How do you make the prospect of an Oliver Stone movie even more anticipated than just having the director on board? Give it an incredible cast.

That’s exactly what’s happened with Stone’s upcoming film, Savages, which is due to be released in the autumn this year. Co-written by acclaimed best-selling crime novelist Don Winslow and Shane Salerno, adapting Winslow’s own novel, the film has a fantastic cast that includes Benicio del Toro, Blake Lively, Aaron Johnson, Taylor Kitsch, John Travlota, Uma Thurman, Emile Hirsch, Joel David Moore, and Salma Hayek.

The Playlist have got the first look at the film, and in just one still, you get a sense that this is going to be awesome.

“Blake Lively plays the gal pal of two Laguna Beach drug dealers (Aaron Johnson and Taylor Kitsch) who is kidnapped by a Mexican drug cartel who wants to move in on their turf. Del Toro plays the cartel enforcer with Uma Thurman as Lively’s Mom, Salma Hayek as the leader of the cartel, John Travolta as a burnt-out DEA agent, the recently Oscar-nominated Demian Bichir as a double-crossing attorney who represents Hayek’s cartel, Joel David Moore as a computer nerd and Emile Hirsch  in an unnamed role.”

In this first image, we see Lively after she’s been kidnapped, looking a little worse for wear, with del Toro clearly making her feel right at home, blowing smoke into her face.

There isn’t a person on this cast that I don’t love, and as you can imagine, I can’t wait for this to come out. The premise sounds brilliant, and you can’t go wrong with a director like Stone going behind the camera for this. The man has three Oscars to his name, as well as a further four nominations, and here’s to hoping that he’ll have another huge success on his hands towards the end of the year. Savages will be with us on 28^th September, which means we have another eight months of anticipation before we can see it on the big screen. I can’t wait. Amanda Seyfried has had a bit of a mixed bag with films this year, kicking things off in the spring with Red Riding Hood, which wasn’t brilliantly received, and ending on a much more positive note with Andrew Niccol’s brilliant In Time, which is out in cinemas now, and which I highly recommend you see sometime in the next few weeks.

The first trailer for her next film, Gone, has surfaced over at Yahoo Movies, which will give us another chance to see her in a leading role. And with any luck, this will hopefully be better received than Red Riding Hood was, because I think she is a great actress – which In Time, to give just the most recent example, shows – and deserves the rising recognition she’s been getting in recent years.

“Jill Parrish (Seyfried) comes home from a night shift to discover her sister Molly has been abducted. Jill, who had escaped from a kidnapper a year before, is convinced that the same serial killer has come back for her sister. Afraid that Molly will be dead by sundown, Jill embarks on a heart-pounding chase to find the killer, expose his secrets and save her sister.”

Along with Seyfried, the film also stars the excellent Wes Bentley (American Beauty), Jennifer Carpenter (TV’s Dexter), Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The First Avenger), Daniel Sunjata (TV’s Rescue Me), and Joel David Moore (Avatar). Allison Burnett, co-writer of the upcoming Underworld Awakening, has penned the script, which Heitor Dhalia has directed in what I believe is his English language debut.

Gone is set to come out here on 24th February next year, which means we’ve not gone long to wait until we can see it on the big screen. The trailer shows the film has some potential, and the great cast certainly lies in its favour, so let’s hope that it lives up to that potential and then some.

I have to admit I do love a good shark movie and ever since Deep Blue Sea and Piranha 3D, have been looking to my next fix of ridiculous fish-chasing antics! The latest comes in the form of Shark Night 3D which we’ve had a trailer for here. This movie looks perfect for me as it seems to be a mix between the two movies I just mentioned above! Relativity Media have released this new images from the movie which give us a little taster of what we can expect – lots of screaming me thinks!

But when star football player Malik (Walls) stumbles from the salt-water lake with his arm torn off, the party mood quickly evaporates. Assuming the injury was caused by a freak wake-boarding accident, the group realizes they have to get Malik to a hospital on the other side of the lake, and fast. But as they set out in a tiny speedboat, the college friends discover the lake has been stocked with hundreds of massive, flesh-eating sharks! As they face one grisly death after another, Sara and the others struggle desperately to fend off the sharks, get help and stay alive long enough to reach the safety of dry land.

Shark Night 3D will chomp its way into US cinemas on September 14 and in the UK two weeks later on 30th September.

A weekend at a lake house in the Louisiana Gulf turns into a nightmare for seven vacationers as they are subjected to fresh-water shark attacks.

Shark Night 3D is scheduled to hit US cinemas on September 14th. It is, however, currently without a UK release date.

Not only did Adam Green bring the world premiere of Hatchet II to Frightfest, he and Joe Lynch also announced the news that they had secretly been working on a new film and that it was almost finished.

The film is a horror anthology entitled Chillerama and centres on a Drive-In theatre that is closing down. The owner of the Drive-In, Cecil Kaufman, decides to show a selection of the “most f****d up movies” on the final night. This linking device pulls together the four short films (possibly around twenty minutes each) which are directed by Adam Green, Joe Lynch, Adam Rifkin and Tim Sullivan.

Green and Lynch also stated that they are planning on touring the film and recreating the Drive-In experience which sounds wonderful. Let’s hope they find a way to do it in the UK too.

The Diary of Anne Frankenstein (Adam Green) – Hitler (Joel David Moore) creates a Jewish Frankenstein monster (Kane Hodder)

Zombie Movie (Joe Lynch) – A throwback to 70s/80s zombie movies Joe Lynch provided the tagline “When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will f**k the earth.”

Wadzilla (Adam Rifkin) – In Wadzilla there is a “Giant sperm trying to inseminate the Statue of Liberty”.

The Curse of the Werebears (Tim Sullivan) – Not bears in the grizzly sense. Bears as in the ‘bear community’.

During Frightfest Adam Green showed his section of the anthology. Here’s a brief review of the film. (Contains what could be described as spoilers although I don’t give away the whole plot or the best gags).

(Bear in mind that the film we were shown was not the finished product but looked very close to it.)

In The Diary of Anne Frankenstein Hitler (Joel David Moore) creates a Frankenstein like Jewish monster (played by Kane Hodder) with a very funny name. The film is all in black and white, in German and with artificial scratches, film damage and messy reel changes. The sets are also very cheap looking and are obviously sets, adding to the vibe of the film as a lost exploitation picture. The Diary of Anne Frankenstein is a comedy so don’t expect anything like Frozen here but watching the film I was struck by how good Green is at comedy, really good. The film is hilarious. The Frightfest audience appeared to also absolute love the film judging by the laughter and applause. Probably one of the funniest parts of the film is the fact that despite the film being in German Joel David Moore is clearly not speaking German and what he’s saying has no relation to the subtitles ‘translating’ his dialogue. The Diary of Anne Frankenstein is absolutely fantastic and incredibly funny. I can’t wait to see it again and am really looking forward to checking out the anthology when it is released next year.

I know the past 24 hours have been Avatar-tastic but I am finding it hard to contain my excitement about the James Cameron 3d epic! AVATAR takes us to a spectacular world beyond imagination, where a reluctant hero embarks on an epic adventure, ultimately fighting to save the alien world he has learned to call home.   James Cameron, the Oscar-winning director of “Titanic,” first conceived the film 15 years ago, when the means to realize his vision did not exist yet. Now, after four years of production, AVATAR, a  live action film with a new generation of special effects, delivers a fully immersive cinematic experience of a new kind, where the revolutionary technology invented to make the film disappears into the emotion of the characters and the sweep of the story.

We enter the alien world through the eyes of Jake Sully, a former Marine confined to a wheelchair.  Despite his broken body, Jake is still a warrior at heart.   He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where corporations are mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving  Earth’s energy crisis.  Because the atmosphere of Pandora is toxic, they have created the Avatar Program, in which human “drivers” have their consciousness linked to an avatar, a remotely-controlled biological body that can survive in the lethal air.   These avatars are genetically engineered hybrids of human DNA mixed with DNA from the natives of Pandora”¦ the Na’vi.

Reborn in his avatar form, Jake can walk again.  He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na’vi who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore.  But a beautiful Na’vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake’s life, and this changes everything.  Jake is taken in by her clan and learns to become one of them, which involves many tests and adventures.  As Jake’s relationship with his reluctant teacher Neytiri deepens, he learns to respect the Na’vi way and finally takes his place among them.  Soon he will face the ultimate test as he leads them in an epic battle that will decide nothing less than the fate of an entire world.

It’s the one we’ve all been waiting for. The new international trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar has been released (well, the bootleg anyway) and it looks fantastic. This 3.5 minute trailer focuses much more on the people in the movie rather than the special effects although there are so many special effects that they’re probably in every scene shot anyway. I love the music which overlays with opening sequence and I hope that they use that style of score in the final movie itself.

The official HD domestic trailer is officially released later on today but for the time being, here’s the international version which hit the web whilst we were fast asleep last night. Enjoy!

Earlier this week we reported that James Cameron and the men who make the decisions at 20th Century Fox have decided to bring out a 3.5 minute trailer today in cinemas. I’ve tried to find out which film this trailer will be attached to but as yetI’ve not managed to succeed. I won’t give up yet though Avatar fans!
