly, Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs’ co-directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller are helming this remake, which Hill has co-written himself with Michael Bacall (Scott Pilgrim vs. the World).

The BBC have a series coming up which I have been excited about since I first heard about it a year or two ago. It’s called Life’s Too Short and sees Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant team together with Warwick Davis (who we interviewed last week here) for a new comedy show based around the man who’s been in Harry Potter, Star Wars, Leprechaun and who could forget Willow?!

In this new clip, we get to see Johnny Depp supposedly meeting Ricky Gervais for the first time since the Golden Globes which Gervais hosted and also in which Depp was the butt of the joke. Have a watch of this fantastic clip below as we think you may well like! Here’s an image from the Life’s Too Short microsite which also seems to suggest that Depp and Gervais put Davis in a toilet?!

Life’s Too Short comes to BBC 2 later this year. Other guet stars will be Sting, Liam Neeson, Helena Bonham Carter, Steve Carell, Cat Deeley, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Les Dennis, Keith Chegwin and Shaun Williamson who also starred in Extras.

Here’s another new poster for Martin Scorsese’s new movie, Hugo. I do like this poster but it has to be said that it looks just like the Robert Zemeckis movies, The Polar Express and A Christmas Carol but it’s quite possible the same designer was responsible for all three.

I’ve just done a bit of research and it would actually that BLT & Associates were responsible for creating both the Christmas Carol and Hugo posters while The Cimarron Group were responsible for The Polar Express poster. I guess it’s the trademark of a company to create similar looking posters but when I look at this new Hugo poster, I really do just see the Christmas Carol marketing campaign. Entertainment Films have sent us this new 90 second UK trailer for Martin Scorsese’s new movie, Hugo which is set for release 2nd December 2011. I’ve called it a trailer but it’s more of a featurette with Scorsese giving information on what the story is about throughout it but it’s a really nice way in which they’ve done it. In the past couple of weeks, we’ve had a few great pictures and a featurette for Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated next feature film, Hugo.

The film is set to be a slightly different affair to his last two films, The Departed and last year’s Shutter Island, with more of a family adventure film feel expected in Hugo.

A new international poster for the film has arisen over at FilmoFilia, giving us a look at Asa Butterfield (The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas) as the young lead, Hugo Cabret.

“Based on the best-selling children’s historical fiction book by author Brian Selznick, Hugo tells the story of an orphan boy Hugo Cabret (Asa Butterfield) living a secret life in the walls of a Paris train station. With the help of an eccentric girl, he searches for the answer to a mystery linking the father he recently lost, the ill-tempered toy shop owner living below him and a heart shaped lock, seemingly without a key.”

The film, written by the awesome John Logan (The Last Samurai, Gladiator), has an absolutely terrific cast alongside Butterfield, including Chloë Grace Mortez (Kick-Ass), Johnny Depp (Pirates of the Caribbean), Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes), Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings), Emily Mortimer (Shutter Island), Sacha Baron Cohen (Brüno), Sir Ben Kingsley (Shutter Island), and Ray Winstone (The Departed).

A rough translation of the French text on the poster, via Google Translate, reads, ‘Unravel the mystery on 14^th December,’ or (roughly) literally, ‘Discover the key to the mystery on 14^th December,’ which fits in with the imagery of the key we’ve seen on the first official poster that came out back in the summer alongside the trailer.

Luckily for us, we’ll be getting this a little earlier than France, with a UK release date scheduled for 2^nd December, just a month and a half away. We got our first photos from the set of Tim Burton’s next film, Dark Shadows, last month and they gave us a brief glimpse at Johnny Depp’s return to the gothic world of Burton’s mind as Barnabas Collins, an eighteenth century man-turned-vampire dug up in 1972.

The first official photos from the film have now surfaced over at Empire, and they give us an interesting look not just at Depp’s character, who in fact looks rather different from the set photos, but also show us the rest of the cast looking fantastic in their costumes too.

The film, based on the 1960s TV series of the same name, revolves around Depp’s character, Barnabas:

“In 1752, the Collins family sails from Liverpool, England to North America. The son, Barnabas, grows up to be a wealthy playboy in Collinsport, Maine and is the master of Collinwood Manor. He breaks the heart of a witch, Angelique Bouchard, who turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. In 1972, Barnabas is freed and returns to find his manor in ruin. It is occupied by dysfunctional descendants and other residents, all of whom have secrets.”

The script for Dark Shadows is written by Seth Grahame-Smith, author of Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, both of which are being adapted for the big screen. Grahame-Smith has said of the film’s setting in 1972,

“Tim and Johnny took a long time explaining exactly why it had to be 1972. 1969 was too early and 1973 was too late. 1972 is right at the time when the hippie movement and all its peace and love is dying out and being replaced by this  me-me-me generation in the ’70s who are all about showing their wealth and having everything.”

Definitely interesting stuff. Along with Depp, the terrific cast includes Eva Green, Christopher Lee, Jackie Earle Haley, Chloë Grace Moretz, Johnny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, a cameo from Alice Cooper, and of course, frequent collaborator of Burton and Depp’s, and Burton’s partner in real life, Helena Bonham Carter.

These fantastic new photos give us a look at the majority of this cast, and show Depp in the first photo looking a little different to how we first saw him in the set photos. His hair is looking particularly excellent in this, and with Depp having a way of bringing such different characters to life, I’m always eager to see what his next performance is going to be like. Dark Shadows is due to come out on 11^th May next year in the States, and we can hopefully look forward to a similar release date here in the UK. In the past month, ahead of its upcoming release, we’ve been seeing some fantastic things for the adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson’s The Rum Diary, written and directed by Bruce Robinson (Withnail & I), and led by the one and only Johnny Depp.

We got the absolutely terrific first trailer for the film at the end of last month, and have since had a first and second poster for the film, as well as a great TV spot.

We’ve now got a great third poster to share with you, courtesy of The Playlist. Admittedly, this new poster does give the film a bit of a The Hangover-esque look to it, which I think is a bit of a shame, because judging by the trailer, this is going to be a very different film, and I’m expecting it to be even better, if not a little too different to fairly compare.

Nonetheless, Depp looks like more than a bit of a mess, presumably waking up in a ransacked hotel room with the telephone receiver off the hook, room service on the floor, empty bottles of alcohol, bowling pins present, a goldfish with just enough water in its bowl to survive, and, directly in the middle of the poster to top it all off, a revolver.

Pretty awesome stuff. Welcome to Puerto Rico.

Back in August, we got the pretty unexpected news that there was suddenly a possibility that the high-budget, high-profile film adaptation of The Lone Ranger, helmed by Gore Verbinski and top-lined by Armie Hammer and none other than Johnny Depp, might be scrapped by Disney on account of its budget.

Rumours then began circulating that Disney were thinking of removing Verbinski from the equation and going ahead with the project with a new director, but at the start of the month, Depp did what I really think he deserves a fair bit of credit for. He stood by Verbinski, saying that he wouldn’t make the film without him in the director’s chair.

With that ultimatum in place, Disney really only had two options. Keep Verbinski and work on cutting the budget down to a figure they could accept, or scrap the project entirely. And, as you can imagine, they’ve made the right choice.

News now comes from Deadline that Disney have all but resolved their problems, with an official announcement saying so expected next week, and production for the movie will soon be back on track, with the studio eyeing January/February next year for the start of production.

The film was originally scheduled for a 21st December, 2012 release, at least in the States, and it’s not yet known whether or not the late start will affect that release date, so it’s possible we won’t be seeing the finished product until early 2013 at the earliest. However, given that The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey is coming out on 14th December next year, followed quickly by Brad Pitt’s World War Z and Judd Apatow’s This Is Forty on the 21st, and then Tarantino’s Django Unchained on 25th, in my eyes, it wouldn’t be the worst thing if the release date was pushed back until January 2013.

Disney clearly already has concerns about whether or not the film will find an audience, given its Western nature, following up from the not-so-solid performance of Cowboys & Aliens at this summer’s box office. So if a late production means a late release that would stop it from being up against some other incredibly big films, then so be it.

Either way, it’s terrific news that the project seems to have had its issues resolved in the past month and a half. A Jerry Bruckheimer-produced, Verbinski-directed, and Depp-starring film is a damn solid combination. And with production set to get underway early next year, it should only be a matter of months before we start seeing photos of Johnny Depp on the set as Tonto, The Lone Ranger’s sidekick.

Dark Shadows will see Johnny Depp joining up with director Tim Burton for the 784th time in their careers, collaborating once again for a project with dark, gothic tones.

Dark Shadows was a cult TV show that ran in the latter half of the 1960′s, containing such genre staples as vampires, zombies, witches, werewolves and ghosts. It is of course massively unsurprising to find Burton and Depp interested in this sort of thing.

Depp will play Barnabas Collins and shooting is underway as the snaps below amply testify. Dark Shadows will be released into the gloomy twilight in May next year, finding itself up against pretty much every superhero on the planet in the process. It will be interesting to see if it can hold its own. Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz and Gulliver McGrath are all on board as well.

Johnny Depp’s highly anticipated return to the work of Hunter S. Thompson is getting closer and closer, and its release is definitely something to look forward to.

Now comes another terrific poster, courtesy of IMP Awards, with Johnny Depp really looking the part on this one. Even the tagline on it, “Absolutely Nothing In Moderation,” is pretty fantastic, and I can’t wait for this to come out.

Along with Depp, we can look forward to seeing Amber Heard (Drive Angry), Aaron Eckhart (The Dark Knight), Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar), and Richard Jenkins (Let Me In), directed by Bruce Robinson, Oscar nominee for 1984’s The Killing Fields, from a script that he wrote based on Thompson’s novel of the same name.

“The Rum Diary tells the increasingly unhinged story of itinerant journalist Paul Kemp (Depp). Tired of the noise and madness of New York and the crushing conventions of late Eisenhower-era America, Kemp travels to the pristine island of Puerto Rico to write for a local San Juan newspaper run by the downtrodden editor Lotterman (Jenkins). Adopting the rum-soaked lifestyle of the late ’50s version of Hemingway’s “The Lost Generation,” Paul soon becomes entangled with a very attractive American woman, Chenault (Heard) and her fiancée Sanderson (Eckhart), a businessman involved in shady property development deals. It is within this world that Kemp ultimately discovers his true voice as a writer and integrity as a man.”

The few things that we’ve seen so far from the film couldn’t make me want to see it more, and with its 4th November release date fast coming up, we thankfully don’t have that much longer to wait. For now, here’s the great new poster to enjoy. Depp is the master at putting his own personal touch on all of his characters, and I can’t wait to see his performance in this.
